Hmm... I keep on thinking of a courier of some type, but the fact that there is magic makes me kind of want to embrace that. I think I really am going to have to get the book(s) because:

1) I like narrative freedom.

2) The setting had my interest and now it has my attention.

I was wondering how much of this adventure would involve ships as I had considered a captain or shipwright character unless our characters are only going to be on the slave ship in the beginning.

Definitely a large part of the beginning as you will start on a ship and depending on how things go you may need to do a bit of time on a ship to get back. I do however intend to do a bit on the aisles where the slaves are at and your eventual return to Avalon or the main continent.

Just saw this and am definitely going to apply. Have played 7th Sea a few times at conventions and its a lot of fun. Love the bold and daring style it has.

One clarifying questions: Your notes say "Nation: One must be from Avalon the other anywhere" which I am confused by. Does our character have to be from Avalon?

One of the PCs selected will need to be from Avalon to be the person mentioned in the intro story post that got betrayed. None of the other PCs have to be from Avalon.

Hiruma has it correct. One character should be from Avalon which we have covered already. As you will meet on a slave ship you can be from pretty much anywhere.

To start I am looking for 2-5 player characters. One will be the noble who has been betrayed by the men in the above description, but if no one chooses that route we can always make that an NPC. Outside of the above context you have free reign on your backstory.
You will be starting your journey on a slave ship where you will meet the other characters who will have also been captured. That is where our journey will begin. The story will cover you achieving your freedom and making your way back to Avalon or your other places of origin to get revenge and clear your name.

So feel free to build any sort of character you would like, the diversity will make it a more dynamic story.

I think my idea of Lachlan's background is evolving.

Going to look harder at the Sidhe Squire which should still support the conflict with Knox that I laid out. I keep getting a Harry Dresden vibe. Understanding the Sidhe, respecting the power, tied to them but...cautious and guarded recognizing how dangerous they are and walking the line to protect others from that danger.

A noble trying to balance that is going to be drawn into some sticky situations and definitely make some enemies.

Character Concept - ApplicationName: Gaspar Cristobal de Mencia. Many that he has helped have begun to tell stories of Caminante, the “Walker”. A lone man that walks the roads of Castille helping those in need. His sister still calls him Pastelito, a nickname that means ‘Pie’ from when he would cook with his mother.
Nation: Castille
Starting Story: Returning the Favor
Ending: Gaspar defeats Francisco and makes him pay for his crimes against the people of Castille.
Reward: TBD
Step 1 -4: TBD

Arcana:
Virtue – Willful
Hubris – Unfortunate

Physical Description: Gaspar has the look of a well-bred man with a hint of trouble in his face. His nose has a slight bend to it and there is a very slight scar across one eyebrow that most people miss. He keeps his dark black hair cut short on the sides and back and longer in the front where it is parted in the middle. His soft brown eyes and genuine smile make him inviting if not necessarily handsome. Standing just slightly taller than the average Castilian, his years of battle giving him a frame of strong, lean muscle. Despite this, he is not an imposing figure but those who know to size a potential foe up will note that he moves with purpose and confidence. When not a prisoner his typical garb is a pair of puffy striped breeches, either of black with red or green with yellow. These were caught and tied at the knee with corded rope and worn over leggings. He goes through boots quite regularly as he walks throughout Castille. He prefers thigh high boots of brown leather with good strong soles and only the slightest hint of a heel. A slashed tunic matching the stipe of his breeches would be worn over a leather corselet and a one shoulder cloak of black or blue would be worn on his left side. The flat plumed cap with a narrow brim that he wears matches his cloak in color, the plume being white.

