Buy first, race adjustments later.

And skipping 4e says great things about your standards and sanity.

4e is built like the base system for an mmo.

There are point buy calculators on line... be sure you use one for pathfinder, and not 3.5 (they are different).

And yes, as stated... buy your points, and assign them where you wish. Then, add your racial stats/adjustments. Finally, add your level adjustments (ability score improvements via levels achieved).

It truly was. My friends and I gave it a chance but quit using the system several sessions in and went back to 3.5. I could see what WOTC was trying to do but it didn't work out, at least for my gaming group at the time.

That was my experience, back in my school days my d&d friends went to play the newest system every time. I liked 3.5 from a distance but there was so much material to use that it was difficult to get newer folks in. So I changed over to PF, ran a few games in person and I am stuck hither forevermore.

I would greatly like to be a part of a Pathfinder game, and this one is interesting to me. Sigald is a warhammer-wielding, hard-charging bashing-type fighter. Looking into feats like Power Attack, Improved Overrun, and the like.

CHARACTER CONCEPT
left-aligned image

Name: Sigald Forgeguard
Race: Dwarf
Class(es): Fighter 7
Age: 65
Alignment: Lawful Good
Deity: Torag. He prays every morning when he rises and every night before he lays his head down to sleep. He tries to time them with the rising and falling of the sun (what he calls "the lighting and ebbing of the forge").

Description:
Sigald is a stout, weathered looking dwarf with shaggy dark brown hair and a full beard that falls to just above his waist. Multiple braids with simple bands of iron adorn his beard, and his warm brown eyes are crinkled with crow's feet. A large scar runs from the top of his forehead down to his left cheek just above his beard line, and a crescent-shaped scar runs from his right eyebrow and into his beard near his mustache. His large nose is flat and has clearly been broken many times before. He is muscular even for a dwarf, and quite broad in the shoulders. He is suited in intricate heavy mithral armor, with a mithral shield on his arm. The shield is emblazoned with the crest of Clan Forgeguard - an anvil with two crossed hammers behind it. His warhammer is also unique-looking as the head is stylized to look like a powerful fist.

Background:
Raised in the traditional teachings and arts of war of Clan Forgeguard, Sigald had a fairly typical dwarven childhood. He spent his times learning the craft and tradition of the clan, his duties and values, his faith in Torag, and the ways of the warrior. Both his father Jarnoff and his mother Freygir worked in the smithy and they taught the young Sigald all they knew of the art of blacksmithing. Sigald was swinging a hammer as soon as he could stand, and he often put in many hours working the bellows or assisting his parents whenever he wasn't allowed to practice himself. When he wasn't working the forge, he was trained in the warrior arts of Clan Forgeguard, primarily designed to protecting their forges and clan castle against any who wished to impose upon their freedom. Sigald was a quick student and trained hard, but always found it difficult to stand shield to shield with his clansmen. On many occasions he would often rush headlong into the fray, being the only task he was reproved for during his training.

Initially content with protecting his clan home, after completing his warrior training and being accepted as a man into his clan, Sigald was assigned courier duties by their king, Sturnbold, to the outside world. He and two other dwarves, his childhood friends Vigg and Arngar, were to escort a document of great importance to another dwarven clan, Clan Battleborn, many miles away. As the three dwarves approached the base of their mountain, the world suddenly exploded in a monstrous earthquake. The ground shook and split open. Trees and rocks fell everywhere. And then, the whole mountain collapsed. Both Vigg and Arngar were killed, and the entire castle of Clan Battleborn fell into the earth, with none ever heard of again. The only survivor from this great earthquake was Sigald, who amazingly survived unscathed.

Returning home to report his findings, the clan priests dubbed that due to his survival Sigald had been marked by Torag as a dwarf of interest to him. Such a deed had only happened once before in Clan Forgeguard history, and their archivists discovered that the dwarf before him, one Orngeim, was sent into the world for tasks of great importance. The clan priests conducted a ritual that night to determine his purpose - they circled around Sigald who prayed in the middle as they rhythmically chanted and struck their anvils with their hammers. After a few hours, there was a flash of flame before him and the following message carved in stone (translated from Dwarven) - "WHAT YOU SEEK IS IN THE OUTSIDE WORLD. GOOD WORKS SHALL LEAD YOU TO YOUR PURPOSE." His destiny now set, Sigald knew his lot in life was no longer to be within the halls of Clan Forgeguard. He packed up his belongings, hugged his parents goodbye, and struck out in the world. He still frequently visits his clan stronghold but rarely stays more than a day or two at a time.

Sigald has developed a bit of a reputation as a tough and reliable warrior for hire with strong principles and a strong right arm. Tales of his success include saving the small village of Glenhaven from a band of marauding orcs (though some tales say he alone did it, he is quick to say he had the help of other men-at-arms), rescuing a young girl lost in the wastelands, and most recently destroying a nest of trolls with other hired swords that were preying upon travelers to Whiteridge Castle. Sigald is known for rushing headlong into the fray, smashing aside foes with both body and hammer as he uses his great strength and courage. He is known as a generous and serious individual with a strict code of honor and true to his word. Sigald often charges half of what his competitors do, as for him life is not about the money. For him it is something more - life is his forge, and for metal to harden and become flawless they need the fire and strife of difficulty to achieve this forging of the self.

Indeed, so many half breeds. Let's throw a regular human into the mix.
App
Name: Valens of Davenhold
Race: Human
Class: Oracle 7 (Life mystery, clouded vision curse), prestiging next level into Holy Vindicator
Age: 19
Alignment: NG
Deity: Pharasma, the Lady of Graves. He prays in the quiet stillness of midnight

Description: Valens is fair-skinned with his hair a dirty blonde. His eyes, though, are seem dull and sightless, but they follow along with a uniquely intense gaze. His countenance and air have an otherworldy but reassuring feel. Even his touch is oddly soothing. Once you get past this initial reaction, you notice the perpetual smile in his odd eyes, characteristic of his indefatigable cheer. He wears a hooded cloak over a breastplate and a helm. On his back rest a shield and a mace at his side. On his shield is born the crest of the Lady of Graves, which he carries with curious cheer.

Valens is the unwavering optimist, an indefatigable ray of hope among his companions. Far from 'bubbly' or 'peppy' <shudder>, Valens is always seen with a smile in the grimmest predicaments. His good cheer is terribly infectious, & at times downright inspiring. This is not to say that he doesn't get angry or indignant; it just takes a lot for him to do so. Beyond seeing the best of a bad situation, Valens also looks for the best in others. He tries to urge & encourage others, but he is possessed of the tact to be subtle & gentle about it. That said, death and the dark don't seem to phase him. "The dark of womb and tomb are both comforts at the ends of our life. Why should we fear it during our middle?"

There are no arcane casters on that list. There's a whole lot of divine half casters though.

You're right. I think, there is no lack of divine spellcasters anymore.
Applications with other classes are also welcome!

I would have been an arcane caster, my preference is arcanist and sorcerer for playing, however Heck, arcanist isn't even a class in Core and APGneither of those options get anything interesting within the rulebook constraints. That and I had a concept I wished to play with that does not work with a sorcerer.

I think I'm the only one with no spellcasting ability at all.

I expanded my background a bit, wasn't happy with the first one (a bit too vanilla) but I like this one much more.
