Goblin Dare

Grimlac's devious smile remained as the crowding goblins' shouts of "HIDE OR GET CLUBBED!" trailed upon his ears. He had to admit that this dare was one of his personal favorite passtimes by far. With a chance to show of his talents, the goblin rushed forth with a speedy retreat. As he progressed, Grimlac twisted and turned around bend and corner; checking this way and that for the means of a proper concealment. Just as his mind began to race with panic, that familiar grin widened upon the rogue's face as he remembered the perfect spot.

'Just outside the village, near the belly of Brinestump Marsh is my mudz pitz...' , Grimlac thought with anxiousness as he began to run headlong for the trees and terrain that outskirted Licktoad Village. "If I'ze hurry then perhaps theyz will look elsewherez."

Moving swiftly, he located his spot and Grimlac coated himself with the mud before laying perfectly still in wait; the light of red irises was all to be seen.

Grimlac lies low, comfortable in the knowledge that none in the village had eyes sharp enough to find him, or feet fast enough to follow him. Through sheer amount of searchers and luck a couple of goblins blundered through the swamp close to where the rogue was hidden. After stumbling around for a few minutes, randomly clubbing bushes and small puddles the trio start squabbling and fighting each other. "You said he loves dis spot!" "Nuh uh, dat was Dink who said dat!" "Imma clobber the both of you!"

Watching the fight from his hiding place Grimlac laughed quietly, yearlings were so stupid! After ten minutes a horn blew, signaling the end of the Dare. Sneaking back into the village the rogue presents his unclubbed face to Gutwad, grinning widely. The chief whispers something to Slorb and once again the Advisor looks downtrodden, but quickly hops off the Teeter Chair to avoid being pushed into the mud again. "You get Sticky Ring for one day, don't lose it in mud!" he says after prying a ring off his fat fingers with much twisting and cursing. Now without his magic ring Slorb has a very hard time getting his bulk up onto the Teeter Chair again, and his arms twitch heavily as he hangs off the side. "Perhaps we should retire for the night Mighty Girthness, so as to let our champions rest for their quest?" Slorb whimpers, more concerned about not falling than the welfare of you five. With a nod from Gutwad the chair goblins return the Teeter Chair to the Moot House, arriving at the party half an hour later to stuff themselves full of cider apples and snakes.

The party goes on into the night, goblins dancing, singing and fighting until the last embers of the great fire die out. You were hoping for some fireworks, but the chief must be saving them all for himself! Ahh how nice it must be to be chief, maybe one day you too will be big and fat and get carried around everywhere.

OOC:You have been lent a Ring of Climbing for one day!

Next post can be you roleplaying out the rest of the feast, talking to other party members or just heading to bed. Include a DC 10 Fort check with your post please.

Cooky grumbles his way through the rest of the feast, overseeing the cooking pit and kicking around the unfortunate few assistants close enough to feel his wrath. As the feast-food starts to run low, Cooky simply grabs a roasting marsh-rat and retires to his tent, waiting until tomorrow and plotting his eventual revenge against that foul, evil, dastardly piglet. But as the fires die down, he doesn't feel so good......

Squicky enjoyed the rest of the night in relative peace. Sure, her stomach was a bit squelchy after all those icky bullyslugs, but that wasn't anything that some good goblin cooking couldn't fix. And boy, did Squicky make sure she was well fed! Eggs, snakes, shrooms - most, if not all, of the juicy foods sent the way of the gutsy goblin was devoured in almost as little time as it had been presented. All of that eating must've made Squicky hungry, and she wasn't one for ignoring the needs of a pleasantly plump belly!

She stuffed herself for the rest of the night, slowly becoming accustomed to the sickness that had accompanied the success of the dare. She shared tidbits with her fellow goblins, telling them stories that scared or enthralled, sometimes both, with as little effort as walking. When stocked up on Cider Apples, Squicky was one for talking, and she managed to gather quite the (limited) crowd in the space around her. Her face was bare, mask safely tucked away under her old robes and the Incredibly Useful Robe she often left hanging around her shoulders as some kind of mantle. As the night passed and she found purchase in her home, most of her admirers left behind at the spit save for one, she found herself being quite content after the all-consuming party of the eve. In fact, apart from the gentle bubbling in her tummy, Squicky could almost say that she was feeling better than ever.

Knicky was as happy as Squealy Nord in his mud wallow on a blazing hot day. Gorge of Gluttons was hers to use, even if only for a bit?! This definitely ranked in her top three best things ever category (alongside the time she found, killed, cooked, and ate an entire wild boar without having to share with anyone, and the time she'd caught one of those never bedamned sneaky enough halflings asleep, unaware, and at the mercy of her blades). So, Knicky ate, drank, and was pretty damned merry. Of course, the others were savvy enough to stay well clear of Knicky when she had a new blade, and as a result, Gorge of Gluttons did not taste fresh blood that night.

