I'm a new player on the forum. Your post caught my attention because I've always wanted to play an RPG in the classical era. Personally, rather than the usual races, I'd prefer straight humans. But then, I'm a bit of a history buff in some ways. Maybe all humans but you get different ability bonuses and feats depending on your country of origin? Just an idea. It's hardly the most important thing.

Modern RPGs are heavily influenced by Tolkien, who drew his inspiration heavily from his area of expertise, Western European and Nordic myth. Even in a lightly Hellenic world, I'd like to see the gods, monsters, and so forth draw more from Mediterranean cultures. I think Guillermo del Toro did a great job of this in Pan's Labyrinth.

I also think you're smart to create an alternate classical-ish world so that we can't get bogged down in "real" history.

DM me if and when you get this going. I'd love to play. Or DM me anytime if you want a sounding board for ideas.
