Hmm... I keep on thinking of a courier of some type, but the fact that there is magic makes me kind of want to embrace that. I think I really am going to have to get the book(s) because:
1) I like narrative freedom. 2) The setting had my interest and now it has my attention. Last edited by danab; Mar 4th, 2021 at 07:52 PM. |

I was wondering how much of this adventure would involve ships as I had considered a captain or shipwright character unless our characters are only going to be on the slave ship in the beginning.

Definitely a large part of the beginning as you will start on a ship and depending on how things go you may need to do a bit of time on a ship to get back. I do however intend to do a bit on the aisles where the slaves are at and your eventual return to Avalon or the main continent.

Just saw this and am definitely going to apply. Have played 7th Sea a few times at conventions and its a lot of fun. Love the bold and daring style it has.
One clarifying questions: Your notes say "Nation: One must be from Avalon the other anywhere" which I am confused by. Does our character have to be from Avalon?

One of the PCs selected will need to be from Avalon to be the person mentioned in the intro story post that got betrayed. None of the other PCs have to be from Avalon.

Hiruma has it correct. One character should be from Avalon which we have covered already. As you will meet on a slave ship you can be from pretty much anywhere.
To start I am looking for 2-5 player characters. One will be the noble who has been betrayed by the men in the above description, but if no one chooses that route we can always make that an NPC. Outside of the above context you have free reign on your backstory. You will be starting your journey on a slave ship where you will meet the other characters who will have also been captured. That is where our journey will begin. The story will cover you achieving your freedom and making your way back to Avalon or your other places of origin to get revenge and clear your name. So feel free to build any sort of character you would like, the diversity will make it a more dynamic story. |

I think my idea of Lachlan's background is evolving.
Going to look harder at the Sidhe Squire which should still support the conflict with Knox that I laid out. I keep getting a Harry Dresden vibe. Understanding the Sidhe, respecting the power, tied to them but...cautious and guarded recognizing how dangerous they are and walking the line to protect others from that danger. A noble trying to balance that is going to be drawn into some sticky situations and definitely make some enemies. |

