Transformers...But Which System?

I've been rewatching all of the Transformers movies on Prime lately, and I'm getting some ideas for a game I'd eventually (read: way down the freaking road) like to run. I dislike what the movies keep doing to the franchise, what with consistently ret-conning the history (Megatron is trapped in ice for a few thousand years, but then the Fallen comes out of nowhere to say he sent him there for some reason, but then you find out about the pillars and the moon mission, and so on). It just seems like the writers of the movies just didn't want to take one storyline and run with it. And that's bothersome to me.

Anyhow, I've got an idea for a game set on Cybertron, just after the discovery/invention of the Transformation Cogs. In the continuity I wish to create, the cogs themselves are one of the reasons for the war (in addition to the War of the Primes, and the wars fought for energon/rebuilding Cybertron). Normal canon shows this as being developed by the Autobots, but in my own continuity a Decepticon spy steals the technology, which gives the Decepticons the initial upper hand in the war. Our heroes end up with experimental cogs, giving them an edge that the Decepticons don't know they have. Anyhow, without going to much further into detail, the Autobots still lose the war, flee Cybertron, and come to Earth looking for a new home. And for a new source of energon to control the cogs (as well as finish actually inventing them).

So what's my issue here? The system to use for such a game. There is a Transformers RPG out there, but I'll be darned if I pay $50 for the core rulebook. I'm familiar with MnM3E, but not to the extent needed to go through and say "This needs changing" or "this is cool" or what-have-you. I've tried looking online for any hacks for MnM3E, as well as D&D 5E, and I can't really find anything. I'm striking out!

So here I come to the community to ask: Does anyone know of any systems that have actual rules put forth, whether homebrew or canon, for a Transformers game? Has anyone taken the time themselves to hack a system for this genre that they would be willing to impart upon me? Am I shooting a laser canon at the wrong building?

Could the Mekton RPG be adapted? It's mecha/anime based. Sample sheets would be at R Talsorian Games.

There is a Humble Bundle available for the next 7 days for The Transformers Roleplaying Game by Renegade Game Studios. I don't know anything about it, but it's there for like $20-25 if you don't want the physical items ($50ish if you do).
