[5e] Grippli as Playable Race
GRIPPLI BACKGROUND
rippli, also known as the frog folk, are a race of amphibian humanoids who resemble tree frogs. They are a peaceful and reclusive race who prefer the company of others of their kind in the swamplands and rainforests they tend to settle in. They prefer to spend their days playing among the trees, collecting fruit, and hunting insects with their kinfolk. As many a potential foe has learned, however, they are skilled warriors in their own right when in defense of their land. They can be somewhat skittish around unfamiliar faces at times, but are typically happy and enjoy the simple pleasures in life. A grippli often only has a single name for themselves in their tongue which has some kind of meaning associated with it, usually some important event in their childhood before reaching maturity.
Most grippli tend to live in small villages comprised largely of a handful of families, overlooked by an elder priestess whom they refer to as the Tribe Mother. Their families tend to be small, as female grippli are often fertile only about every 25 years or so. The Tribe Mother is the ultimate authority in their small village, as the grippli believe her position is a divinely granted one and few disobey her wishes. The Tribe Mother, however, rarely needs to engage in decision making for the village as most of the time the families are independently run by the elder male hunters.
Grippli villages tend to have little value to any potential raiders. The frog folk typically are not highly skilled in the arts and their tools, weapons, and trinkets are often made out of wood, vine, or stone. Metal weapons are considered highly valuable and are often passed down through the generations as a family heirloom, often with an important sounding name attached to them. In their villages they often prefer just a simple loincloth as clothing but civilized grippli tend to dress in bright colors and with almost a gaudy sense of style. They love colored glass and shiny trinkets, often considering them more valuable than coin itself at times. Some grippli become talented at making potions or herbal tinctures using the natural resources of the wilds which makes them valuable among the others in their village.
Grippli religion is based on the faith in a nameless frog-like goddess, often depicted in sculptures as a bulging frog with rainbow colored skin. They rarely engage in any sort of formal rituals or rites for her, but merely see her as the creator of the grippli and thus worthy of their awe and reverence. Being that the actual history of the grippli itself is unknown, it is possible this deity could be their creator.
GRIPPLI AS A PLAYABLE RACE FOR D&D 5TH EDITION
Ability Score Increase.
Your Dexterity increases by 2, and your Wisdom increases by 1.
(Potential for sub races in the future which could alter this and other traits mentioned below.)
Age:
Grippli are typically born as young tadpoles and spend the first few years of their life underwater. As they mature, they slowly become amphibious, grow limbs, and their tail falls off. The average grippli reaches full maturity at age 25, which coincides with the first fertility cycle of the average female grippli. Most grippli tend to live long peaceful lives, with 180 years being common.
Alignment:
Grippli tend to be neutral, as often they have little regard for what occurs outside their home lands. Being peaceful and care free, they are quite often good - an evil grippli is rare indeed and most likely an outcast of his or her village.
Size:
The average grippli is about two feet tall, and they weigh anywhere from 25-30 pounds.
Speed:
Their base walking speed is 25 feet.
Darkvision:
Gripplis possess darkvision with a range of 60 feet. When using darkvision, they cannot distinguish colors and only see in shades of grey.
Impressive Jumpers:
Grippli have strong legs and often develop their leaping ability from hopping from tree to tree collecting fruits every day. When making a long or high jump from a standing position, grippli treat the action as if they had taken a running start of 10 feet or more (as per the rules for Jumping under Movement). If a grippli moves at least 10 feet on foot immediately before he does a long jump, he can jump the distance equal to double his current Strength score (the average race can only jump equal to their Strength score). If a grippli moves at least 10 feet on foot immediately before he does a high jump, he leaps into the air a number of feet equal to 6 + his Strength modifier (the average race can only jump 3 + their Strength modifier).
Natural Athletes:
Grippli gain proficiency in the Athletics skill as a natural ability.
Prehensile Tongue:
A grippli's tongue is long and dexterous, able to manipulate objects as if the grippli were using the spell
mage hand.
However, the range of the grippli's tongue is limited to 10 feet and can go no further unless the grippli himself moves. All the usual rules and limitations of the spell
mage hand
otherwise apply.
Toxic Resistance:
Grippli have advantage on savings throws against poisons, and have poison resistance.

GRIPPLI AS A PLAYABLE RACE FOR D&D 5TH EDITION
Ability Score Increase.
Your Dexterity increases by 2, and your Wisdom increases by 1.

In keeping with 3rd edition stats, I'd go +2DEX [which is common to all Frogkin] & choice of +1 WIS or +1 CHA. THere should be no sub-races as they are a sub-race of Frogkin (Bullywug, Grippli and Mogogol. The new Grung is probably also included here]
Age:
Grippli are typically born as young tadpoles and spend the first few years of their life underwater. As they mature, they slowly become amphibious, grow limbs, and their tail falls off. The average grippli reaches full maturity at age 25, which coincides with the first fertility cycle of the average female grippli. Gary Gygax had them living up to 700 with few offsprings.

Should have a climb speed.
Darkvision:
Gripplis possess darkvision with a range of 60 feet. When using darkvision, they cannot distinguish colors and only see in shades of grey.
Impressive Jumpers:
Grippli have strong legs and often develop their leaping ability from hopping from tree to tree collecting fruits every day. In keeping w/the 5e Bullywug and Grung should probably read.
Standing Leap.
Your base jump is 25 ft. long jump and 15 high jump, with or without a running start.
Natural Athletes:
Grippli gain proficiency in the Athletics skill as a natural ability.
I'd replace w/Climb Speed 30
Prehensile Tongue:
A grippli's tongue is long and dexterous, able to manipulate objects as if the grippli were using the spell
mage hand.
However, the range of the grippli's tongue is limited to 10 feet and can go no further unless the grippli himself moves. All the usual rules and limitations of the spell
mage hand
otherwise apply.
Mogogols are the Frogkin with prehensile tongues. Neither 1st nor 3rd edition had them using thier tongues.
Toxic Resistance:
Grippli have advantage on savings throws against poisons, and have poison resistance.
Grung are the frogkin with poisonous skins and poison immunity- neither 1st nor 3rd edition gave them any resistence to poison.
I'd add
Grippli Weapon Training.
You are proficient with blowguns and nets.
