You can choose any square with a face (flat, not a diagonal) adjacent to or including you. This is because it is a cube, not a 'burst'. The definition of cube in 5e verifies this.

Thanks for that. Got a DM that likes throwing lots of little baddies at the party. Need to make sure I have one area spell I can do without necessarily hitting party members.

What homebrew rules should I use for looting creatures like infernals or undead? and can I solo a dragon with a party of npcs?

You'll want to check the Games Seeking Players section of the site for games that are accepting applications currently.
As for "looting" the undead, why do you need homebrew rules? You could just tell your DM "I search the zombie's body" and you'll probably get asked for an Investigation check. Or say, "I look at the ghoul's remains" and give a Perception check. |