Personality: A humble man, Gaspar carries himself with confidence but does not seek to be the center of attention. A good listener with a wise heart, he tends to offer comfort not advice to those facing challenges. Despite his life of tragedy, he is a positive and cheerful man who chooses to see the beauty of the Creator in most things. He has a soft spot for children, always shows respect to women and often will defer to clergy and matriarchs. He is devout in his faith, striving to live a life that honors the scriptures as he sees faith as a very personal matter. He disagrees with those who have pulled away from the church but sees that as a matter between them and the Creator. When there is a task or challenge to be faced, he becomes focused and intense. He sees that for every task there is a right way and a wrong way to accomplish it. One must do what is right. He has little patience for dealing with those too lazy or stubborn to do what is right.

Background: Tercio
While many of the Tercio fought for national pride or the glory of their Ducado, being a devout Vaticine, Gaspar fought to ensure that the people of Castille could hold onto their faith. He joined to oppose having it taken away by the forces of L’Empereur, who had stripped the comfort of faith from his very own people. The war with Montaigne took him far from his home and away from his family. Of all his hardships during those years, missing his sainted mother and younger siblings was hardest for him.

Gaspar excelled in combat and gained the reputation of the man to have at your back. When many tercio deserted and turned to mercenary work after months of no payment, Gaspar remained to fight for Castille. With this, some ceased to look fondly on Gaspar, decrying him as an overly righteous pawn of the church or a judgmental elitist. One such man was Francisco Bartolome. A friend who had once fought side by side with Gaspar before turning mercenary in the last months of the war. With great duplicity he made Gaspar believe that he was hired to aid in a final push against the Montaigne forces that had kept the Castillian forces pinned in a valley. It was in the midst of the rally to break free that Francisco and his men turned and handed the Castillians over to the Montaigne commander. It was with great pleasure and scorn that Francisco presented Gaspar to his true employers in ropes and on his knees. For months he remained a prisoner until the war officially ended. Unwilling to be slowed down by prisoners as they retreated, the Montaigne released him and the othered prisoners still alive.

During the time he was held prisoner, his mother passed away and soon after the family lands were lost due to their funds drying up. For years their savings paid to maintain their holdings as they waited for money from Gaspar that never came. The government did not pay the tercio so he had no funds to send home. With the exception of his youngest sister Luisa the rest of his siblings denounced him, blaming him for their troubles. Just as in the war, Gaspar’s faith kept him and gave him purpose. Whereas many of his former comrades turned to work for hire, Gaspar turned to helping those in need and relying on their kindness. He walked the roads of Torres, Soldano and Zepeda offering his help to those unable to fight for themselves. Stories began to be told about Caminante, the lone man who took down petty tyrants, drove off bandits and protected those who had none to defend them. It was not long before those seeking to take advantage of the defenseless decided Caminante was a problem to be dealt with. If one did not believe the hand of Fate was strong in Castille, one would only need to hear that it was none other than Francisco Bartolome who was hired to deal with Caminante. Once again Gaspar and Franciso faced off and once again Francisco’s lies and underhandedness served Gaspar up to those who he fought to bring down.

And so it is that Gaspar now finds himself imprisoned in the hold of a slave ship. Unsure of where it is headed or what his fate will be when they land, he puts himself in the hands of the Creator and the Prophets once again. He accepts whatever path they have set for him but he prays they will let him return home to find Francisco and make his former friend pay for his betrayal.

Personal Goals: The loss of his mother while held prisoner was hard for Gaspar to accept and that, coupled with the guilt he felt for being away and unable to help, led to him handling his siblings anger towards him poorly. He hopes to be able to reconcile with his brothers and sisters and one day be able to purchase back his family’s holdings. He looks forward to the day that he can give his sister Lucia away at her wedding. With their father long gone it was up to the oldest son to do so.

Player Goals: There are a few things I want for Gaspar and they may seem contradictory. I want him to become known as a hero of the people, whose faith and kindness are an inspiration for those less fortunate and facing hardships. He does what he does because it is right, and he can. Not for fame or reward. At the same time, and maybe due to this happening, I want for him to have to come to a reckoning between his faith and the church. Having him struggle with being able to justify living his faith but rejecting church which allows the Inquisition can be a great quandary to play with. Whether this become a breaking point for him, encourages him to join Los Vagabundos or take some other path will be fun to discover. One thing I do not want for him is to easily reconcile with this family. He carries to much burden and guilt to just have that go away as a source of tension for him. He loves his sister Luisa but maybe as she studies at the University she becomes a bit radical and this troubles him.