Eata took some time to practice whipping things with his new scorpion whip. Soon he grew bored of aiming for stones and started trying to trip people before they could scramble away from Knicky's path.

Oh, the squeals ... which reminded Eata, Nord was awfully fun to watch while he was excited.

Eventually, even the spectacles of the party and potency of the cider couldn't keep Eata running. He found a comfy mud patch and curled up to sleep.

Grimlac stared in awe at the shininess of his newly lent Sticky Ring; taking in its sight much like he had the Giant’s tooth many morns ago. As the night progressed further, the rogue started for his cave as he cautiously slipped the band upon a finger of one hand while the other finished its delighting in the festivities of many rotten apples. The consequences of which seemed to have a more lasting effect when his head finally came to rest.

‘Tomorrowz we getz fireworkz!’, he thought with a slightly drunken hiccup as sleep finally came.

The five of you wake up in the morning, some excited, some nervous...Grimlac and Cooky are hungover and have a bit of extra trouble getting out of bed, whilst Squicky is still feeling the affects of the bullslugs on her stomach and totters off to throw up in a corner before heading to the Moot House. Slorb steps outside to greet you, holding a horse hide bag of fireworks. "Chief says mighty warriors need mighty weapons and you can have fireworks, but you have to bring back more or don't bother coming back at all, got it?" After pausing to glare at Grimlac and Squicky the advisor shuffles back into the Moot House and you are left alone.

Being just after dawn not many goblins in the village are up yet, other than the squawking babies in their cages, and you grab some leftovers from last night before taking a look at the map. It's simple to understand, and tells that the fireworks stash is less than a two hour walk away. First you must walk north until you reach the creek and follow it west until you reach something called 'Spooky Rock' and then 'listen for the waves'. With nothing left to do but set off you squabble for awhile over who gets to hold what and who the chief's favourite is and then you set off. These things must be done in order.

The marsh itself is difficult to navigate, even for those born and raised in its muck. Several times deep stretches of water had to be skirted, or thick tangles of stinging nettles. After an hour of trudging along in (mostly) silence Squicky suddenly stops stock still and holds out her arm. Two inches from her face is a nearly invisible web spanning between two trees, Knicky noticing one near her immediately after. The five of you look up into the trees, trying to spot anything but see nothing until it has already moved.

A dark shape bursts forth from the foilage of a leatherbark tree, running along one thick branch and curls up its abdomen to point at you. It is a large spider, Lotslegs Eats Goblin Babies Many! She fires a web at Eyeball, but it is aimed slightly too high and hits a nearby bush with a soft wooshing noise. The bush is instantly wrapped in a very sticky web and is glued to the floor by it. You have entered the territory of Lotslegs Eats Goblin Babies Many and she means to eat you! Thankfully her first web missed and you aren't down a fighter, as this spider is twice as tall as you and much wider.

OOC:Muggins ignore what I said before about being sickened, for sake of ease I'm just making one blanket effect for you and the others. Grimlac, Cooky and Squicky all have a minor sickness, -1 to hit and -1 on initiative until tomorrow morning.

You have been given 2 Desnan Candles, 4 Paper Candles and 1 Skyrocket, rules for these items are here. Paper Candles can be stuffed into a pocket (so one person could hold all 4), but a person can hold 2 Desnan Candles stuffed into his pack, or 1 Skyrocket. So work out in OOC who's holding what, i.e. 2 people could have the Desnan Candles and Skyrocket whilst the others split the Paper Candles.

First combat! You don't have to post in order, but do keep in mind I may have to change your actions if they do not fit. Generally what I'll do is get a post from each of you, then post the results for the entire round, signalling the start of the next round. Please remember to link to your rolls somewhere, either in the post or in a fieldset OOC. Lotslegs is 10m up in the air on a large branch, one could climb up there and join her if they wish (but there is only space for one person) it would take you a DC 15 Climb check as a move action, but your weapon will still be sheathed. As such you would be on the branch with a standard action to spend on drawing your weapon, then waiting to attack till round 2, any damage taken or attempting to move along the branch will require a Acrobatics check to keep your balance. If it matters for skills, she is medium in size.

Squicky had been taking quite the peaceful walk before the spider showed up. Even then, it wasn't exactly the nerve-wracking experience one would expect it to be. Ot at least, it wasn't, but then Squisky realised just what it was that they were up against and she shivered. Lots Legs Eats Goblins Many was a force to be feared from clan legend alone, so seeing the very being that had spurred those myths before her had what some would call the expected result. She shivered, opened her mouth to a slack-jawed position and stared at the creature.

