Okay, I think that almost all works. I am not fond of having a defensive power( reflection) in a multipower, but I don't know how else to get it. So I see this as an attack hitting Void and then a portal opening up and sending the attack back at who launched it. Can I take a half move and hold the rest of my action to use a reflection, assuming I put the multipower points in that slot?

I would like to take the no range limitation off of the killing attack. If I need another point to make up for that I can make my Con 27. If I need two points I could just be +4 with the Reflection instead of +5

Okay, dropping no range only added one point and you were actually one point under, so all good with no other changes!

Now, you are absolutely right that I would NOT let a defensive power into the attack multipower, hower Reflection is actually classified in the rules as an attack power. The way it would work would be you would make an attack roll to Block an incoming attack, and then if that roll succeeds, you would make another attack roll to aim the Reflection at your chosen target. Your levels with Block to not apply to the second, Reflection roll, and you would need to have the multipower slot active before your Block action in order to use it to Reflect, since the Reflection itself takes no time as an action.

I think we are all set to go. I was mistakenly thinking of reflection as a defense power. Thanks for clearing that up. I guess I am wondering if I can do part of a turn and then hold the rest. Say Void thinks someone is going to be targeted by a ranged attack, so he sets the multipower slot to reflection and then takes a half move to get between the attacker and that person. Can he then wait to block the incoming attack when it is launched or does he need to take his full turn at one time?

I am looking forward to getting started. Thanks for your patience.

Yeah, it is an interesting sequence of mechanics: 1) Reflection itself takes no time and is an optional add on whenever your character successfully completes a Block maneuver against a ranged attack. 2) The Block Maneuver itself is a Defensive Maneuver and can be 'canceled to', meaning you can block even when it's not your turn, by giving up your next action to go out of order. 3) HOWEVER, because Reflection is in your Multi-Power, it must be the active slot in order to be used.

Examples:

1) You CAN do a half phase half move action and THEN switch your slot to Reflection and do a Block and a follow-up Reflection all in a single phase. You can definitely do a half move and HOLD your remaining half phase just in case you end up blocking an attack.

2) You CAN cancel your next phase action to Block an attack AND Reflect the attack AS LONG AS the Reflection slot is ALREADY ACTIVE.

3) You CANNOT end a phase by attacking with a different attack slot, then cancel a future phase to Block an attack when it's not your Phase, and THEN use Reflection, only because of your Multi-Power slot still being in the last attack power that you used.

So in short, the main limitations on your use of Reflection are: 1) You have to block an attack before you can reflect it (and you, therefore, can't reflect any powers that you can't block, like area effect or indirect or mental attacks, for example); 2) Reflection only works for ranged attacks that you block, not for melee or no range powers that you block; 3) If you use another attack power in a given phase, you won't be able to reflect anything until your next phase action even if you cancel to a block action before that.

I hope all of that helps?

My pleasure! I am eager to get you in to play as well! Thank YOU for your patience in my process for character review; I am happy and committed to being on the same page with how your character works and us being happy with that before beginning play as much as possible. I'm sure there will still be some surprises in play, that's part of the fun!

I thought I posted this question already, but it looks like it didn't post. Do you have an idea of when you might be able to work me in to the game?

I looked at the full write up for Void and Chloe and everything looks great. I should have mentioned that already as well.

Do we have to have three levels in Striking Appearance? I kind of like the idea of a average looking character.

Well, yes, sorry it is a distinctive trait in this game of superheroes (or fully superpowered people anyway). I have had other players who had concepts that did not entirely mesh with being stunningly attractive, and we have worked the multiform or shape change angle to accommodate, but their base form was still a stunningly attractive one with three levels of striking appearance.

Are mental powers OK? Some GMs don't like things like telepathy or mind control ruining their surprises?

Thanks for asking!

I am open to player characters with mental powers! I don’t tend to do intricate mystery or puzzle plots anyway, and the rules tend to insure that people will know or find out when you use mental powers on them, so it’s important—as with all powers and characters—to be sure to tell me your expectations for the character,so we are on the same page. That’s all I require.

From a question in PM, I thought this was useful information:

There’s two ways to answer that, so let me put the timeline out there: all supers’ common origin requires that they were conceived in NYC after the 9-11-2001 inter dimensional invasion of Manhattan. They develop powers no younger than at 13. The first public super was in 2017.

So, your character could in theory have been born as early as 2002 and have developed powers as early as 2014 at 13, but would have had to have kept them secret for at least 3 more years . Does that help?

Echo
left-aligned image
Background: Michael O'Brien was born and raised in Manhattan, the oldest son of Big Mike, the notorious boss of the Irish mob. Growing up he always thought that his dad just owned a bar. His happiest memories of his childhood were going to his dad's bar with Uncle Donovan or some of "the guys." Little Mike would get his root beer and sit at the bar pretending to be one of the adults. When he'd try to hunch over his drink like Donnie or scowl like Old Pete, everyone would think it was hilarious.

When Mike was in his teens, he slowly came to understand what his father really did for a living. Knowing that his dad's bar was the center of a criminal operation didn't sit well with Mike. The realization that his dad's associates were drug dealers and killers was even more of a blow. Little Mike reacted to this by throwing himself into his sports with even greater intensity than before. He was barely ever home, spending all of his time practicing his Jeet Kune Do or whatever sport was being played at the time.

Just over a year ago, when Mike was 15, he would get a bluish haze around him during times of stress or intense physical activity. It was barely noticeable at first and if someone saw it (back then) they would have dismissed the phenomenon as a trick of the light or something similar. At the same time, Mike's physical development went into overdrive. It was like he went through a second puberty. He started to mature more rapidly than other boys his age and his Jeet Kune Do instructor noticed that he was progressing in leaps and bounds.

Within the past couple months, "the glow" has shaped itself into what almost looks like a ghostly, bluish version of Mike and when he is fighting... it fights too! All of this was too much to deal with for the teenager. After a spat with his parents,he went to live with his uncle. Mike's parents agreed, knowing that Donovan would keep an eye out for the boy. Mike's JKD instructor and uncle have both seen his aura manifest itself, In fact, it was his instructor who called it an echo, unintentionally giving Mike his superhero name.

Personality: Around his uncle, his martial arts instructor, or friends Mike is typically funny and light-hearted. When he is around his immediate family though, he is dour and uncommunicative; a typical surly teen. In most social situations he tends to hang back, reacting to what others do instead of initiating conversation or taking charge. When he is Echo, he is brash and headstrong. Something about being out there, fighting for what is right, fills him with exuberence. That, combined with his youthful overconfidence, often has him rushing into trouble head first.

Description: Mike is a handsome guy with blond hair and blue eyes. He stands about six feet tall and has a confident, charming smile. Unless he is at a formal occasion, he wears comfortable, loose-fitting pants with a t-shirt, light jacket, and ball cap. Whatever he is wearing, it is obvious that he is in peak physical condition. His body looks like that of an athlete ten years older than Mike's meager 17 years.

I don't know this game system at all, but I am really into the intro concept. You've made a bold choice, and I love the anti-technology aspect, it makes me hungry to learn more.

The first character idea that comes to mind is someone who's been living off the grid for a while, proficient in all the outdoor skills, who just KNEW some day technology would fail, and his time learning ancient warfare would come to use, seeing this news as his true calling. He'd be a mix of Logan/Wolverine, a little bit Dale Gribble, but with knowledge and focus comparable to Dr. Strange, studying all the ancient faiths and occult traditions he can as he trains in the woods. Idk if anyone else has made a character like that yet, there are a lot of pages here to skim through
