Plot Summary

In the world of Waevera, technology has exploded, magic and science are now on the cutting edge of evolving as one. Civilization is changing and moving towards unknown and uncharted exploration. What was once unthinkable is now the achievable.

The world of Waevera is divided however. Some see new technology as a threat to their way of life, others believe that their Patrons and Deities are displeased and have cast great and unusual storm surges over the seas and deserts of the world. Surges that have rumor of dark oddities and grim aftermath.

In Keia, the rivers have begun to run dry, once lush beds now only filled with course stones and muddy clay earth. While in the southern most reaches of the world, rumors of volcanic activity have been sighted in the Fellfrost Sea.

Those of which embrace the era, however, are quick to jump aboard the wave of exciting new changes. The new Light Rail is being built across the continents, massive land vehicles are being constructed in ScarlaNoa, while a brand new Arcane Academy is forming for magical engineering and advancement.

No longer is there a limit to the sky. Change was coming to Waevera...
Will you be one of those that embrace it....or fear it?




What I am looking for in a playerLooking for 6-8 Players that can commit long term. 1 to 2 posts a day encouraged, but 3 a week is the minimum. All official sources allowed in character creation. I'm not a huge fan of limiting creativity for a high fantasy game. Want to reflavor your Goblin as a Kitsune, I'm all for it. Your Half Orc is also Half Dragonborn... be my guest. I do ask you stay within Official books for basing your race and class,(Ex: You have a Death Domain Cleric and you want to call her a Afterlife Anatomy Specialist...Ok!) though Bloodhunter, Gunslinger, Revised Ranger...Are fine.

Character Creation Rules
We're starting at Level 3, 27 Point Buy, 100 Gold and Standard equipment. You can additionally start with a kit of your choice (Herbalism, Healers, Thieves Tools, Etc) at no reduction of gold.
NOTE; All classes are "capable" of taking a firearm proficiency, however, due to the nature of the campaign,Gun Slingers, Fighters, Barbarians, Paladins, Rogue and Ranger are the only classes that automatically start with it. In balancing this, I am offering the other classes that don't start with it, the option of taking a free feat (can't use firearms with this free feat).


What to expect
What to expect:
Ship Management, we'll be using UA Of Ships and the Sea Expect Airships, Living Ships and Submarine type vessels.

UA and Some Homebrew accepted (If there's something you'd like to use, please send me the link and I'll consider it).
Gunslinger we'll be using Gunslinger-homebrew- for the wider range of subclass.
Artificer- We'll be using True Artificer(5e) True Artificer
In addition to the True Artificer, I've included the "Wandslinger" subclass in addition to use with the Class. Page 7 found HERE
Druids- New circles that I am allowing are found here.Druids

Faction and Guild interaction and involvement (Ravnica will be used, I will list further information on what information we'll be incorporating from the book. Let me be clear though, this is NOT a heavy Ravnica based game. So participation in the Guild is NOT required for your character. As a side note, you do not have to start with a guild at Creation. There's ample opportunity to join one during the campaign.) For those seeking to take this route to START however, you must select Faction Agent as your background. *Guild Requirements coming soon*

Heavy Exploration in a very large world, hosting over 4 thousand miles of travel adventure between continents and islands. Planar travel possibilities dependent upon player decisions, discovery and interest. This is your Sandbox filled with my toys... And I am a spoiled brat that has alotta toys. But hey...I share

At last to mention, there is a heavy focus on Invention and Ingenuity. Through story line and/or new items, magic, etc. It is not abnormal for me to throw in some funky new weapon or armor type. We'll be using Invention mostly for re-flavoring old stuff, based on "Mana" being discovered recently in Waevera. (More in the links below). That being said, Mana opens up new technology engineering and research. Mana is the new way to apply Magic, Science and/or the Mechanical together.

About me:
I am a fairly actively DM and Player, though new to this forum. I've been playing D&D since 2007, before that actively chat based RP and recently, I've returned back to PbP because, lets face it, some of us are better writers then talkers. This is my element! Because of my noobiness to the forum however, bare with me while I get rolling. I have a lot of information to post and like to do it in specific ways. Hope to see your Interest !


Below is the all the information relevant to the Ravnica guilds I've incorporated into Waevera. Note that it's almost Copy and Paste from the book, as while I have tried to be diligent in making sure what we're using makes sense, I may have left out something I shouldn't have as I continue to try and get this interest thread finished quickly. Again, if you don't want to take the route of being a Guild member, you don't have to. The information here is intended to give you as much as possible to merely work with in character creation. =D

The Backdrop of your starting point In ScarlaNoa, the citizens have embraced the explosion of a major discovery in technology. Deep within the earth lay hidden pools of a new substance discovered by a local drilling exhibition led by, Gnomish Extraction Expert SticksFiddle Man'anna. Upon his discovery, he sent samples to the various research establishments throughout Waevera, curious about it's potential. Mage academies, Scholar centers, Political counsels and the like, all received a sample for request of study. The findings eventually led into an astounding eruption of new possibilities in several fields. Collectively, the substance was a cohesive glue that could combine the Magical to the Mechanical, more so then a mere spell that required material components to activate, the substance was literally the activator itself. The realm of opportunity was endless and it quickly was introduced to the world and named after the discoverer, SticksFiddle Man'anna as simply Mana.

