Dwarves of the Drachenklaue

A Brief History of Dwarves
The dwarves of the Drachen Klaue mountains trace their history back to the original inhabitants of Aldan. Before the coming of men and elves to the peninsula, and long before the rise of the Empire, the Dwarves ruled here. Back then, in the time before humans have records, the Dwarven kingdom of Bomferro was a sea-going culture with an expansionist appetite. They sailed across the Korralen Meer and colonised the Southern Continent. In doing so they found the nascent civilisations of Humans and Elves and took them as slaves, carrying them home across the sea to work in their great foundries and mines. Some of the dwarves stayed in the Southern Continent, originally to oversee the expansion and control of lands, but eventually becoming a part of society, these gave rise to the Dark Dwarves who rule in the Deserto de Bronze as well as those who live in Terrenoire.
The dwarves that were the ancestors to the Drachen Klaue dwarves that are today best known in Aldan lived and worked at the heart of the kingdom, furthest from the sea. The capital of Bomferro stood beneath the great mountain Khro Umgor, named in ancient Dwarven and was known as Coração de Aço. Here the dwarves spent most of their time in their underground fastnesses, training warriors sent from the coastal provinces and mining the precious ore that made their weapons immeasurably more powerful than the bronze and copper of the southern tribes. Many slaves were sent to the mines, but at the time of the Great Revolt, when the humans, elves and orcs threw off the chains of their dwarven masters these slaves were trapped and exterminated.
Whilst the younger races ravaged the land and tore down the ancient Dwarven kingdom, the King of the Dwarves and his richest vassals ordered their elite troops to seal off the mountain passes. They repelled the rebelling slave cast and sealed the Drachen Klaue, retreating into the mountains not to be seen for many years. When they finally reemerged they found the land under the control of the Empire. The dwarves had been in isolation for so long that they were surprised by the advanced civilisations the 'slave races' had built. Despite a strong sense of Dwarven superiority and an undertone of disdain for the craftsmanship of these people the Dwarves of the mountains begrudgingly allied themselves with the country of Aldan, giving them aid in the form of weapons against the Empire when Karl raised his army at Soiryks command.
It has been two centuries since then and few dwarves survive from that time, but many of their children and grandchildren do. Despite a strong streak of prejudice still running through them and their society the Dwarves of the modern Drachen Klaue accept that they no longer own the lesser peoples. After the slave revolts of so long ago, slavery is outlawed within their kingdom, and has, therefore, become something Dwarves tend to stand strongly against, some on moral grounds and some for the pragmatic reasons of their ancestors. Few dwarves choose to live amongst the Aldanisch, although it is not unheard of. Many, though, are willing to trade with villages near the mountains such as Wegekreuz in the south, Schutzberg in the North or Grenzstadt in the east.

Religions of the Dwarves
Being the descendants of a kingdom the predates the birth of many of the other races gods the Dwarves have a very different religion to much of the rest of the continent. They practice a form of ancestor worship, in which several of their ancient heroes are lifted to deific status.
Chief among these heroes is the ancient Dwarven King Erico and his brother, and rival Prince Emilio. It is believed amongst the dwarves that upon his death Emilio set about conquering the land of the dead and brought a great host under his control. With this army, he invaded the Hel plane, a land of infinite ice, and forced the Lord of Frost to bow to him. It was then that Emilio returned to the mortal realm to seek revenge on his younger brother, Erico. A great war erupted between the Dwarves and their chattel races on one side and the forces of Hel and Death on the other. King Erico was forced back, deeper and deeper into the now-lost Dwarven Homelands of myth until one day he climbed atop a mountain and wrested control of the sun from the god Belenus. He forged the sun's rays into a blade and led his armies to victory, throwing his brother back.
Upon his death King Erico vowed to return should his brother ever rise again. Then he left, climbing to the halls of heaven to make Belenus his manservant. Thus is Erico, the Eternal King of Summer constantly at war with Emilio, the Perished Lord of Winter. Followers of Emilio claim that Erico was a poisoner and usurper and that justice was never meted out. They are passionate believers in writing wrongs but will do so by any means necessary. Followers of Erico believe that Emilio was jealous and vain. They follow a code of respect for others and especially their property and zealously hunt down the undead. Followers of Erico also hold grudges against anyone seen to wrong the Dwarves or who speaks ill of their lord.
There are plenty of other Dwarven ancestor gods if you'd like to know about one that has a particular element in its portfolio feel free to ask and I'll add more.
