In each country he dedicated himself to learning their martial arts and is a master in several and well versed in many more. The story behind how he wound up taking over a run down building on the edge of Redmond and turning it in to a dojo for the local street riffraff isn't widely known but he has been successfully running it as neutral ground for the last six or seven years. He takes in street kids, feeds them, and teaches them how to look after themselves (not just how to fight). Although I’d never admit it to a potential client, with you I can freely say I’m damaged goods, fragged over by my superiors and the experiences they put me and my unit through. That’s not to say I’m not lethal, I’ve honed my edge since those days and I can be a vicious, cold bastard when I need to be, it’s just that I need to disassociate myself from it all, blank it out, become less human, something that doesn’t sit well with me or my ex-wife. I started out as a good corporate citizen for the Man, in this case Ares, and it was clear from the outset that I was bright, athletic and Gifted enough for certain aspects of corporate life but that I didn’t have the right mental framework to make it as a functional wage slave. I was recruited to the security programme and after excelling at that was given the chance to join the Firewatch training school at the tender age of twenty three. Naturally I leapt at the chance to become one of Ares’ best and I strove to prove myself again and again during the rigorous training regime. To boost my talent I was scheduled to undergo one of the first move by wire implants. They knew it would compromise my magic but it was felt that it would be a significant asset and viable experiment and in those days I went along with what was asked of me with very few questions asked. Damn thing hasn’t been right since I no longer have access to the Ares cybertechs. I wasn’t directly involved in the infamous creation of the Chicago containment zone in ’55 but as Ares responded to increasing pressure to clean up the mess our unit was deployed against at least six nests in the next three years, culminating in “Operation Extermination” in ’58. I will never forget the things I saw over those years and my dreams are still haunted by those images today. The doc says my fear of insects is understandable given the circumstances, although I think he’d prefer it without the overwhelming rage that fills me at the same time! I won’t say that Ares weren’t good to those of us who were less able to cope with events. I saw a stream of shrinks and quacks in an effort to purge all my fear and self-loathing, all at the company’s expense. But it never seemed enough. I withdrew from the world and for a while became next to useless to myself and everyone around me. My wife was a psychiatric nurse that I met during my extended convalescence and plenty of people have told me it was a mistake to marry someone in those circumstances. But she did manage to pull me out of my despondent pit and help me sort my sorry life out. We lasted six years together which is no mean feat and I’m impressed she put up with me that long. Once I was back on my feet Ares put me on the fledgling Firefight programme as an instructor. Here was something where my martial skills, anger and problems with disassociation could be safely channeled. Ares did an excellent job of creating a functioning martial art more or less from scratch and I am proud to have been a part of those initial stages. Apathy still struck me every now and again and I would relapse in to a semi fugue state but more and more I was able to hold it together. When the crash happened at the end of ’64 everything was going to ****, Claire had left me and Ares didn’t seem like a safe haven any more. I took the opportunity of a glitch in records to slip away from the corp and head out for new horizons. I know now that the corp had an eye on me all along and I’ve worked for them several times since, but I guess that they no longer wanted a liability on their official books and I was more useful to them as a freelance operative. I made my way to Seattle eventually, pitching up in Redmond a couple of years ago. Although I plied my skills as a shadowrunner from time to time I preferred to have a steadier income and found work at a dojo in Touristville, keeping street kids out of trouble and helping the odd fellow runner to up their game. The Wolf Pack offered me another home and a place to be with people who, whilst as weird as me, weren’t anywhere near as messed up. I don’t know whether I’m cursed but I was thrown out in to the cold again when the community that housed them was attacked by anti-techno types who objected to something in the hippie commune ethos. So I’m back to looking for shadow work and keeping my head down…