![]() Name: Luka Wąż Nation: Sarmatian Commonwealth Starting Story: A Quest for Dracheneisen As his first solo mission for Die Kreuzritter, Luka has journeyed halfway across Theah, determined to find a cache of Dracheneisen without their help, and earn a name for himself. He ending up tricked by his dievas, so he is now undertaking his journey in irons in the belly of a slave ship, though he is still going in the right direction. Arcana: The Magician (Virtue: Willful) and The Fool (Hubris: Curious) Physical Description: An athletic young man, tall and muscular, well-dressed. He can't hide the grace of a practiced fighter, but his demeanor is more deliberate and scholarly. He always seems relaxed and at ease, as if he knows everything will work out, even in the direst of circumstances. He wears a Vaticine cross, though he rarely discusses religion. He also openly wears a swordsman's pin, and is usually heavily armed with a broadsword, a heavy steel gauntlet (Panzerhand), and several pistols. Personality: Luka is schooled with the sword but sometimes seems reluctant to use it. In fact, he is not so reluctant, though he will try his utmost to avoid combat against a righteous foe. He is a scholar as much as a swordsman, enjoying intellectual discussion when he finds it, and never able to pass up the chance to investigate a mystery. He's also quite happy carousing and finding simple entertainment with friends, enjoying brotherhood with other warriors, unwinding together after a long day. He follows the Vaticine faith, though he is cautious around the devout, knowing he would be burned at the stake if he was discovered to be a sorcerer. He seldom discusses religion, and never truthfully, for his genuine views are highly heretical. His knowledge of the many supernatural forces other than the church gives him the perspective of Theus and the Prophets as being among many comparable forces, but he gives them allegiance because he sees them as the most benevolent of such forces, though he suspects that even the Prophets and Theus have their own motives that may not be to the benefit of humanity. Background: Žynys (Soothsayer)/Duelist Luka was born in a tiny Curonian hamlet, son of a woodcutter and his wife. As a young boy, his family discovered that whenever foreign travelers came through, Luka could understand them almost instinctively. He was sent to the village žynys, Markov, to learn to read, and from then on spent time at the priest's residence every day, learning his letters rapidly, then studying with Markov and reading on his own. He read of a mysterious practice called Sanderis, but before he could read enough to learn the rules of Bargains and the nature of dievas, his precocity was noticed by one of the creatures, who approached him to make a Bargain before the boy could learn of the rules and the dangers. Over many days, the Dievas promised him great knowledge, and spoke to him of the rich lives scholars lived in the cities. Eventually, Luka decided to make a deal. All he had to do in return for the gift of knowledge was to give his father's axe to the next tinker to travel through the village, to be sharpened, maintained and returned. Luka felt that something was strange about that, but the thought of being able to make his family rich overwhelmed his doubts. The next peddler to come through was a man named Aleksy; and Luka waited until his father came home from the public house. While his father snored, deep in his cups, the boy ran through the growing twilight, bringing the axe to the tinker. Strangely, the boy didn't need to explain anything, the man was waiting for him, and the tinker was done quickly enough that Luka was able to return quickly, and didn't get caught. Much to the boy's horror, the next day his father had a horrible accident in the woods, his axe twisting in his hand and cleaving his leg nearly in two, the man bleeding to death as he dragged himself back to the village. Aleksy the tinker, who had also done the bidding of a dievas, fled the village in a panic when he heard what had happened, knowing that the price he'd paid for a favor had killed an innocent man. Luka was horrified, of course, and even moreso when the dievas told him how proud he was that the boy had made a Deal at such a young age, praising him as a prodigy; but reminding him that his deal was only for Knowledge, not wealth; devastating the boy when he realized he'd traded his father's life for something so ephemeral. Of course, nobody knew Luka had anything to do with it; his mother moved back to her childhood home, and from then on Luka was raised by his mother and grandparents. Luka told noone what had happened, but read all the more intently, learning more about the rules and risks of Sanderis, trying to figure out if any good could come of his horrible mistake; and learning the ultimate purpose of Sanderis, to bring a dievas into the mortal world and destroy it. Other boys might have resolved never to ask the dievas for anything ever again, but he chose instead to make sure that he could achieve enough good to someday counterbalance the patricide he'd committed. The Ratas Circle came, as always somehow knowing that a new Deal had been formed, and his previous mistake was deeply chastised, while his resolve was met with approval; and he was given further education in the ways of Sanderis. When Luka got old enough to begin thinking seriously about his own future, he knew that to achieve great good in the world he would have to leave his village. He started travelling, managing to pass for closer to adult than he truly was, wandering at random, doing good deeds when he could; mastering many languages, and learning much about the world. He ended up in Eisen, where he was in the right place at the right time to help a young nobleman who was accosted by a rogue Liebewerk. The two became friends, Otto (the young noble) assuming he was a student at the nearby duelist academy; but when he found out otherwise, he arranged a scholarship through family connections, so his new friend could attend with him. Luka enjoyed his time at the academy; learning what camaraderie was for the first time, fitting into the culture of entitled young warriors by keeping quiet about his own humble origins, compensating for his lack of formal education with worldliness and his haphazard but extensive reading. He gradually awakened to the deadliness of the Eisen night, and deciding he wanted to empower himself to fight the creatures that lived in it, he struck a new Deal, for Darkness. This time, his part of the deal was to "subject himself to a creature of the night." Luka had noticed but carefully not acknowledged that certain advanced students met at night, in secret; but knowing those who met, he felt sure that they did not have a nefarious purpose. To fulfill his bargain, he joined them, and ended up swearing fealty to the Kreuzritter, the secret knights who patrol the darkness of Eisen; submitting himself to an unexpected sort of creature of darkness, but fulfilling the Deal. Upon becoming a member of Die Kreuzritter and graduating from the Academy, Luka started wandering again. Aware of the society's need for Dracheneisen, he realized he had an advantage in the search for such things. So he travelled across Theah, pursuing a cache at a location his dievas had named. Relying a little too much on his bargain, Luka ended up on a ship to a mysterious location, getting closer to his goal – but rather than as a passenger, he was in the brig, in irons. Personal Goals: Luka, above all, wants to turn the power of the evil and inhuman against itself, to do good. In particular, using the power of his dievas to aid him in slaying monsters and protecting the innocent, until he eventually completes its name, bringing it into this world to be slain in turn. Player Goals: I just want to swash bucklers and have fun. Contacts: Violetta A beautiful young Vodacce woman, Luka doesn't know her last name. He met her in his travels, as he met many people; but then he met her again, and again, seemingly at random. She is wealthy, at least enough to travel in a carriage with a bodyguard, and she recently gave Luka a ride over the mountains from Eisen into Montaigne, part of his journey in pursuit of Dracheneisen. He was surprised to meet her in Eisen, as before it had always been in Vodacce or Rzeczpospolita. It was the sixth time they'd met, but the first time they'd done more than talk. Their time together in her plush carriage was very pleasant, and she spoke ramblingly of fate in a way that convinced him she was a Sorte Strega, but he didn't let on that he'd guessed that. They went their separate ways in Sices, and her parting words were, "We will meet a seventh time. Whether we meet in light or in darkness will determine both our fates." She refused to say more, just waving at him from her carriage window as it headed south. Otto von Brahm A handsome and dashing young Eisen noble, Luka saved his life and the two are as close as brothers now. Otto owes Luka his life, but Luka feels that Otto did the same for him, making it possible for him to pursue his dream of confronting inhuman horrors, by getting him in the academy first, and Die Kruezritter later. They pursue their own paths now, but both work toward the same goal, and they will always call each other "brother". Alexy the Peddler The man who was so integral to Luka's childhood tragedy is still at large. His dievas succeeded at turning him into a villain, but he remembers that he wasn't always this way, and he blames Luka for his downfall, and for the fact that he is now hunted by the Valytuvas. His path crossed Luka's in Montaigne, their dievas working together to trick the younger man into joining with a company of travelers, who were in fact slavers that shipped him off to the east... Secret: Kind of spilled already, but he's a sorcerer in Die Kreuzritter, so he's very careful.
