Western Australia is pretty British sounding (which is funny, since it's basically the Australian equivalent of Texas (Americans call them rednecks, we call them bogans), but with more mining and less racism... Except now that I think about it, 'bogan' was probably originally a racist slur.... -_-'

The south Eastern quarter of Australia is the more cosmopolitan part, with higher population density, but because that's where a lot of the immigrants end up, you get less English sounding accents.

Although for my part, I've lived in this country all my life (in Canberra which is the Australian equivalent of Washington dc), and whenever I try to use Australian slang (which has to be said in an Australian accent), people laugh at me...

My understanding is, material components are only consumed if the spell text says they're consumed (which Chromatic Orb doesn't). See item 4 of the FAQ here, and PHB p. 203. That's subject to GM approval, of course. I specifically asked Sav about the diamond, and his answer was along the lines of "you don't currently have one, but all will be revealed".

What about this piece of glass won't that do?"

Also I'm showing my preconceptions in calling Sav (and probably everyone else) a "he"; my apologies if I'm being presumptuous in any given case, and please correct me if I say it incorrectly. If I'm reading character sheets correctly, GriffinSong, at least, is "she"?

Chromatic orb, as Wyn has said, does not consume the diamond. You simply need a 100+gp diamond to "filter" the power through.

And, yes, I'm a she.

Speaking of English, it needs a better gender neutral pronoun than "they".

Absolutely!!! I have a trans relative and they go by they. I'm getting used to it, but there are times when this old brain struggles with the thought that "they" ought to be plural. I created a warforged once who went by gender neutral "they" to help me get the hang of it. Alas that game didn't really get off the ground. We had one game and that was it so far. The GM is up in Maryland, so perhaps we'll pick it up again when I return home.

The amount of dialects in the tiny islands of Britain and Ireland are pretty crazy. So what other nations believe to be sounding British is actually received pronunciation or cockney, the two most commonly shown in films. I lived in Switzerland for a bit (even smaller than the UK) and people from different counties/tiny states cannot even understand each other speaker the national Swiss German it is that different.

You're right Code H hard to play gender neutral aliens/insects/etc just using they, without referring to other people in the process. "Thingy" could work instead of they. Though it sounds more like you've forgotten their name than anything else.

Sorry for being away for the weekend. Trying to settle the newest family member into my house. She's a sweetie born on the 26th and I think I've almost got the house organized enough that I can get back to being focused on the game as well.

Also, since I caught up on the thread, I'm Canadian and just across the border from Alaska. ^_^ Thankfully far enough away from Ontario and the Maritimes to not have that accent.

Anywho off to see if I can't finish off my character before the baby wakes up.

Edit: Welcome to our last members!

Congratulations on your new family member. I do hope you bring them up right, by playing D&D with them right from the start!

Congratulations QuilledNinja! Good to see you have got their starting equipment all ready but don't forget their to assign magical items; wrap of noxious production, stones of voice projection, cage of infuriation, and ring of sky illusions.

Thank you! ^_^ My 3 year old son does have his own set of dice and occasionally would roll for me during our game night. (At least until bed time.)

Anywho, I think my character sheet is done and the stats block updated on the character thread. I am working on cleaning up some of the background-ish stuff for Kharis right now and had a question or two... Since the dragons are in their eggs and in essence being tended/ raised by our characters prior to birth, how ingrained are the principles behind each of the dragon types? I mean our dragons would have at least a notion of the world before birth through us and how we think and less interaction with their own kind so it might stand to reason that a gold dragon might not be as high and noble as it could be if tended by someone with malice in their heart. Or does their nature override the influence of others? And yes, I know that probably has something to do with our Honour and Sanity stats but I thought I would ask anyway. ^_^

Also, do you mind if I flesh out a bit of the Overseeer/conditions/pit part of what Kharis has been doing?

Edit: Thanks Vallesh, though she has the "Charm Parent" spell running and I can't get too far away from her.

Edit*2: In the Martial Arts entry it states that I can make an extra attack using my bonus action when I attack with unarmed or monk weapons but I can only use my unarmed to strike with for the second attack. Flurry of blows is the same way and yet it also states that I can use my Martial Arts unarmed damage in place of monk weapon damage. So why can I not interchange the bonus attack with my monk weapons if it fits thematically with the moment? The damage is going to be the same 9/10 times. (the only difference is if I switch to the quarterstaff before level 5 to attack with. Unlikely as Kharis will be favouring her punching daggers) This is also going to be an issue later thematically as the unarmed damage becomes far superior to that of the weapons. Thoughts?

As a monk you can scale your weapon damage with you martial arts damage so when you get to level 5 you daggers can also do d6 damage, or at 11 do d8. This is not just for your bonus unarmed attack but for all attacks with monk weapons. It essentially means you become more skillful using your monk weapons so can do more harm with them using martial arts. Its mainly due to the type of damage you do an resistance to it that stops using either bludgeoning, fists, or daggers, piercing.

Quote:
You can roll a d4 in place of the normal damage of your unarmed strike or Your daggersmonk weapon. This die changes as you gain monk levels, as shown in the Martial Arts column of the Monk table.

My problem with the singular 'they', is that being from a farm, I've always used 'they' for animals I don't know the gender of. So I always feel uncomfortable using it for people.

Hey Vallesh, I have an uncle from Switzerland. Don't forget that Switzerland also has parts that are French and German.

And hey QuilledNinja, I'm not far from you, just south in Alberta.

Humans, animals we're all the same.

Switzerland actually has 4 national languages; German (High German & Swiss German), French, Italian and Romansh. Plus even if they say they don't speak English most do pretty well. Nearly everyone I met there was at least bilingual.

Savoylen is my adapted character background ok?