It's been one year since the completion of initial findings of Mana and has already spread it's influence over the world. To the West, in the country of Treham, the Izzet Guild has seized a region rich in Mana wells. Purchasing and working almost every discovered location to the benefit of the public. In their plans, a massive project is underway, the Light Rail, connecting Inner Continental Travel to Outer Continents.

In ScarlaNoa, your home state, you've witnessed first hand the avenue this Kraterocracy, which heavily emphasizes its Military in the world stage, is pursuing. Already, the first prototypes of early stage Land Vehicle engineering has started. Enormous iron monsters with reinforced wheels and track, line the Capitol stable yard, where once Warhorses were housed.
And though the Loriean Sibling Leadership has often neglected the more, common folk, of their empire and ruled through strict law enforcement, the Citizens of ScarlaNoa have also reaped in reward the benefits of Mana in the realm, even if it was against the law to have it unless approved by the Loriean Dynasty Council. Mana brought in new jobs, more coin and trade, new products that could add to one's quality of life...and some were content with merely that.

With the anniversary of discovery approaching, the Loriean Dynasty is holding a great Inventor's Fair for those of which were approved to use Mana. You, after an agonizingly long wait, have indeed been stamped for approval to present your invention or gadget to the Loriean Council for review. If your review goes well, you have an opportunity to be exposed to great wealth and partnership in your future. The Council looks forward to meeting with you and your creation in three days time.

A. Really intriguing.
B. Very detailed for a recruitment thread! There's a lot to chew on here, and it gets me excited to begin the application process.

Also doesn't help that I'm a sucker for ship based games.

This looks like a lot of fun. I wonder, are you open to homebrew content, sepcifically the Monk subclass on page 6 of this Modern Handbook? I really like the flavour of a firearm-toting, ass-kicking martial artist.

Even if this particular homebrew is out, I could maybe do some kind of multiclassing to get the concept to work. Do fighters in this setting get firearm proficiency?

Also @Lazer - I'll approve it, but also be advised, the names of gun types won't be the same as the Modern Handbook ones. Completely reflavored which I will have more information on gun types in the game forum. I will most likely tweak the subclass a bit here and there to reflect the campaign setting. Monks, in my view, aren't known for their guns in any setting but, that being said, I can see potential in the subclass. You can probably tell that I am not a Heavy Mechanics focused DM, but the last thing I want to do is unbalance the game by accident by adding a homebrew that offsets something else.

Just a quick update: The information for the Guilds is finished (This information is purely for your enjoyment and not mandatory. Renown will be used within the campaign however, and as most everyone knows, can impact story-lines dramatically. If the group decides to be heavily guild focused, then we'll go that route. If it's a mix, then the play and interaction will be lighter. If there's no interest in Guilds at all, then we'll explore what the current interest is. Im pretty flexible and very NON railroady.

City locations Im redoing a bit, but the the names will remain the same. Those should be done by tomorrow.. then I think I'll be finished with the interest thread creation lol. Sorry, I know it's a lot of information, but I want my players to have a solid grasp of the world around them when creating their character.

Thank you for looking into it, but I’ve actually decided to go in a different direction (sorry for messing you about). After reading about all of the guilds I had a hundred different character ideas I was excited about and I’ve finally ended up going down the ‘face’ route because it says the game will be RP Heavy.

I should be able to get the beginnings of the application down tomorrow.

Again, sorry for messing you around.

Hmmm...

Placeholding for sure. Congratulations on such an ambitious and detailed game ad! The guilds alone are enough to cause character design option paralysis (in a great way).

There seems to be all sorts of Gunslinger classes and subtypes out there. Which one(s) are you going with? I'm not saying that's how I'm leaning (but I am).

Though he never filled out his father's broad chest, Gordon did edge him out in height and his long limbs are expressive in their fluidity. His features are sharp with a strong jaw, bright eyes and a wide mouth made for grinning. His ears are particularly pronounced for a half-elf and he chose to accessorize that feature with an equally fantastic waxed and curled moustache. His hair is kept short as to better don and doff hats. The clothing is quite stylish for the day, a result of an upper class merchant family upbringing, and he keeps it clean or tailors new sets long before the current ones have worn out. Long coats, vests and fine wool slacks for town, the same when out exploring plus an armored coat. Almost always a hat. Always his firearms. They rest at his side so casually with their time and friction polished handles that they seem to be the least ornamental thing about him.
Personality:

Having come of age in the large city of Clifton and spent time among the street urchins and the upper crust alike, Gordon was shaped strongly into an egalitarian. Race, religion, sex, social station, everyone gets the benefit of the doubt in his eyes. Freedom to do what one wants is Gordon's highest ideal but tied to that is an equally strong conviction of fair play. There is a time to follow rules and laws and a time to break them and the dividing line is the mantra of freedom and fair play. Gordon subscribes to the modern evolution of chivalry: the gentleman. He is bound by his ethical code of honor, manners, and respect toward all people unless and until they need to be taught a lesson in civility. Clothes make the man as they say and Gordon believes how one presents oneself is a big clue to their personality and motivations.

Gordon inherited his mother's wanderlust. Most of his life to date it has expressed itself in moving around the city, never living in the same place or street for more than two years. He never settled down with one woman either, perhaps a fear of commitment stemming from his mother as well, from her abandonment. He has travelled to most of the towns in ScarlaNoa, but the city always brought him back. However, the advent of flying ships and the iron horses have awoken a deeper spirit of adventure and he suddenly has found even the variety of Clifton can not sate or slake it. There is a world to be seen and untouched places to explore and he will be there on the vanguard.
