Common magical items for non-adventurers
I was thinking earlier today that in a world with magical items, it seemed odd that EVERY magical item was somehow useful for adventurers, but not necessarily for normal people. So I had ChatGPT create a short list of seven common magical items for everyday people in a D&D campaign. Here's what it came up with:
Common magical items for common people Chorekeeper's Broom
Wondrous item, common
This ordinary-looking broom is imbued with a minor enchantment. When commanded with a simple phrase, it will sweep and clean the floors of a room on its own, following a set pattern. The broom is unable to perform any other tasks and cannot be used effectively as a weapon or tool in combat.
Everfresh Lunchbox
Wondrous item, common
This small, wooden lunchbox is adorned with tiny engravings of fruits and vegetables. When food is placed inside and the lid is closed, the food will remain fresh and warm (or cold, depending on the user's preference) for up to 24 hours. The lunchbox cannot hold more than a single meal and has no effect on potions or other magical consumables.
Quill of Quickscribing
Wondrous item, common
This elegant quill pen never runs out of ink and can write or draw at twice the speed of a normal quill when used for mundane tasks such as letter writing or record-keeping. The quill cannot be used to scribe scrolls or copy spells, nor can it be used as an improvised weapon.
Gardener's Green Gloves
Wondrous item, common
These soft, green gloves are perfect for anyone with a green thumb. When worn, they enhance the wearer's gardening skills, allowing them to plant, prune, and care for plants more efficiently. The gloves provide no combat benefits or bonuses to ability checks or saving throws related to adventuring tasks.
Coin Counter's Pouch
Wondrous item, common
This simple leather pouch has the ability to magically count and sort coins placed inside it. When the user reaches into the pouch and thinks of a specific type of coin, they can withdraw the exact amount they desire without having to search or count manually. The pouch cannot hold any other items and does not provide any bonuses to finding treasure or bartering.
Tailor's Swift Needle
Wondrous item, common
This enchanted needle allows the user to mend and sew clothing or fabrics at an accelerated rate. The needle requires thread to function but never becomes dull or breaks. It cannot be used to repair magical items, mend wounds, or be used as a weapon.
Instant Barista Mug
Wondrous item, common
This plain-looking ceramic mug has a small enchantment that, once per day, allows the user to fill it with their choice of coffee or tea, magically appearing at the perfect temperature for consumption. The mug cannot produce any other beverages or provide any benefits beyond its ability to create a soothing, warm drink.
I'm particularly fond of the mug and the coinpouch. I can see why someone would buy those as luxury magic items.
