Well, I could always possibly consider a physical adept swordsman with a weapon focus, your literal street samurai compared to the slang! Or, a sniper and special operations specialist. Or a shaman. I'm pretty flexible when it comes to suiting the needs of a group and building my character around it.

I've played every edition... and there have been some changes but other than probably needing an assist on character creation, I think you'd find it pretty familiar.

I think they normalized the staging to 2 hits back in 3rd edition. In 4th, they normalized all the targets to 5. Gone are the days of Panther Assault cannons doing 12D8 damage... now it's just number of boxes and damage type (Physical or Stun) ... WAY easier to manage.

Also, Edge is new since ... 4th edition, I think. It's an extra "special attribute," like Magic, except that everyone has it. It works sorta like hero points. You can use it to get extra dice to roll, re-roll all the dice that failed, avoid a critical glitch, that kind of thing. The more you have... the more luck is on your side.

Oh, and the Matrix is wireless since 4th edition. Everything and everyone is wireless, and a good hacker is a very dangerous enemy.

Name: Ami Miasawa
Handle: Librarian
Fake SIN: Mercury Marvel
Metatype: Elf
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Team Role: Investigator, Magical Support

Description:Ami has silvery blonde hair and unnatural violet eyes. She has long pointed ears, but is certainly short for an elf coming in at only 1.4 meters in height. She wears a pair of corrective lenses and can usually be seen with a book in her hand.

Personality: Ami is a bit shy at times and not very outgoing. She likes her books and is a bit addicted to Astral travel from her childhood. The real world is often hard to interact with and understand for her. Even so, she is smart and confident in her skills as a mage and an investigator. When she is working she is a lot more confident than when she is in a social situation.

What are you doing: Ami is at Lordstrung's Department store on a job. They called her in because they were having an issue with ghosts and her connection to the Astral is pretty well known in many circles. So, she's basically looking around the store trying to find which areas might be weakened and if a ghost is really in the building or if they are being pranked.

Role-play Sample: This is Silanea one of my current faves.

Seems like a very interesting backdrop! Are you willing to accept complete noobs? I've only played the video games, no RPGs. I don't have the rulebook, but I've read through the quick-start guide and a few online articles.

Life's gettin' a bit hectic so I have to put off familiarizing myself with the rules and lore of Shadowrun to another day. Have fun, all you applicants and @Rainy!

Absolutely! I can help you with the character creation process, or you can look up a pregen.

Did somebody say pre gens?!

Fifth edition may be a bit of a learning curve, but the beauty of PbP is that you have plenty of time between posts to plan your actions and double check rules!

If you don't know, ask! The shadow community here is quite friendly and growing every day. If Rainy can't answer your question, I am positive he knows who can!

Jump in, the water is fine!

Woohoo!

Application
Name: Eileen Fitzgerald,
Handle: Blackhawk, formerly known as Phoenix
Metatype: Elf
Archetype: Decker
Current Job: Part-time Shadowrunner-slash-rebelling rich girl.

Physical Description: Blackhawk is a slender and petite elf, with frizzy red hair and a pair of piercing emerald green eyes. At 28 years of age, she has several piercings down each of her pointed ears, along with in her lip, tongue, and eyebrow. She is usually found covered from head to toe, wearing longsleave shirts and gloves almost every day and usually keeps he head tucked in a hood or inside a motorcycle helmet. This isn't really a fashion choice, it's actually to cover the terrible burn scars that mar almost 40 percent of her body, including a particularly bad one that runs up her neck and over the right side of her face.

Personality/Background: Blackhawk's parents are a pair of well-connected elves from Tir na nOg, second cousins or some business to the head of the Fitzgerald family proper. Her father used these connections to get himself a nice position at HKB, and just before his daughter's birth the couple was moved to Boston so that he could take over running several of their failing branches, making Blackhawk a UCAS citizen by birth.

Ever since she was born, Blackhawk proved to be quite a rebel, inheariting her mothers accent and looks but taking the spirit of her homeland. By the age of 16, she already had a wide number of piercings (even more than she has now, if that can be believed), and had all but dropped out of school. In a desperate effort to reform their daugther, the Fitzgeralds moved to a new mansion in Marblehead. This proved to be a disaster, as being torn from her friends and home caused Blackhawk to just rebel and run away more often, spending most of her time in the nearby town of Salem. There, under the name Phoenix, she met an adorable little goth witch who called herself Tarot and was absolutely smitten.