Contacts:
Luisa Concheta de Mencia – his youngest sister who he calls Conejito (Little Bunny). She is a student at the University of Rioja, having been sponsored by a family friend.
Hernando de Mencia – the second oldest sibling after Gaspar. Of them all it is Hernando who was the most angered at Gaspar and holds the strongest grudge.
Fransciso Bartolome – a former comrade-in-arms and friend that has betrayed Gaspar. Twice.
Father Ernesto Alchella – He is pastor of a small church along the Soldano River. A frail but keen minded older man, the two have had many meaningful talks on faith, politics and life. Gaspar has come to view Father Ernesto as a friend and would stop to see him when he could.

Secret: Just before being captured and enslaved, Caminante was approached by agents of Los Vagabundos and offered a position as one of their agents in Castille. He had planned on accepting but was captured before he could get back in touch with his contact. A secret that Gaspar has struggled with (and not yet fully admitted to himself) is that he has begun to question the Church and its motives in Castille.

Working Away...

Moral Compass

Dalora Nikiamara
Numanari Combat Instructor
Brush Past & Reckless Takedown AdvantagesOrphan & Duelist Academy (Lakedaimon Agoge) & Team Player AdvantagesDocent

Her hair is chestnut, streaked lighter by the sun, and falls in gentle waves around a narrow face. High cheekbones, an aquiline nose and an angular jawline give her features a sharpness that lends them a sort of severity even when she's smiling. Her skin is dark enough to speak of some Crescent ancestry while being light enough to show the effects of the sun. Faded scars, each a reminder of some battle lost or lesson learned, mark her cheek and peek from under her sleeves. She is long-limbed and lanky, her body wrapped in worked muscle from countless hours of physical activity and athletic training. Both the climate of her home and the mobile nature of her fighting style incline her toward loose-fit or minimalist clothing without unnecessary fringe or adornments. Despite her usual disdain for embellishment, she does have a fondness for purple and uses it for accent when she can obtain it.

Beneath the SkinStarting Story: The Next Generation (4 Step)
  • Step 1: Dalora locates a promising candidate for training in Lakedaimon Agoge.
  • Steps 2-3: TBD
  • Step 4: Dalora's candidate proves themselves worthy of becoming her protegee.
  • Reward: Gain the Trusted Companion advantage.

Arcana: Virtue - The Beggar (Insightful), Hubris - The Sun (Proud)

Personality: The other urchins she grew up with on the streets of Nikiamara got by on luck, or speed, or guile. Dalora, however, has always been a planner. She views obstacles as puzzles to solve and develops contingencies to account for them. Some might say she over plans, and they might be right, but never being caught without a roadmap for her next move has always done well for her. Her time as an orphan, first on the streets and then in the Lakedaimon Home for Abandoned Youth, taught her the value of going unnoticed and taking advantage when opportunities present themselves. Her later scholastic pursuits have provided her a foundation in natural sciences and history while her skill with the sword, spear and bow make her a formidable and noteworthy opponent in combat. Her passions burn hot and she drinks, fights and plays with equal fervor. The importance she puts on her own accomplishments and having them known arises from the values of her homeland, but underpinning that is her desire to push others toward the same greatness.

Background: Compared to the life of urchins in other nations, Dalora didn't have it so bad. Her parents were never in the picture but the people in Numa have a strong sense of community and charity. She never lacked food, whether it was taken from discarded scraps or given by merchants and cooks working stalls in the square. Competition among the city's urchins was built on their natural desire to prove themselves rather than any form of scarcity. The old ruins beneath the city provided shelter from the weather with no struggle for space. She worked with Karak, her closest friend and most capable rival, as they mingled frequently with foreigners who came to petition Galatus for permission to study the ruins, guiding them and lightening their pockets as the situation demanded. Picking up languages came easy and she easily became conversational in many of Theah's major trade tongues.

