Picturing the organizer of this little expedition making marriage a requirement and arranging such for any who weren't before they departed. A bunch of newly weds who have never met each other lumped together and going along to laugh at how these relationships all play out.

Do we get some initial funds for equipment and supplies, and does each couple have a wagon or just one collective wagon?

Sounds good and no rush on details was just curious how it all might work, I am interested to see how this game will play out as it's not quite your typical style. Alright off to consider how the Oaken's see things, for other completed apps.

Hi, Queen!

Postimg interest!

I will read the thread more carefully to grab a hold on Q&A.

Here comes a builder!

Cheers!

PS: Gee! It's 5e, not Pathfinder.

I have never played 5e before. Is that a problem?

Some good options for others interested would like be a stone mason, farmer, fisher (think I saw we are beside a river), Rancher, Leather worker, would all be awesome choices to consider to continue to get a diverse skill set.

Nope, not a problem. I'll help where ever needed.

Riiiiggghhtt.... Farmers. Fishers. Food production. Man. We should probably have thought a bit more about that. If Alvan and Ester have their way everyone is eating rabbits, roots and acorns.

I knew Alvan would have his own herb garden. If we don't get a farmer we can probably just all work communal fields. Figure most country folk know a bit.

Yup I would imagine initial there will be a fair bit of communal efforts maybe even first structure would like be a communal lodge/hall type deal till individual structures can be built. Easier to stand watch, share duties, defend, keep warm, etc.

Depending on initial funds a few chickens could go a long way as well

Pietro and Sofia DeiMari (Work in Progress)
Theme: Pachebel's Canon, by Ímpetus Madrid Baroque Ensemble

right-aligned image
Don't worry, love, you have last names for the both of us...

Pietro DeiMari

A bon viviant with both knack and taste for invention.

Character Parameters
Name: Pietro (no last name, so he chose "DeiMari")
Race: Human
Age: 29
Alignment: Lawful Good
Class: Specialist (Engineer) lvl 3
Function: Builder

Sofia DeiMari

A noble-born with egalitarian ideals.

Character Parameters
Name: Sofia Lucrezia Maria Pignatelli Doria Giustiniani Di Mezzo i Baux
Race: Human
Age: 17
Alignment: Neutral Good
Class: Specialist (Artist) lvl 2 / Specialist (Judge) lvl 1
Function: Artisan/Sculptress (eventually judge, if it comes to that)

Personality
Piero
A bon-vivant does not have to be a disorderly person in any way. Indeed, there are those who like to savor what life has of best to the minimal details, taking pleasure to the state of an art. This is Piero DeiMari. His artistic spirit has nothing of the wild nature usually attributed to people of great creativity and aesthetic sense, but, on the very contrary, his is the love for detail, symmetry and compliance, but as an art, not as an obsession. Otherwise, he is gentle, happy and spirited, always holding an impactful one-liner for the proper (or, sometimes, improper) occasion.

Flaw: Perfectionism. Piero will prefer not to finish is finishing means failing to deliver his purpose.
Fear: Piero fears that his past may come back to him. Up to the first years of youth, Piero has lived in poverty, vulnerable to the rule of bandits and pirates. He does not want it back.

Sofia
Those of blue blood are known for their superficiality and their love for their own pride above their lives and ideals (when such even exist), but Sofia is the very opposite of that. A woman of honor in its deepest sense, she takes the welfare of all as the main goal for any person in life and an irrevocable duty for any society. As a consequence of that, she can be quite cold and calculating when facing those who oppress and nothing outrages her more than slavery.

Flaw: Strictness of conduct nearly to the point of fanaticism. She will not tolerate oppression.
Fear: She fears the loss of the freedom she gained with her escape from home.

Both Piero and Sofia love each other to the point of self-sacrifice. It is, indeed, a case of classical love that they both wish does not end in the classical fashion...

Background
left-aligned image

here are those born in cradles of gold and silver and there are those born in the dirt of the road. Sometimes, the winds of life carry them trough converging paths and, by means of such encounter, produce marvels of either cruelty, leadership or love. This is precisely the case of two souls whose paths, converged by destiny, led them together towards the untamed wilderness that was set to be their home.

It all begun in a rather large town in the Eastern Coast, a thriving commercial hub not large enough to be properly called a city, but significantly crowded, due to its severe tendencies towards the black market. There lived one side of this story: Pietro, a rejected boy, son of a courtesan with no-one-knows-who. It may seem the beginning of a sad story, but that is not quite what it is, as the young street boy, full of life and creativity, was quickly adopted by a hard-working couple who had no children of their own. The woman, a servant to a local noble, the man, a jack of all trades, earning life by fixing literally anything: furniture, windmills, paintings needing restoration, fancy plaster ornaments for the walls of the rich... anything you might find broken.

