It doesn't take long to reach the boat store, situated close to a long pier that's chained off to public access, though several boats are moored here...in various states of disarray, only two of them look really sea-worthy. The store only just has enough room for all of you to stand, as it's completely crammed full of sailing supplies and a large desk, behind which sits a fat human who grins at you broadly. "Good morning gentlemen, you wish to buy a boat?" |

The setting and the verbal harassment seem to have put Hubris in a stand-offish mood. He lurks near the doorway and remains silent. Checking the street outside for anymore heckler's and scallywags.
Don't let your guard down around desperate people my son The advice of his blood father echoes back from memory, these are just the kinds of men that put the fatal blade into his belly that sorrow stained night so long ago. The merchant's grin does nothing to settle his jangling nerves, a smiling primate is often at it's most aggressive. |

Jules tosses a glance towards Hubris, frowning slightly at his manner before turning his attention to the shopkeeper and smiling, stepping forward and bowing his head. "My name is Jules, and I ain't a gentleman, sir."
"A boat? Mehbe. I 'ave heard a certain man 'as come by these parts, called Penkus? We may need a boat, but first we gotta find Penkus. Got any hints for us, sir?" Jules smiles, inquiring the shop owner, and pausing for a response. Last edited by HarpyBane; Feb 1st, 2010 at 01:14 PM. |

Kirovo is silent, taking up position near the entrance of the stoor, arms crossed with the usual stone-faced expression dominating his predatory features, golden eyes transfixed on the shopkeeper, Toki sitting on his haunches and still somehow managing to appear imposing, a fresh coat of war-paint adorning the hound painting a skeleton over his light-brown fur.

Boar follows Kirovo's example and takes his position, his established (and comfortable) role in the group as the silent man-at-arms. He exists, his strength, his weapons, and his reputation are there if they become needed, and if not, that's quite alright, too.

The shop owner frowns, a little annoyed this group wasn't looking to buy a boat and go off sailing on some adventure. "Penkus...Penkus...ahh little fellow, gnome with a bright smile but a mean look in his eye." He excuses himself for a minute, dealing with a customer ordering some new sails made, before returning to his desk. "Yeah, Penkus was in here not to long ago, but what of it? Client Privacy and all that..."

Hubris laughs to himself at the mention of client privacy, the only thing this man keeps private is his net worth. So as to avoid being robbed for his silver from the local gangs.
As the last client leaves with his order filled, Hubris leans against the door to prevent anyone else from coming in the shop. He scowls at the shoppe keeper menacingly from under his hooded robe, to help create the mood that the groups questions must be answered truthfully. |

Jules' smile widens. "Well listen here" Jules bends close, whispering just barely audibly "If you had'nt guessed it, we're just some noble's hounds. I jus' wanna get this job over with and buy meself a nice fishing boat to live the rest of mah days out with. Can ya help me out for a second?" Jules bites his lip and doesnt have to act nervous, knowing that he could get kicked out of the shop if they hold up buisiness for long.

Herb was in the shop to of course, even though he didn't seem to want to be part of the group the honest truth was he was never far from the group. Striking his normal pose against some fishing supplies. "I see you ave a few boats out there, it would be a shame if you were to loose em, ya know, bad fer business if they were ta go missing..."

The shopkeep scowls at Herb, but still listens politely to Jules' questions. "Alright alright...Penkus came in here with a bloke just a week or two back, one of those guys with a real mean look in their eye. Vantha or something? Anyway, the two of them bought a small sailing boat, loads of oil and rope and sailed off West somewhere with huge grins on their faces."
Watching the more unsavoury members of the group closely he shrugs at Jules and says "That's all I know, I swear. Other than I made a nice big profit that day....that crazy bugger paid in platinum pieces, can you believe that?" |

Sound's like confirmation that big brother was ransacking the family coffers, what a fiend. I wonder if he is addicted to Vecna weed...sometimes that can make a normal person turn desperate and evil Hubris thinks to himself while waiting for the others to finish shaking information out of this man.
"They didn't mention where they were going, are you absolutley sure..." Hubris asks in a grave tone, sparks of magic shooting from his finger tips to punctuate the question. Last edited by Redoak; Feb 3rd, 2010 at 12:38 PM. |

"Thank ya' sir. We'll be going now, I dun wanna detract too much business from ya." Jules smiles and bows his head, exiting the shop, taking a moment to drag Herb with him by the shoulder to the other three men just standing around.
"Well, a' least we got some knowledge. Lets head back to the purse n' tell em what we found out here" |

Giving the shopkeeper one last stare, Kevot pushes off of the wall and clicks his tongue, to which Toki stands and walks out after Jules and Herb. The Half-Elf himself waits a moment, looking to Hubris for a moment before moving out to the street.

"Just that they went West.." says the shopkeep with a laugh, scary sparks indeed. This is Shadowshore! Sparks are nothing up to the cutthroats and rapists that live here. And so the group leaves the shop, not having gained much knowledge other than that Vanthus just spent alot of money, more than likely taken from the family vault. Hubris is the last to leave the shop, the others already a few steps down the street. He feels a tap on his shoulder, and turns around to face a skinny looking man who's rubbing his hands together nervously. "So uhh...I hear you're the ones looking for Vanthus. For a small fee I could tell you where he keeps taking that boat to..." He licks his lips and holds out one hand. "Say five gold and a beer?"

The shopkeeper giving him the brush off mildly annoyed Hubris, but his nature doesn't allow for it to show. He simply nods and leaves the nautical general goods store and quicksteps to close ground with the others. When a skinny fellow taps him and seems to be aware of there groups search for Vanthus Vanderboren. A quick assessment of the fellow gives Hubris pause, but he has a counter offer.
"We are indeed searching for the good man, his sister seek's news of him. I would happily buy you a drink and if over the tankard of beer your information proved itself as substantial as your character, I think we would happily pay you for it. Come let me flag my companions down, and we shall go straight away to the nearest tavern for a good drink and a chat." Yelling out at Boar, Hubris flags his quick stepping hasty companions down and introduces the skinny fellow and his proposition. "What did you say your name was, my good man?" |