Things turned around for her when the Lakedaimon Home for Abandoned Youth opened its doors in Nikiamara. An orphanage, yes, but primarily a training and recruitment center to find promising children for the academies throughout Numa. Anyone who picked up skill in the spear, blade and bow quickly could find a place in the academies without concern for cost. Dalora was one such promising student, and she left her home at ten to join the academy in Lakedaimon where she trained under Docent Euthalia and formed a friendship that would only strengthen with age. The academy taught her to fight, yes, but also to hunt and think. Her skills at lifting purses and wearing shadows didn't atrophy, as food was only given once a day unless the students could hunt or steal more for themselves. She made friends by providing extra portions from the food she took from the storehouse, connections that would last as they left to return to their lives in other nations.

Dalora returned to Nikiamara at 15, having learned enough to find a place as an assistant trainer in the Nikiamaran academy. The city had changed little during her time away and she reacquainted herself with old friends like Karak, who had gone on to work for Galatus as a message runner, and old enemies like Marci du Mont, who had tightened her hold on the relic trade out of the ruins. Serving initially as an assistant, she soon graduated to the role of a true docent and took on classes of her own. The spear was her strongest study and she added guile and misdirection to her courses to round out the education. Her nights were frequently spent driving treasure hunters and thieves out of the ruins, a task she appointed for herself and one that put her frequently at odds with Marci.

It was an invitation that turned her eyes away from her homeland. A docent position at Euthalia's newly established Vodacee academy, both a thrilling and concerning prospect. To leave the islands she'd called home for three decades felt like a dangerous step, but to teach in a place that had never been officially exposed to the Numan style was exciting. Setting aside her caution, she set out with a spice trader first to the Crescent Empire and then onto Vodacce.

Personal Goals: Dalora's driving motivation is inspiring greatness in the people she meets. She's trained warriors in the academy on Tyris, schooled children on history at the local orphanage, and helped injured sailors find new work. She would like to be known by future generations as someone who trained great heroes, maybe even worthy royalty. In time, she would like to establish her own academy to train warriors not only in combat but also in life skills. She is all about the concept of 'found family', having grown up an orphan, and wants to build a close-knit family of individuals who deserve it.

Player Goals: I would like to see Dalora's belief that everyone has the potential to be a hero challenged by someone who is seemingly irredeemable. Having to face the fact that her pride is the primary obstacle between her and her goals will make for interesting stories. I'd love to see some exciting combat with interesting set pieces to let her style shine. A challenging romantic encounter with someone she should know better than to get involved with would also be welcome.

Contacts: Some friends become enemies, some enemies become friends.
  • Docent Euthalia Lakedaimon - A respected instructor who is known throughout the island of Lakedaimon and beyond, Euthalia is presently establishing an academy in Vodacce to showcase the Numan dueling style. She was one of Dalora's first instructors and it was her urging that helped her settle on the spear as a weapon of focus. It was also her invitation that convinced Dalora to leave Numa to instruct at the Vodacce academy, and while that choice ended in Dalora's abduction and enslavement she is still eager to see where it goes.
  • 'Skinless' Karak - Karak is sensitive, so much so that people say he isn't just thin-skinned but skinless. He is quick to fight, quick to answer a challenge, and gets in far over his head on a regular basis. The two of them share an excess of pride and they often competed for food and coin as urchins on the streets of Nikiamara, coming to blows over perceived slights on multiple occasions. As they aged she began to see the insecurity and fear that inspired his bravado and the two have carved out a sort of respect for one another despite his current work for the warlord Galatus.
  • Marci Du'Mont - Montaigne born and adamantly unwilling to assimilate, Marci stands out against the populace of Numa due to her specifically Montaigne dress, speech and behaviors. She is nobility back home, using her money and standing to act as patron for budding artists, musicians and artisans throughout the Numan isles. She also uses her contacts and the works of her proteges to smuggle artifacts out of Numa and into the homes of those wealthy enough to afford them. Nikiamara, with its well-preserved ruins, has long been her stomping ground and she funds numerous expeditions to drag objects of worth out of them for her own gain. Dalora frequently worked against her when she was young, interfering with her hired mercenaries and their work robbing Numa of its past, and the two even crossed blades a couple times in recent years. The woman's skill in the Valroux style is considerable and both bear scars for their efforts.