Bread was hard-earned and life was difficult, which demanded the boy to begin early in his stepfather's trade. Once he learned to paint a wall, then to sand a wooden chair, then to saw replacement parts for a bed... a few years later, he was a fully fledged apprentice to the town's factotum, one that already begun to show remarkable talent and eye for detail. Indeed, some of the clients begun to request his work instead of his father's, which led the man to be able to breathe a little between to tasks, something that gave the boy a lot of happiness and activity.

Pietro's fame grew with every new object fixed, but that was not bound to end here. Born of experience of fixing and desire for exploration, the need to create grew inside him and, one day, instead of fixing a chair, he presented his client with another one, far more comfortable than the original. It happens that the client, a bookbinder of not too much wealth, held a personal attachment for his former chair, which belonged to his deceased father and the matter ended with both the chair and the boy thrown out of the house and into the streets... right in front of a noble couple who passed by. The man felt outraged by the mere presence of the peasant, but, when the boy took his chair to leave, the noble's wife saw the quality of the item in his hands and inquired him about its origin. That was the beginning of a long-lasting commercial relation that dramatically eased the life of Pietro and his adoptive parents.

For two years, the rich couple, owners of a small fleet of ships that traveled from overseas carrying anything, from rare woods to illegal substances, would request the boy's talent in designing and building the most varied objects: chairs, beds, a system to open and close the very large house's curtains, a sealing for the roof and anything else their eager minds could come up with and their heavy purses could pay for. For two years, Pietro entered and left that house, observing the various objects of fine art... especially the couple's daughter, Sofia, which is precisely the second side of this story.

Sofia Lucrezia Maria Pignatelli Doria Giustiniani Di Mezzo i Baux, in the flower of her 16 years of age, was a remarkably clever young lady, which was a necessity, since their parents would forcibly demand her to be such. They wished to use her very blood as a merchandise, an element of bargain with which they could buy the heart of the town's judge, a man on whose hands their trade hanged, as royal authorities begun to question the non-declared part of their ships manifests... and that started to make bribes rise to unbearable hights. Indeed, the lady was trained to be charming, clever and attractive from birth, which added to her natural beauty all the necessary elements that would make a strategic marriage. Their parents dreamed of a duke, but circumstance dictated that a judge would have to do.

In what comes to the girl's education, her parents made an excellent job in training her in literature, arts, performance and anything that would make her a better bargain with anyone rich enough to earn the right for the lady's hand, but, mainly as a consequence of their actual disregard for who the girl actually was, virtually all of her education was left in the hands of competent and well-paid tutors. Because of that, the girl grew to be a reflex of what ran through her ears, not of what ran through her veins, and, in spite of her parent's greedy and superficial inclinations, her tendencies were comprised of compassion, strictness of character and a deep desire for both freedom... and for the young man who so skillfully made the furniture of her room.

Young blood is easily flammable and so small sparks can detonate explosions. An exchange of looks, a smile, an accidental touch of hands and the two were meeting late at night, away from the eyes of Sofia's parents. Helped by condescending servants, the lovers met in secrecy for months, with picturesque scenes of a young man climbing to the balcony of his mistress with a rose between his teeth... or the same young man jumping from said balcony in order to escape an approaching parent.

Of course, in a house ruled by the wicked, not only good souls live, so, with the secret already large and the consequences of exposition already dire, one of the servants decided he could blackmail Sofia into making concessions of a dirty nature in exchange for his silence. The young lady could not bear it and firmly denied his assailant's proposed pact, so the man went to her father.

Knowing that their romance was endangered, Sofia made a decision: between her wealth and comfort and the love of her life, she chose the later. She sent word to Pietro about what just happened, in the form of a message sent through a trusted servant, gathered what she could in provisions and placed her jewels in a sack. With those jewels, she intended to bribe the captain of ship that was to leave the port. They were to leave their cradle once and for all.

Of course, Pietro joined her as soon as he received the message and, instructed by his father, took the ship of a trustworthy captain, a mid-sized ship heading around the continent towards the distant west. The jewels paid for their travel and the two lovers settled to their new life with courage and hope, but little else. Despite that, both of them felt happier than ever before.

Leaving in a small port village mid-way to their ship's final destination, as she knew her father would know which ship they had taken and his man would most certainly be waiting at the final port, the couple heard word of a passing caravan heading towards the wild lands, intending on founding a new settlement. They desired nothing but to restart their lives and thus quickly managed to join the travelers.

Only one thing remained: their names. When asked about their full names, for the sake of record, they became afraid that Sofia's last name could be recognized, so they had to come up with a new last name. Pietro, understanding that the two were reborn in the seas, suggested "DeiMari", which meant "from the seas" in the old regional language of their former home, a suggestion quickly accepted by Sofia.

And thus was born the couple Pietro and Sofia DeiMari. What lies ahead of them, only the gods may know, but definitely it seems that the goddess of love would be smiling upon them...
