I finished the manga series, 'Message to Adolf'. Really good. The 5th book starts sort of weird but the second half is really good. Very interesting perspective of WWII seen from Japan and with a bit on the Palestine/Israel conflict that's probably a bit controversial for most Americans but is thought provoking for sure.

Oh neat. I bet there are some good recommendations in here. I'm currently on a reread of The Wheel of Time, in book 6 "The Lord of Chaos". If anyone's unfamiliar with the series, it's about a world where men that use magic (called channeling) are outlawed because they're tainted and will eventually go insane. Women magicians are fearsome manipulators of world events and few people really trust anyone that can channel. It's definitely a product of the time it was written but good fun regardless.

During my hiatus, the best book I read was The Art of Starving by Sam J Miller. I've loved his short stories for years and his debut novel didn't let me down.

I'm currently reading The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler in an attempt to get myself into a proper detective noir mindset for a game on this site. XD

I'm currently reading Fountains of Silence by Ruta Sepetys. It's about a bitter teenage girl working in the Castellana Hilton and an entitled American wannabe photographer who find each other in post-civil war Spain during the '50s. I'll be honest, I'm not really into it; the history is my jam, but I could not care less about the story.

I'm also working my way through the Rebirth run of Superman, which has been interesting. I'm enjoying his dynamic with his son, although I'm not certain I understand how many Super-peeps there are. Superman (Kal-El), Superboy (Conner Kent), Superboy (Jon Kent), Superwoman (Lana Lang), Superwoman (Lois Lane), Supergirl (Kara Zor-El), Krypto the Superdog, oh, and apparently there's also Super-Man (Kenan Kong) which I'm just now hearing about? Not to mention that Clark Kent isn't even the Clark native to this universe, he's the Pre-Crisis Superman that got plucked out of his universe during the Convergence, then deposited on this Earth after they beat Telos... And I'm told it all changes again with something called Reborn? DC, man, I'll tell ya.

I also keep up with Super Sons, Batman, Nightwing, and Young Justice. Hit me up if you want to talk comics!

I listened to the first four stories from Japanese Fairy Tales. It's a free librivox recording. I was surprised to recognize scenes that were familiar from Dragon Ball and The Legend of Zelda.

Just started to re-read Cestus Dei (1983) by John Maddox Roberts (also author of the SPQR Series).

A fun read, excellent example of the space opera genre. Definitely unique, and wish Roberts would've turned it into a series. Highly recommend.

Cestus Dei on Amazon (Amazon tags weren't working for some reason)

Occasionally, I really get into reading something technical. I like it best if it's something that helps me in what I love doing. Since I've picked up playing more on the site, I've wanted to become a better writer. I've been reading Everybody Writes by Ann Handley, and I've enjoyed her way of putting things. A lot of what she suggests is common sense, I believe. However, I'm hearing something I know a different way and it is helping!

Just finished Joe Abercrombie's new book 'A Little Hatred'. Grimdark is where it's at for me at the moment! Thinking of revisiting David Eddings soon though

Chronicles of the Black Company by Glen Cook. Been meaning to try this oft-recommended series and snagged a copy of this collection at the local used bookstore. Reminiscent of Erikson's/Esslemont's Malazan series (more the latter's) except that it predates them by at least 10 years.