René Rochaix
right-aligned image
Art by Andrey Shishkin
Withdrawn (Sorry, I realized I have too much going on IRL right now)

Name: René Rochaix

Nation: Montaigne

Backgrounds: Criminal / Spy

Starting Story: The betrayal: A three step story that will earn René the 3 point Fencer advantageLa trahison - discover who betrayed René and exposed him as a spy

Arcana:
  • Fortunate - Activate your Virtue to delay an Opportunity or a Consequence by 1 Action.
  • Foolhardy - You receive a Hero Point when your brash, cocky, or reckless actions cause trouble for you and another Hero.

Physical Description: René is a middle aged man of medium height and build with brown eyes and light skin. He has chestnut brown hair that is wavy, curling towards the ends, revealing a single pearl earring in his left ear. He takes special care that his moustache and beard are well-maintained. He often has a slight smile as though bemused by something.

René wears a cavalier hat pinned on one side by a moonstone brooch, topped with a black ostrich plume. His hands are soft and well cared for, protected with fine leather gloves. He wears a white undershirt, a rust orange vest, and a brown leather baldric with a silver buckle, holding a well maintained rapier capped with white topaz. His cloak is of black velour, and he wears tan dueling pants and black suede boots. If you were to meet him in the street, his smile might broaden, but his eyes would remain cool and sardonic: “Bonjour” he would say with a friendly nod.

Personality: René is normally cheerful, but can be aloof with people other than his friends or someone he is trying to charm. His wry smile makes it difficult to tell if he is being playful or mocking. He is rarely angry and considers strong shows of emotion to be somewhat impolite. Despite his playfulness, he is a deeply competitive person. This can be disconcerting to people who know him as a cheerful rake, and who expect him to be lackadaisical; when he makes an effort to do something, he does it exceptionally well. Although he would never admit it, René does not like to be outdone.

René speaks fluent Montaigne, but his Old Théan is tinged with an accent from learning it later in life. He tends to be very expressive with his eyes and he is fond of raising an eyebrow or winking an eye.

René’s favorite thing is sensual experience in all its forms: food, drink, women, art, beautiful clothing, or the thrill of a fight. His least favorite thing is decadence. While he subscribes to the saying “everything in moderation, including moderation”, he despises men and women whose lives have become consumed by a single thing. To René this is the very definition of ugliness and selfishness. Both consciously and unconsciously, this struggle between the need for sensual experience and his revulsion to decadence shapes his life.

Background:

Personal Goals: Until recently, René did not have a well defined ambition except to live a life of pleasure and adventure. However, since his capture, his goal is to find his way back to the Marquis and to his sister and to discover who exposed him as a spy and led to his capture.

Player Goals: I mostly want René to get himself into trouble and see how he finds his way out of it! I am curious to see what direction he evolves morally. He has heard about Los Vagabundos in connection with the Marquis’ work, and could evolve into a revolutionary. Or he could slide, against his own wishes, into moral decay.

Contacts:
  • Lise Rochaix Bescond: René’s sister. She is the only family he has and the only person he truly trusts. He checks on her as often as he can and brings her small presents or money. She also loves René and does not ask too many questions about where his money comes from.
  • Alfred Bescond: Lise’s husband. He does not like René and suspects that he is a criminal. He tries to keep Lise away from René and shelter her from René's influence. René tries to visit his sister when Alfred is not home.
  • The Marquis de Monteil: René’s benefactor and patron. Without the Marquis, René would probably be dead or in prison by now. The Marquis employs René as a spy as part of a resistance movement against the nobility of Montaigne. The two of them have grown close over the years and have a father-son bond.
  • Enzo Pierlot: René's childhood friend. They grew up together, living on the street and stealing to survive. Enzo is in the military now, but the two of them still occasionally see one another and remain loyal to one another.
Secret: René’s greatest fear is that he and his sister will become like their parents. He may not realize it, but his father’s battle with alcoholism is part of his own aversion to people who are consumed by a single thing and his revulsion to decadence.

