The Silent Tide - Continuation
The new aged wood of the Decemvirate Lodge is newly garnered in mahogany varnished to a deep finish as the networks of corridors are brightly illuminated by lantern. The hard stone floors are kept clean by the orderlies who are rendered payment through the officals of the Decemvirate. The ambiance of the decor is painted with abstract stone sculptures and mosaic stone patterned art. The only thing missing is the female touch, any pattern of feeling and emotion is more evident by more masculine features. As each of you join from different sections of the Barracks, pouring into the room, some smile and are met with a confident Adril Hestrem who is organizing different adventurers ready for their first mission. The smile is sincere and the laughter is joyous as the well muscled man see's your approach and nods to a few of the men and woman who take his advice and move on. The somewhat crowded room begins to thin out a bit as Adril is expecting you. Waiting to hear from each of you, Hestrem wants a full report of the situation with Yargos Gill and the Taldorian Codex Tome. Hearing bits and pieces of your report, he notes Yargos involvement with the Noble Loyalists and a show of concern suggests the Captain is worried about the bitter rivalry of the Secessionists and Loyalists taking to the streets. There is also mention about the Taldorian Codex and a diabolical plan to undermind the city state of Absalom. Even the mention of the Lizard Folk and wanting to create chaos and epidemic in Absalom by becoming allied with Mr. Gill and the promise of a land ownership to the aquatic race. Adril Hestrem has been well informed and asks all of you, "Anything else?" Last edited by Storm; Jan 25th, 2014 at 11:00 PM. |

Reyd stands leaning against the wall, eyes peering out the window into the street. He carves an apple in his hand with his dagger and pops a slice into his mouth listening intently to Hestrem's briefing. There was one more thing. The War Hounds. They wanted Gill

As Skurvin awakens, he spends an hour summoning Kria back to the material plane. A glowing circle brightens, and her body takes shape, only this time, something is different. Large bat-like wings sprout from her back where none had been previously. As her clawed feet touch the ground and her red eyes open, she turns her head to look over her shoulder, inspecting the new appendages.
Skurvin slowly circles her, admiring his work. “Very nice,” he says to himself. “I do hope you like them, my dear.” He gently strokes her cheek before donning his gear and opening the door. “Well best not to delay more than we already have. No doubt there will be much talk concerning last night’s events, and I intend to hear it.” Kria folds her wings down, draping them around herself like a cloak as she follows him out to meet the others. She makes no acknowledgement of anyone as Skurvin greets fellow guild members with a tight smile and curt nod. She treats everyone with an uncomfortable indifference. Skurvin listens to the debriefing, offering little other than the bits that made himself and Kria look good. He often found that it was best to let someone else take the spotlight when giving a report. That way they can take the heat if your superior wasn’t happy with what they heard. When Reyd mentions the war hounds, Skurvin speaks up. “Kria frightened them off easily enough. I doubt they are any real threat.” ![]()

The intrepid adventurer had been up for a while by the time the meeting was called. It was an eventful day yesterday, and who knows what lies ahead. In any case, a smart adventurer is always prepared. And so, the wayward crusader was now refreshed and ready for a new day of doing what was right, in order to keep the streets of Absalom safe from pending evil.
And Faunra was ready to serve, as well. Meowww. Oh, be quiet. The elven wizard listens to Captain Hestrem address the party, and she sits intently while Reyd's comment regarding the War Hounders is fully discussed. She watches Skurvin raise his chalice, and wonders what it might take to similarly raise his sense of urgency. These 'War Hounders' must be stopped. Can't have a name like 'War Hounders' and be anything but malignant. She'll address the assembly probably near the end of the others' posts; what follows isn't completely germane to the other concerns - just kind of an aside, reallyWhen a reasonable pause in the discussion has been reached, Faunra speaks on the old library from where they had an exciting evening. Captain, we retrieved the codex from Gill at a rather interesting and out of the way establishment, to say the least. Seems there is a veritable treasure of tomes shelved in an old building in a questionable part of town. When we've time for it, I'll be happy to direct a garrison to go there and retrieve the rather-massive collection of books and articles. Such potential knowledge needs to be properly stored and catalogued. It could be of valuable use to the Grand Lodge, and a possible source of enlightenment for the community we seek to uphold. As you probably know I work at the University, and I am a professional curator. I'd be happy to head-up an effort to catalog the collection pro-bono; I'd only ask that the Lodge reimburse my expenses and that my party be granted free and unlimited access to the knowledge therein, so that we may enhance our individual crafts and thereby be of even greater service to your efforts. I hope such an endeavor might be considered. Faunra knew their adventuresome journey was not yet done. She wanted a change of pace from the dull university life, and seems she found it.

Molrim had been up for a while for elves do not sleep long. He spent the good part of the morning cleaning and polishing his weapons and making sure his armor was up to his expectations. Upon being happy with its status he suited up and walked downstairs for a small meal. When he got down to the barracks he found that they had begun the discussion without him. He was quite all right with that. He did not have much to say for he was not part of the group who was there to witness Yargos' "demise." So he walked over to skurvin and took a seat next to him and Kria giving a good morning nod before turning to his drink and listening to the conversation that was taking place.

