Well this kind of game could only end up in betrayal and tragedy. I suppose that was the plan hehe

There was one similar idea I had an idea a long time ago.

Imagine if you will, dogs playing poker. Everyone knows that one. Except instead of dogs, it's a bunch of familiars. In the metropolis of Halvanna familiars, as well as any particularly intelligent animal companions, special mounts, bound spirits, and other similar servitors, get one day off a week. They get together to drink, play cards, bitch about their masters, and generally relax.

Well, you can take that idea and make something similar with a party of familiars and the like, and a party with their masters. Maybe the rodents and frogs etc can go places the masters either won't (sewers) or physically cant (realistic sewers). Or maybe there are important secondary objectives that need to be done, but the primaries don't have the time, or maybe the masters are actually kind of bumbling idiots and the familiars are the hyper competent sidekicks (after all if the master dies Mortimer the intelligent familiar with magic powers returns to Mortimer the stray cat. Horrifying!).

Thanks, that's a good one too. A bit similar to the magical mount, but with familiars instead.

In a collaborative narrative type pbp game that I still manage, in one adventure I split the PCs into two narrative threads to facilitate differences in player post activity. Both narrative threads had the same overall objective, but the four-PC group that posted more frequently had more obstacles, and the two-PC group that posted slower had fewer obstacles.

It was a little tricky, getting both threads to converge at the end, but really fun.

Hall of Fame DM Nickolie did several games like this, my personal favorite was "Villains by Necessity"
Link
One party was the last of the 'bad guys' in the world, trying to restore balance before bad things happened.
Second party was chasing them.

We never actually interacted, whenever someone left the villain party (player had IRL issues, or lost interest), they would get dropped out of the party, and the "heroes" would find them. Likely one of my favorite games I've ever played in. I was on the 'hero' side, and hunted with such single-mindedness that the villains looks polite and kind by comparison.

Game was based on the book "Villains by Necessity" by Eve Forward (Not Robert Forward, though I like his books).