'Is so huge!' Squicky thought to herself, grunting as she shifted the bag on her back around slightly. Inside were a few things, most rather useless and only little trinkets she had picked up over the years, but there was something of interest she wanted. She couldn't possibly scale the tree and fight the spider, nor was it likely they would find a way to escape - if they did, they would crash into another one of these deadly, invisible webs. Their only option was to fight, or die as the case may be.

"Don't run! It picks us off if we run!" yelled the goblin warrior, intending to take her trusty dogslicer out from her pack. The thing had served her well on many occasions, killing its fair share of other things, but Squicky wasn't sure if it would be fit for killing a thing of this size. Even if it could, she couldn't reach it ... there was no way she was climbing that tree, either! So Squicky bent down to the ground and found the largest rock she could find, hefting it up with one hand and judging the distance between her and the spider. There was a moment of pause as the goblin considered whether or not she wanted to get such attention from the beast, knowing full well how deadly it would be to her health should she die, but Squicky cared not for thought in the middle of battle. Squicky cared for action.

And so she threw, with all the force she could muster.

CombatFree Actions: Speak.
Swift Actions: None.
Move Actions: Pick up a stone from the ground.
Standard Actions: Throw the stone at Lots Legs Eats Goblins Many.
Full Actions: None.

Cooky wasn't used to being snuck up on by a beast, usually he was the one doing the sneaking. He wouldn't let a mere big-leg get him in trouble! With a dash and a jump he scrabbled to grab hold of the tree trunk and haul himself up....only to find his grip slipping and falling flat on his rump in the mud. Thinking better of the attempt, Cooky unslings his sting-darts and starts looking for good spots to run to.

OOC
Move Action: Failed Climb Check
Standard Action: Ready shortbow

Knicky swallowed against the lump of fear in her throat. She'd known all about Lotslegs, but knowing and seeing were two very different things. After a moment, she gave a shake to clear her thoughts. Okays, howz I do diz? I can climb dat tree, but Lotslegs makes any of uz who tries minzemeat. We gots ta knocks her down here... Ha, I gots it! Rummaging in her pack, she pulled out one of the paper candles she'd taken after they finished fighting and arguing over who got what. She cackled through her rotten teeth.

"Heys Lotzlegz, I gots a surpise fors ya! She lit the fuse, and with a hopskip shuffled to the side and tossed it, easily landing it at Lotslegs' feet.

ActionsMove action: Move to the diagonal lower right corner next to Lotslegs.
Standard Action: Readied Action - toss Paper Candle at Lotslegs feet (delay until lotslegs has moved or end of Lotslegs turn, whichever happens first)

"You rotter, you couldn't hit the broadside of a horse! How'd you like to be octodead!?" Eata stands his ground and draws his bow. As he lets fly, he hurls insults at the beast.

Gimlac spots the monstrous spider, Lots Legs Eats Goblins Many, atop the nearby tree's branch as its adhesive web came flying down amongst them. The rogue drew his fingers upon the string of his bow in reaction as he fit an arrow into place and moved more closely into range. Leaning his head to the side and closing one eye, he loosens his arrow just as the spider is drawn into sight. The goblin then exhales as the vibrations of his short bow’s cord suddenly halt; telling whether his aim proved hit or miss.

'Hmm...How boutz a spider'z eyes to add to my collection!', he thought with calculating determination. "Stupidz spider, i'll killz you!"

Before Lotslegs can shoot another web, Knicky grabs a paper candle from her pocket and hurls it up into the tree. It bounces on a few branches and then settles into a bunch of leaves nearby Lotslegs, sending up a small curl of smoke and a hissing noise. Whipping around at the sudden movement, the spider hisses at Knicky and fires a web at her, missing the goblin entirely. Whilst Cooky attempts to scale the tree, Grimlac looses an arrow which thuds just above the cook's hand, causing him to fall in fright and hit the mucky ground with a thump. Muggins and Eyeball fared better, one damaging an eye with a rock, and the other sinking an arrow deep into Lotslegs side.

OOC:Paper Candle will go off at the start of Knicky's turn, and Lotslegs will pass the fortitude check and be fine. Lotslegs has taken 6 points of damage, but seems to be doing okay.

Cooky scrambles back from the tree, getting away from the hissing spider, so far unnoticed. Getting hold of himself, the goblin chef draws and arrow and takes careful aim at the beast, only to let go with the wrong hand and get smacked in the face as the bow flies back.

OOC20' move diagonal away from the spider
Natural 1 attack roll. Yayyyyy
