Hi Team!
I've been reading about how dog sleds work. Looks like the math goes very deep... so hoping to make it simple. 300lbs for an empty dog sled seems too much to me... so lets make it 100lbs. So let's say each dog can pull 360lbs, minus the 100 for the sled. That's 260lbs each. The dogs also have the beast of burden trait because they are specifically bred for this job. A sled can fit two medium sized characters and one small, plus their gear. Perhaps two sleds with a dog each is enough? Or if you wanted to have an extra-sized sled (say 150lbs) that can carry the whole party, you'd need 2 dogs attached. One big sled option: 2x Dogs pull 360lbs each = 720lbs. Minus 150 for sled = 570lbs capacity. All party members fit. Two normal sled option: 1x Dog pulls 360lbs. Minus 100 for sled = 260lbs capacity. Two medium and one small members fit. Two of these gives you 520lbs capacity. However! Lol. The dogs will be rolling against hypothermia too... so you might want to factor that into your decision and consider using 3 dogs total just in case.

I guess for the sake of simplicity, go with the one big sled
I'll try to get a post up in the next couple days

I say we take the three dogs, just in case. I don't want to be trapped out in the wilds rolling saves against exhaustion and nothing to do about it.
Looking to get a post up in the next couple of days. |

Perfect! The idea of you all huddled on one big cart sounds more fun anyway

I decided at the last moment that Rana will take a woodcutting axe, too. If she can borrow it for free, she will, but if you want me to pay for it, let me know the price and I'll deduct the money from my sheet.
EDIT: You also said you wanted an Animal Handling roll for how many dogs there are in attendance. Does that mean one roll for each dog, or one roll for all the dogs? Last edited by Snicker; Apr 6th, 2024 at 01:34 PM. |

Hi Team! I'll get a post sorted soon to move us on.
Rather than bogging us down with the hypothermia rolls, does anyone mind if I do that for you as we progress? Thought it might be more fun if it catches you unawares hehe. Then again, if you'd rather be responsible for the rolls of your own fate, that's totally fine too. Quote:
With the woodcutting axe, *refers to notes*... let's go with 5gp to buy. If you'd rather just borrow one we could do a deal maybe that someone in town wants a little extra wood on the side if they lend it to you? Another option is the 6gp carpenter's tools. No axe, but has a handsaw!

I'm okay with you rolling hypothermia rolls for us.
I'll roll Animal Handling for the dogs. Is it possible for anyone else to aid her for advantage, or is it strictly a one-person job? Also, some context for those interested: real-life sledding dogs develop behavioural problems if they don't get enough work or activity, but I don't know if the dogs used in Cilsie have been bred as effectively as those. |

Wyl can offer to help, but he doesn't have proficiency I'm animal handling so I'd say go ahead and roll twice

Hi Folks! I think helpers with dog stuff is fine I'm not personally familiar with "working" dogs at all, but the idea that they need a lot of exercise to stay happy sounds good to me!