The pair were pretty much inseparable, despite the couple of years age difference between them. When Blackhawk turned 18, and her lover was 16, the two ran away back to Boston and shacked up officially. This went marginally okay at first, though Blackhawk found it much harder to live without her parents money than she thought. The stress of making ends meet took it's toll on the couple, and arguments started to become more and more common. The last one was the worst, as it caused Tarot to lose control of her powers. The resulting fire took out their entire apartment, along with most of the surrounding units. It was in this fire that Phoenix died, and Blackhawk was born.

Blackhawk woke up roughly a week later, finding herself in a hospital bed with her parents looming over her. Slowly she was able to pry out that the two had placed the blame soundly on Tarot, who had now gone AWOL in order to escape her father's connections. Her options limited, Blackhawk used her time stuck in a hospital bed to try and find her lost lover. And when conventional means failed, the elf dove deep into the dark side of the Matrix, teaching herself how to bypass systems and hack through firewalls. The moment her long physical therapy had finished, Blackhawk took off, keeping only a minimal connection with her family and using her newfound skills to earn her keep as she moved west, following the minimal scraps she could find on Tarot. Intel gathering and system hacking became her speciality, and with every successful job a little bit of that old punk swagger she used to have came back.

Qualities: Right now, I know I will be taking "Born Rich". Might take "Friends in High Places", but still debating that.

What are you doing?: Seeking intel. There was a rumor on the Matrix that Tarot's name was being passed around to groups needing arcane assistance, and that the last group who had hired her was still here in town.

RP SampleIf there was one thing Blackhawk had learned in life, it was that there was no such thing as an easy job, despite how hard this Johnson was trying to sell that it would be. The building had been broken into a week before for a few items out of the target's personal collection, and the magic wards had been ripped to shreds, replaced with a stopgap measure of security drones while a new shaman could be brought in. With her years of near-stalker lever intel, Blackhawk saw Tarot's fingerprints all over this one, so she ignored the obvious signs and dove in. And now here she was, hunkering next to a troll by the name of Checkers dodging lead, apt payment for not listening to her gut really.

Through the visor of her bike helmet, the elf's keen eyes assessed the hallway, finally locking on a small, almost inconspicuous door. Waving her deck towards the door, she gave the silent command to Checkers, causing the big troll to grin ear to ear and slam the pump-action on his streetsweeper. Seeing as Checkers was about as wide as he was tall and didn't mind taking a few stings, Blackhawk found it easy to get to the door and threw it open. "Jackpot~" She purred in her Irish brogue as intuition paid off. A perfectly normal server room that had been retrofitted to run the drones, and a rather kluge job at that. Blackhawk didn't even have to break out the DNI for this one, and with a few quick taps of her lithe fingers the visor of her helmet lit up with a HUD of AROs, a "so retro its almost cool again" vibe to the whole thing.

Meanwhile, back in the hall, Checkers was trading shots with the annoying drones, the damn things moving too quick to get a shot properly lined up with. Luckily Lilith, the groups mage, had met up with him and put a shield up to stop the seemingly endless spray of small-arms fire. Suddenly to both of their confusion, the drones stopped shooting and just hovered mindlessly, before all simultaneously blaring out the sound of an Irish fiddle. The pairs confusion only grew as Blackhawk stepped out of the sever room, waving one hand to the beat as "Mari-Mac" continued to blare out of all the drones in stereo.

"You could have just shut them down..." Lilith drooled in her typical non-chalant tone as she headed down the hall to their target, causing Blackhawk just just smirk in reply. True, she could have, but that would have been almost too easy. And more importantly, if there was even a chance that she heard their song playing again, the elf was going to take it.

Seconded.

Also, you'll find that most* Shadowrun players are sufficiently obsessed with it to want to get you hooked - which means you can bounce stuff off us and we don't even bruise.

ApplicationName: Vincent Walse
Fake SIN: Alex Matthews
Handle: Cipher
Metatype: Human
Archetype: Decker Extraordinaire
Current Job: Shadowrunning (and hacking his way into shopping for free)

Physical Description: For someone who specializes in decking, Vincent stays in good shape. Not exactly a street samurai, but not your stereotypically lanky nerd, either. Standing at five foot ten, he presents a fairly prominent statue to match his healthy physique. The younger man keeps his long hair tied back into a tight braid, its black strands pairing well with his naturally bronze skin. The rather bright blue hue of his irises is a pretty good giveaway that he's using cybernetics. That datajack sticking out of his head's probably an even better clue. He dresses casually when not on the job, favoring clothing he "buys" from tres chic outlets and AmerInd operations alike. When he's on the job, it's all business down to the jumpsuit, the gloves, the beanie, cases for weapons and his tech. Anything to keep him covered and on the move, emphasis placed upon leaving not a flake of skin behind to be matched to him.

