Characters get captured, and the round is nothing but round after round of the iterated prisoner's dilemma. No interactions, and nothing to roleplay but the tedium of the jail cell, the precise way the characters are betraying each other to their captors and stewing about being betrayed.

Just marinate in that for a week to get everything tender and tasty for the barbecue of the pvp battle royale the final round.

Oztk said it best: "meta-strategy talk/navel-gazing!"
  1. From the get-go, I was intending to play Vash as a loner type of person.
    • In the 1st round, the Druid yelled at him a couple of times for not working as a team. I used that in the second round to adhere to teamwork, though from a perspective of one who never had friends. I think I explained his actions satisfactory using his 'Thoughts'.

  2. After losing control of the water elemental in Though when I rolled for the save I was not informed it was a Concentration check at the time. If I had been I might have remembered Vash has Advantage on Concentration checks and we could have avoided that episode entirely! round 1 I was hesitant to use another in round 2.
    • This was a mistake on my part. I do wonder how much destruction an earth elemental could have done in 'the Crowd' room if I had Vash tell the elemental to "Knock it down!" on the very first round? Since it could move through earth and stone and does more damage to structures than anything else.

  3. When GleefulNihilism's character Bryn sacrificed his first action to try & discuss a way to get each room to fight each other I gave him some RPXP even though my character was dismissive of the suggestion.
    • In a standard game, I could see this being talked out but with the limit of posting 1/day with an edit window of 1 hour, it was not feasible.
    • Good try though GleefulNihilism. Good try.

  4. Though Vash did follow Oztk's character, Berthe into 'the Big Boys' room, my first idea was to split up and go into 'the Unexpected' room. After all, what could 3 goblins do to Vash? Man am I glad we waited until after we cleaned out 'the Big Boys' room to try that! Yesh!
    • In Vash's opinion, dealing with the Nilbog things was way worse than working as a team with a bunch of do-gooders!
    • Note: Until Round 2 of Outplay, I have never ever even heard of a Nilbog before! They came as a total surprise to Vash and to me!

  5. Looking forward to round 3 even if I get kicked to the wayside

I actually like bards. I just enjoy the reaction that comes from saying “bards suck”

I think the thought that “bards suck” came from AKA 1EAD&D, where they really did suck, You needed to have significant levels of 3 different classes to qualify, and even then it sucked,

The Scoreboard has been updated.

It now reflects the mechanical kill points from Round 2, but it contains NO judge discretionary points. It will probably take until Friday, give or take, to get those up and extend our invitations to continue on to Round 3.

Good... I don't.

Conceptually the class just... bothers me.

I think in the same way monks bother other people, there's just something jarring about them.

I suppose it depends on your type of a "fantasy" world. My go-to is Conan the Barbarian, the Broken empire, The First Law... I'm a dark low-fantasy man and there's something distasteful to me about colourfully-clad musicians who make magic out of songs.

Mechanically I have no issue with them.

I personally don’t play musical bards... Not sure if the 5E mechanics are the same, but in PF you can use several things other than instruments or signing. I usually go with Oratory and Comedy...

It is less of a stretch to me when I say “words have power” vs making you more accurate because I am singing you a ditty.

@zinrokh: wish your polymorph had worked, just to see what the DM would have done when you tried to take them out of the room, as I wanted to do that at the end for entirely different training. Was the idea with hiding that next turn would be polymorph and out, whereas if you polymorph one the first turn the other two are going to get you?

And love hard mechanics, but have always multiclassed and refluffed them; should play a pure one some day. And can someone explain where the "lol, bards just seduce everything" meme came from?

Silk: yeah, a longer character that doesn't interact with anyone seems non-fun and not something that should be rewarded. A longer character that would rather work alone but has to put up with these incompetent fools - that's got legs

And investing in elemental gems but not using them in the combat round! Psyliana cleaned up with hers (and fireball), but then bladesingers have some sick CON saves. My money would have been on the DMs disallowing the "tear the whole building down" line, but what do I know.

If a polymorphed creature would have entered the null-magic room, it would have reverted to it's true form.

That would have been unfortunate for all in the room, who would have to take on a dragon without the benefit of magic.

And in a space where players were explicitly disallowed to participate in combat.

Without combat or magic, you'd better have a bard because seduction is the only remaining option...