CIRQUE DE L'OMBRE, BLACK AND WHITE CIRCUS FREAKS, CONNECTION 5 Membership: 10-99 (+1), Scope: Worldwide (+3), Finances: Limited (+1), Magic: Some (+1), Matrix: Limited (+1) Description:The Circus of Shadows is a mysterious travelling troupe that somehow seem to slip across borders with an ease that make many Coyotes scratch their heads in bafflement. They are a rag tag convoy of vehicles, including some truly ancient horse drawn caravans, that house an eclectic mix of performers from the typical clowns, acrobats and soothsayers to more modern matrix AR performers and tech wizards. They arrive at a destination without fanfare, set up shop and run a performance or two and then disappear without a word about where they are going. Despite that they draw large crowds of those in the know and tickets are fiercely sought after. They have a uniform of sorts in that they all wear tones of black grey or silver with the smallest flashes of white to provide striking contrasts. Colour is only really seen in the AR overlays or for those looking on in the astral, where the shows are almost equally targeted. She looks deceptively innocent but beneath the playful purring facade lies the heart of a shrewd and cunning hunter. Aneka had the misfortune to be born in to a religious sect that saw her cat transformation in the wake of Haley's Comet as an abomination that resulted in her being cast out just ahead of the mob who wanted to string her up. She fled her strict upbringing and somehow managed to stay alive on the streets for a couple of weeks without falling prey to the urban jackals. For those that believe in serendipity she was enormously lucky to stumble across a performance of the Cirque de l'Ombre who immediately recognised her as one of their own and welcomed her in to the fold. Since then her ready charm and athletic prowess enabled her to fit in to Circus life without a problem although her wild streak got her in to trouble more than once. Like the cat she looks like she can go from loving and playful to vicious in the whisk of a tail and she can be unpredictable to deal with. Her life changed when she fell in with a young triad lieutenant after a memorable performance in Hong Kong. For a while she parted company with the Circus to explore the darker aspects of HK society that ended with her tucking her tail between her legs and running, Triad enforcers hot on her heels, keen to return the extensive body mods she'd absconded with. She has performed on and off with the circus since but the danger that dogs her threatens them almost more than her and she can no longer stay with them permanently. When they pass wherever she is Aneka hooks up with them for a night or two before slinking back to the shadows to find new prey to play with. Whilst Valkyrie are now a recognised metavariant the nature of her change put her squarely in the Changeling circle. Now she is a performer in her own right, her act showing off her aerial acrobatics. Her ability to change the colour of her wings allows her to go from angel to devil and blend in with the black, grey and white motif of the Cirque de l’Ombre.   SPITE, DANCER, CONNECTION 3 Name & Principle Alias Aviva Mariot "Spite" Ethnicity & Metatype Caucasian Human DOB 2060 Sex Female Height Average Build Slight Nationality French Description: Spite has the prettiness of youth, with long dark hair and bright green eyes. Sadly her smile rarely reaches her eyes any longer and her consuming anger at the world for the hand it has dealt her can make her difficult to deal with. Aviva grew up in the comfort of the close, if rather odd and eclectic, companionship of the Cirque and it was there she learnt her performance skills as an acrobat, martial artist and dancer. In ‘75 her world crashed down around her ears when the circus was decimated by a massive ghoul attack that left many dead and many more turned. Her immediate family gone she could have stayed with the rememnants of the troupe but the memories were too painful and she took the path to darkness instead and renamed herself ’Spite’. MECHANICALS TRIBE, CONNECTION 5 Membership: 100-1000 (+2), Scope: Local Area (+0), Finances: Limited (+1), Magic: Some (+1), Matrix: Limited (+1) Description:The Mechanicals are an urban tribe now holed up in a geothermal plant on the outskirts of Orting in Puyallup. In fact they’ve taken over much of the small town below as their demense and walled it off against outsiders like an old school motte and bailey fortification. They are steampunk enthusiasts with a penchant for scounging tech and repurposing it as well as hydroponics farmers and they even offer limited medical aid to the locals (there aren’t all that many locals in the ash wastes around their home). They’ve had bitter experiences over the last few years since teaming up with the FreΣdom Tribe, facing off raids and even a devastating ghoul attack. They are understandably wary of strangers but they have big hearts and once you prove yourself to them then they are extremely loyal. That was until the late summer of ’75 when, for as yet undetermined reasons, some sick fragger rounded up a load of feral ghouls from the barrens, herded them in to the back of a container and then dumped them on the tribals in the middle of a celebration. Although the tribals fought them off it wasn’t without significant cost…for Cam it was a very personal cost as he contracted the Kreiger strain.
