Life under the Darken Heavens

This thread explores how each race is generally treated, and viewed as, in The Endless Night. I will go into detail on how years after the event of the obelisks touching down on Ahmaria affected each individual race's way of life. Instead of having everything on one massive post with spoiler buttons concealing the information, I am going to have seven different post pertaining to each individual race.

Dwarf

Before The Endless Night: The mighty dwarvern race were by far the most influential than the other races. Their mountain homeland had stretched across much of Ahmaria's surface. It was home to many natural resources that the Dwarves had exclusive control over. The most abundant of these resources were metal ore, ranging from iron ore all the way to a hidden treasure trove of adamantium that only the dwarves knew where to find it. With such a monopoly on these resources, the Dwarves applied their inherent craftsmanship and had forged superior weapons and with their knowledge of stonework had advance the application of architecture many years before everybody else. The Dwarves were by far the most technological advance of the the seven races of Ahmaria. From the construction of the mighty sentinels that protected their realms called Golems to the innovation of firearms, the Dwarves were both respected and feared.

Before all the races on Ahmaria were united under one flag, the Dwarves were very much a warrior race despite their many innovations. They waged many battles against their sworn enemies, the Elves. They supplied their armies with siege weaponry and cannons, weapons that the Elves had to learn quickly on how to counter. However even though the Dwarves had technology on their side, wars raged against the Elves often led to stalemates due to the spellcasting prowess of the Elves. However this did not stop the Dwarves from waging constant warfare against their hated foe.

After years of warfare and strife and the call for unification was a whisper in the wind, the Dwarves eventually managed to swallowed their pride and agreed to meet with the other races. The peace negotiations had took place in the chambers of the Dwarf king Aerl. The events that took place after the peace talks were that of true unification. The Dwarves and the Elves had put aside their hatred towards each other and decided to learn about one in another, which caused magnificent buildings that house every school of magic called Academies to be constructed. The Dwarves had shared their knowledge allowing the other races to advance their technology.

The Endless Night: When the obelisks fell upon Ahmaria, much was destroyed and many had died but among these things were the Dwarven sense of pride. Seeing their well constructed buildings shatter upon the impact of an obelisk had dampen their spirits. The mighty architecture of the Dwarves did not stand up to these obelisks. Many of the Dwarves who decided to venture from their mountain homesteads died due to the overpowering malevolent aura the obelisk seem to emit. Most of the remaining Dwarves followed their brethren back into the depths of Ahmaria's mountains. There they try to reconstruct the might of the Dwarf Empire once again. However those who remained topside were shunned away from their homes and forced to make a new life among the wasteland. These surface Dwarves usually are employed in towns as blacksmiths and the such. Though they are strangers in this world as they are in their old home in the mountains. However most of these Dwarves decided to adapt to their new life and make do with what they can. Some work as merchants, most work as blacksmiths, and there are those who blended well into towns and become heads of the criminal underworld while others have found their path as clerics of churches in villages that were set up by Dwarves.

Elf

Before The Endless Night: Deep in the woods of Ahmaria, a civilization flourished. This civilization was the Elves. With their inherent magical aptitude, they explored the realms of magic and were for the most part, the first practitioners of magic and the first ones to bring it into existence. Magic was deeply tied to the Elven way of life. Their natural affinity with nature allowed them to explore the applications of magic and thus allowed them to help form the foundations of the arcane schools of magic. Without the Elves' contribution to magic, those who possessed magic ability would for the most part run rampant and be reckless with their power.

The days before the call of unification was answered, the Elves lived in isolation in their woodland homes, preferring to continue their existence in peace. However such an ideal world did not happen for the Elves. The marching armies of the Dwarves slowly caused Elves to find homes elsewhere. This small scale migration eventually caused Elves to blend with human society while those who remained at their homes defended their land against the Dwarves. Within human society, the elves spread their knowledge of magic adding onto the humans already established practices of magic. The Elves served as mentors guiding the magical adepts of humans on their road to perfecting their use of magic. This led to the finding of the academies.

When peace was finally declared, the Elves who integrated with Humans remained so. The construction of the Academies by the Dwarves allowed these Elves to have a place that they could safely call their own. Here in the Academies, they taught promising pupils along with the Gnomes. However those who had remained in their homeland slowly disappeared from existence. Their whole society fading to rumors. Even the Elves who took to the cities of Humans, lost contact with their kin.

The Endless Night: The day of the obelisks falling from the heavens was a catastrophe, leaving the once beautiful Ahmaria in ruin. The Elves were not exceptions to beauty being scarred. The lost of most of the Academies damped the spirits of the Elves causing the few remaining Academies to be the homes of these city dwelling Elves. The only places these Academies existed in the waste was behind the walls of a Sanctuary and behind those same walls is where the majority of the Elf population remain. However there were many who braved the waste to rebuild the legacy of the Academies thus becoming the head officials of Magic Guilds or Elemental Circles. Though some left the walls of a Sanctuary to help find a way to revitalize nature and to redevelop that close bond to the natural world they once had. Some of the younger Elves left to find adventure while some left to act as historians and record the changes of this new barren Ahmaria. However there some Elves who have populated the wasteland who were not from a Sanctuary, giving some sense of hope that those Elves who had vanished, actually still exist.