Personality: In general, Vince is laid back. Not much bothers him, and he's known by his friends to be the anchor in any storm. It's just always been his way. This might well explain how he kept his cool during those first early days of illegally hacking in the Matrix, back when the majority of systems being wired was still a thing, if on its way out. Unexpected defenses in the system? No problem. When you run into a problem like that, you just behave like water: if you can't go around it, then cut a new path through. The job's a serious thing to him, of course. It's life or death and he likes being alive, and preferably his chummers, too. Vincent's a good guy, the kind most people like socializing with in the hubs and data havens, but he's learned that you need a hard heart to pull through in the shadows. Sometimes, you've just gotta tell that security gatling to frag a guy for the greater good.

RP SampleRP Sample: Grocery day. Vincent always loved grocery day. Head over to the local mallplex, pick up some necessities, browse the latest in technical fads. Attired in loose, AmerInd inspired clothes, the younger man waited patiently as the automated checkout skimmed his purchases and tabulated the price. Once that part came along, it was time for a bit of handiwork. With no one around to watch him, Vince connected himself to the checkout's wireless system and ventured into the Matrix, seeming to just stare off into space while waiting for the computer in the world of flesh and blood. The icons in the system were nothing worth worrying about, the ICE easy to slip by with a bit of sleaze programming dealt out.

Finally, the register finished tabulating the cost of his groceries, coincidentally just as he left the system. A week's worth of food and some very nice technical gadgets, grand total of zero nuyen. Courtesy of a corporate subsidiary, how generous! Casual as ever but quickly enough to evade any potential detection, Vince swept the bag containing his "purchases" into his hands and meandered out of the store, the completely automated systems at his back none the wiser. I hate that those things put people out of work, thought Vincent, but automated checkout really is so damned convenient!

I'm interested in this. I'll probably put something together for an Adept but I need to look at some stuff first.

Say, I noticed there's no SR5 character sheet in the profiler. RDN, do you have a preferred format for completed sheets?

I prefer Chummer. It's just generally the best way to create a character.

I've played a very little but I've read the rules. Mostly. I'd love to play more. I'll work on a character concept over the next few days.

Application
Name:Fergus "Mac" MacDougal

Metatype: Dwarf

Archetype: Medic/Infiltrator/Face

Current Job: Rogue Philanthropist

Physical Description: Stout (5'4"), Short-cropped black curly hair and beard, well-groomed, muscular build. Wears good quality clothes, keeps everything well maintained. Is normally seen around town in his finest suit walking with his dapper cane and tipping his bowler to potential contacts.

Personality/Background: This bloke is a bit on the older side for a Free Lance 'Runner'. But Mac is healthy and full of energy. He is willing to take the odd (non-Runner) job and has even worked for 'Doc Wagon' before being fired, but that's another story. He's gruff as he's never taken well to this new look that came upon him one day in 2021. A millionaire at one time (Medical Supplier), now just a small-time thief and wanna-be medic for the other 'outcasts'. He has a bad reputation and his surly disposition does nothing to help it go away. Frankly, he doesn't care about what other 'people' think and always does what he thinks is best. Mac has a big heart and that's what has gotten him in trouble in the past. Giving away free medical supplies and working for nothing angered his employers at 'Doc Wagon'. After a particular public confrontation with one of the CEO's, some nasty rumors spread and Mac found himself bankrupted by lawsuits and the inability to find work.

Qualities: A classic 'Old School' type. Mac has not embraced the new Magic or High Tech aspects of life in the Sixth World, preferring to live in the past as much as possible. Gaining favors through theft, information gathering, by keeping Runners and the lower classes indebted to him for his medical work, buying, selling and trading. Mac does whatever Mac needs to do to survive.

What are you doing?: All players will start out at Lordstrung's Department Store, one of the public entrances to the Ork Underground, when the invasion hits.
What are you doing there?

Mac was in the department store looking at the new Fall fashions when disaster struck. Being from out of town, he was fortunate to have his Rental parked just outside filled with most of his gear.

Role-play Sample: Mac knelt down next to the unconscious Wageslave and checked for a pulse. He saw the large piece of mortar fall from the building and strike a glancing blow to the poor wretch. He knew that there was little chance that the man would die but he wanted to make an effort at helping. This man and his family lived in the building he was trying to infiltrate and Mac needed a base of operations close to his target. The Dwarf bandaged the man's head then helped him onto the front steps of the building. "Yer gonna be fine Lad. Just a glancing blow. Either way we should be getting ye home by the by. Do you live around here?"