Physically, Belros felt much better after the nights rest but there was still that gnawing doubt at the back of his mind. It was like an itch that he just couldn't reach and it wouldn't go away. He still had his questions about Hestrem and he wondered about the wisdom of divulging so much information but there seemed little alternative at the moment. Shaking the thoughts from his head, Belros listens as the others relate the events of the previous day. He offers his own thoughts and impressions when necessary and called upon but otherwise allows the others to speak to Hestrem. As he watches and listens, Belros does his best to try and get a read on Hestrem and how he is receiving the information.
Belros nods his head in agreement with Faunra and he was glad his companion broached the subject. "I agree with my learned companion," Belros says with a nod to Faunra, "and would also like to have access to this library at the appropriate time. There is much that might be learned from such a trove." |

Pogar ensures that he's not the first one to the meeting, in fact, he ensures he's the last one to the meeting, intentionally showing up late. His approach is heard echoing from the hall as his thick and heavy boots thump with each foot step, it's cadence heralding his approach. He grunts in acknowledgement to those he had fought with and to the one he views as his "boss", but says little else.
As the talk drones on, Pogar settles back, in the back and pulls out a whetstone and begins drawing it across the already deadly smile of his axe head. Shhhhkrriiit echos in the hall in a rhythmic manner. If Pogar is trying to be annoying, he shows nothing on his face but dutiful care to his beloved weapon. Those that have learned his mannerisms know that he is there, more so for protection than for his intelligence. |

"Skurvin, Faunra, I'm not sure about the War Hounders being a threat or whatever at all. I'd say they are potential allies as much as anything.
And yes, Skurvin, there is not much to be said for their bravery as they were driven off with ease. " Morton frowns slightly. "Captain Hestrem. Would you be so kind as to help us find Nessien, leader of the War Hounders? If nothing else, we know that they have information on the Taldorian insurgents. They were there asking question first, of course. Their methods may be inappropriate, but they know something, and they are not trying to put the population of this city under a yoke. " ![]() "Any help would be greatly appreciated. We all feel obliged to help the city." |

Bit of a book worm, Skurvin thinks as the Faunra makes her suggestion. Books were always valuable, knowledge was power after all, but the library wasn’t going anyway in Skurvin’s opinion.
Skurvin greats Molrim with a teasing but pleasant smile. “Not much of a morning person I take it?” He says in a hushed tone as he sat down next to Skurvin and Kria. “Well you didn’t miss much. Meetings bee rather dull so far.” Skurvin observes the dwarf’s abysmal display of etiquette with a tight smile hiding his disdain for such crude behavior. Allies, or cannon fodder, Skurvin thinks with an amused smile at Morton’s words. Still, he saw no better options being placed on the table, and ally or enemy, Skurvin would like to know what their goals were. “Well,” he says pleasantly to everyone. “I doubt it will take all of us to fight off a library. Since Faunra has shown such an interest, why don’t we let her head up that recovery while the rest of us go have a chat with the leader of the war hounds.” His smile broadens. “See if we can come to an understanding.”

"I rarely like to speak for others," Belros replies with a look to Skuvrin and Faunra, "but I believe Faunra is making a suggestion for when we have completed our other tasks and have time for it. Neither she nor I wish to delay other pressing matters for searching through the tomes, though there might be much to learn from them. But other matters are more pressing and we need to decide on them. The library can wait but it would be good to know that is possible later.
Belros hopes that he has not misspoken for Faunra but he believes that was the intent and he knows that is certainly how he views it. |

"Bah!" Pogar bellows before he lets out a deep belch. "If'n I be talkin ta the lad, we'd be at an understand'n right quickly." Pogar says quite confidently, then stands and stomps forward.
"One thing ye all seem ta be fergettin, wi' our activities, tha night afore, enemies were made. And, while we're nae a tight bunch o' fools, we've spilt blood together, 'nd I'd nae feel so good if'n one o' us fools were picked off headn ta some library." he says, his voice a deep resonant sound that is loud. "Maybe I'll escorte Faunra ta tha..." Pogar trails off as he realizes Belros is speaking. "Aye, or we can do tha, like 'e said." he adds, thumbing in Belros' direction. If he's smiling, you can't see, nor could you tell if he were offended or not. His demeanor is not one of many changes. Last edited by doggius; Jan 23rd, 2014 at 03:38 PM. |

"I fail to see how my suggestion would cause any delay," Skurvin says to Belros. "In fact the very point was to save time." He smiles teasingly. "Or do you really think it will take all of us to carry a few books? She should be able to take a few scribes with her and transport them back here while we attend to the more potentially dangerous matter. If she does run into trouble, Pogar can protect her"

"True, friend Skurvin," replies Belros. "I only caution against our splitting up. We might need all-hands-on-deck, as they say, for our next endeavor. Perhaps some wisdom from Hestrem will help us decide."
The cleric looks to the man in charge to see if he has an opinion on the options before them. He is the one who hands out their assignments all the same. |

Naum enters in the midst of conversation, and turns his attention to the mess left behind. He begins cleaning, piling and sweeping without a care. A somber face belies twinkling eyes, busy hands and
Dice perception why not:
He finds his allies report more than sufficient, and has nothing to add to the debate at hand. If one of his them seeks to head out alone, he'll simply accompany them. |

"Of course," Skurvin says with a graceful shrug, conveying his indifference to the matter. "I merely seek to accomplish our goals in the most efficient manner."
And if I can alleviate myself of the two most irritating non-humans in our group, well that's just a nice little bonus, he thinks to himself, smiling as he sips from his cup.
