Toba's Wayside Inn
I enjoy banter, pictures, and randomness in general, so feel free to post whatever you like in here. Cheers, ~Toba

No no Irish, go ahead and post some LOL Cats.
I mean, I'm sure you'd love to roll a new character after your's is struck by a brick truck being pushed by a comet.

Funny enough, that wouldn't be the first time...
Where can I get my hands on a set of glowing dice?

Sev's tweaking is taking a bit longer than I hoped. I'll be out all day tomorrow as well. So hopefully I'll have him finished sometime saturday. I'll poset him none the less so you can see him.

So, I've got limited interweb access, and short battery life, on set today. I'll see what I can get done with the tools on hand.

No rush Irish. I have to wait on a couple of the Outplayers to finish before this game can kick off anyway.

Hiya there. I know I wasn't in outplay, mostly because I had some family business to take care of at the time which prevented me from meeting deadlines, but I am now going to need to remake my character from the bottom up with the no gestalt rules in place. As such, I am wondering if other parts of the Unearthed Arcana book are allowed, specifically the section on variant magics. I have a character idea going around in my head that features a grey elf wizard who walks in on a secret magic ritual conducted by high mages of the seven circles that rebounds on him when he get blasted by stray magical energy, and wasn't a powerful enough Mage to control the rampant energy, forever changing the way he could work magic. He basically uses a combo of the Recharge and Magic point system. As you can tell, I like arcane magic, but hate the van in system, and found the best alternative in a combination of the two alternate systems. Thoughts?

Whew. Uh, you're going to have to give me a bit to read through all that. I generally lean towards disliking anything from Unearthed Arcana. BUT. I'm trying to accommodate everyone's ideas. I'll read on it and let you know. Also, the story would have to be a bit more convincing than "walks in on a secret magic ritual." Spice that up a bit, and I'm likely to be more lenient.

Ok Jim, did some reading on all that mumbo jumbo you mentioned. lol.
I'm going to have to go with my gut and decline that one. I can see the angle you were working towards, but it was a compromise of too many rules for me to want to deal with in a game where I'm already trying to accommodate as much player input as I can handle. So my apologies, but I'm going to try and not leaving you hanging at a dead end. I thought of a few other suggestions you may like based upon this system: 1) Have you ever played a Binder (Tome of Magic)? While you wouldn't necessarily have the variety of spells as you would in the system you mentioned, you do have a few reusable abilities that recycle as a general rule every 5 rounds, but many are at will. Also, you can change out which sets of abilities you have on a daily basis. Also, there are tons of options for customization with each exchange of ability sets with Pact Augmentation. On top of all this, they offer amazing RP opportunities with the failed binding checks lol. 2) Another class that has magical abilities built in on a recycling system is any of the Martial Adepts from Tome of Battle. Each of the 3 classes there have unique maneuvers that are refreshed each encounter. 3) Keep throwing me other ideas you might have. In most cases I am very open, though it looks as though I've left the impression that I am not lol. (Just really not a fan of Unearthed Arcanna, where flaws, traits, and variants all come from). Hope that helps. Cheers, ~Toba

Would the arcane sword sage work then?

Wow, I had to dig to find that one. And I am intrigued. Give me a bit to think about it. If I did it, it would have spell school restrictions.

Ok Jim. I'll roll with that. But here's the conditions:
We'll work with that for now.

Works fine for me. I was thinking of going an arcane swordsage/warblade, then possibly a few levels in Jade Phoenix Mage if the arcane sword sage's counts as 'arcane casting'.