He also openly wears a swordsman's pin, and is usually heavily armed with a broadsword, a heavy steel gauntlet (Panzerhand), and several pistols.

Personality:

Luka is schooled with the sword but sometimes seems reluctant to use it. In fact, he is not so reluctant, though he will try his utmost to avoid combat against a righteous foe. He is a scholar as much as a swordsman, enjoying intellectual discussion when he finds it, and never able to pass up the chance to investigate a mystery. He's also quite happy carousing and finding simple entertainment with friends, enjoying brotherhood with other warriors, unwinding together after a long day. He follows the Vaticine faith, though he is cautious around the devout, knowing he would be burned at the stake if he was discovered to be a sorcerer. He seldom discusses religion, and never truthfully, for his genuine views are highly heretical. His knowledge of the many supernatural forces other than the church gives him the perspective of Theus and the Prophets as being among many comparable forces, but he gives them allegiance because he sees them as the most benevolent of such forces, though he suspects that even the Prophets and Theus have their own motives that may not be to the benefit of humanity.

Background: Žynys (Soothsayer)/Duelist

Luka was born in a tiny Curonian hamlet, son of a woodcutter and his wife. As a young boy, his family discovered that whenever foreign travelers came through, Luka could understand them almost instinctively. He was sent to the village žynys, Markov, to learn to read, and from then on spent time at the priest's residence every day, learning his letters rapidly, then studying with Markov and reading on his own. He read of a mysterious practice called Sanderis, but before he could read enough to learn the rules of Bargains and the nature of dievas, his precocity was noticed by one of the creatures, who approached him to make a Bargain before the boy could learn of the rules and the dangers.

Over many days, the Dievas promised him great knowledge, and spoke to him of the rich lives scholars lived in the cities. Eventually, Luka decided to make a deal. All he had to do in return for the gift of knowledge was to give his father's axe to the next tinker to travel through the village, to be sharpened, maintained and returned. Luka felt that something was strange about that, but the thought of being able to make his family rich overwhelmed his doubts.

The next peddler to come through was a man named Aleksy; and Luka waited until his father came home from the public house. While his father snored, deep in his cups, the boy ran through the growing twilight, bringing the axe to the tinker. Strangely, the boy didn't need to explain anything, the man was waiting for him, and the tinker was done quickly enough that Luka was able to return quickly, and didn't get caught.

Much to the boy's horror, the next day his father had a horrible accident in the woods, his axe twisting in his hand and cleaving his leg nearly in two, the man bleeding to death as he dragged himself back to the village. Aleksy the tinker, who had also done the bidding of a dievas, fled the village in a panic when he heard what had happened, knowing that the price he'd paid for a favor had killed an innocent man. Luka was horrified, of course, and even moreso when the dievas told him how proud he was that the boy had made a Deal at such a young age, praising him as a prodigy; but reminding him that his deal was only for Knowledge, not wealth; devastating the boy when he realized he'd traded his father's life for something so ephemeral.

Of course, nobody knew Luka had anything to do with it; his mother moved back to her childhood home, and from then on Luka was raised by his mother and grandparents. Luka told noone what had happened, but read all the more intently, learning more about the rules and risks of Sanderis, trying to figure out if any good could come of his horrible mistake; and learning the ultimate purpose of Sanderis, to bring a dievas into the mortal world and destroy it. Other boys might have resolved never to ask the dievas for anything ever again, but he chose instead to make sure that he could achieve enough good to someday counterbalance the patricide he'd committed. The Ratas Circle came, as always somehow knowing that a new Deal had been formed, and his previous mistake was deeply chastised, while his resolve was met with approval; and he was given further education in the ways of Sanderis.

