I once played a flatulent two-headed half-ettin named Roffy and Groffy. They were my smelly champions and they unleashed heck upon many an enemy. They were scared of most forms of magic, even from the parties cleric and sorcerer, but they could inflict some serious melee damage and soak it up too. They died heroically and were buried beneath their favorite apple tree. It was for a series of connected mini-adventures so I didn't reroll a character until the next adventure.

My favorite silly NPC was a mad gnome that firmly believed his right hand was a separate being, and that it was plotting to kill him. Anytime he did anything with his right hand he would tell it what to do, unless he forgot to in which case he would then realize what he was doing with his hand and become paranoid that the hand was acting on its own and preparing to kill him. I really enjoyed voice acting that gnome, particularly when he would hit his hand with a tool and then yelp in pain and blame the hand for hurting him. A party favorite NPC.

If something hurts you, it makes sense to learn to control it and use it against your enemies, right? Right?
Usually when I play kobolds, I do something to eliminate or at least mitigate the racial light sensitivity. I get the idea behind it, but it just winds up being an annoyance in most parties. This time, I embraced it. Forgotten Realms game, 3.5 rules set. She was a Radiant Servant of Pelor (reskinned for Lathander) with the Initiate of Lathander feat. So, she had the ability to spontaneously convert spells into anything with the Light descriptor (this is way better than you'd expect, by the way!), and double power illumination! I honestly forget what I actually named that character. Her party called her Squinty the entire campaign because she was pretty much never not dazzled, and by the end of the arc that's even what I had written on my character sheet. Silly mechanics aside, she was a great character who leaned really heavily into the renewal and discovery aspects of Lathander -- even though the Morninglord did have to humor His scaliest servant in her insistence that the sun was the "biggest, best trap of all" when it came time to fight. |

worthless PC
It was in SpaceMaster by ICE. They had minimums you 'should' be at for all of your stats and if you were not, you were allowed to add a certain amount of points to make it 'average.' My player decided to keep the stats he rolled for all attributes even though none of them were at the minimum.
He then went on to make him Homicidal, suicidal, and psychotic with a death wish. This character ended up driving the entire campaign into the ground as the players, all 4 of them, took up Te44o4ism in the name of having fun and bringing the corporations down. The 'worthless' character led the group into so much trouble it was one of the most fun, yet short-lived games I had ever run. |