When Luka got old enough to begin thinking seriously about his own future, he knew that to achieve great good in the world he would have to leave his village. He started travelling, managing to pass for closer to adult than he truly was, wandering at random, doing good deeds when he could; mastering many languages, and learning much about the world. He ended up in Eisen, where he was in the right place at the right time to help a young nobleman who was accosted by a rogue Liebewerk. The two became friends, Otto (the young noble) assuming he was a student at the nearby duelist academy; but when he found out otherwise, he arranged a scholarship through family connections, so his new friend could attend with him.

Luka enjoyed his time at the academy; learning what camaraderie was for the first time, fitting into the culture of entitled young warriors by keeping quiet about his own humble origins, compensating for his lack of formal education with worldliness and his haphazard but extensive reading. He gradually awakened to the deadliness of the Eisen night, and deciding he wanted to empower himself to fight the creatures that lived in it, he struck a new Deal, for Darkness. This time, his part of the deal was to "subject himself to a creature of the night." Luka had noticed but carefully not acknowledged that certain advanced students met at night, in secret; but knowing those who met, he felt sure that they did not have a nefarious purpose. To fulfill his bargain, he joined them, and ended up swearing fealty to the Kreuzritter, the secret knights who patrol the darkness of Eisen; submitting himself to an unexpected sort of creature of darkness, but fulfilling the Deal.

Upon becoming a member of Die Kreuzritter and graduating from the Academy, Luka started wandering again. Aware of the society's need for Dracheneisen, he realized he had an advantage in the search for such things. So he travelled across Theah, pursuing a cache at a location his dievas had named. Relying a little too much on his bargain, Luka ended up on a ship to a mysterious location, getting closer to his goal – but rather than as a passenger, he was in the brig, in irons.

Personal Goals:

Luka, above all, wants to turn the power of the evil and inhuman against itself, to do good. In particular, using the power of his dievas to aid him in slaying monsters and protecting the innocent, until he eventually completes its name, bringing it into this world to be slain in turn.

Player Goals:

I just want to swash bucklers and have fun.

Contacts:

Violetta

A beautiful young Vodacce woman, Luka doesn't know her last name. He met her in his travels, as he met many people; but then he met her again, and again, seemingly at random. She is wealthy, at least enough to travel in a carriage with a bodyguard, and she recently gave Luka a ride over the mountains from Eisen into Montaigne, part of his journey in pursuit of Dracheneisen. He was surprised to meet her in Eisen, as before it had always been in Vodacce or Rzeczpospolita. It was the sixth time they'd met, but the first time they'd done more than talk. Their time together in her plush carriage was very pleasant, and she spoke ramblingly of fate in a way that convinced him she was a Sorte Strega, but he didn't let on that he'd guessed that. They went their separate ways in Sices, and her parting words were, "We will meet a seventh time. Whether we meet in light or in darkness will determine both our fates." She refused to say more, just waving at him from her carriage window as it headed south.

Otto von Brahm

A handsome and dashing young Eisen noble, Luka saved his life and the two are as close as brothers now. Otto owes Luka his life, but Luka feels that Otto did the same for him, making it possible for him to pursue his dream of confronting inhuman horrors, by getting him in the academy first, and Die Kruezritter later. They pursue their own paths now, but both work toward the same goal, and they will always call each other "brother".

Alexy the Peddler

The man who was so integral to Luka's childhood tragedy is still at large. His dievas succeeded at turning him into a villain, but he remembers that he wasn't always this way, and he blames Luka for his downfall, and for the fact that he is now hunted by the Valytuvas. His path crossed Luka's in Montaigne, their dievas working together to trick the younger man into joining with a company of travelers, who were in fact slavers that shipped him off to the east...

Secret:

Kind of spilled already, but he's a sorcerer in Die Kreuzritter, so he's very careful.
