Concept What I'm seeing from these stats is someone big, but not strong, perhaps simply tall? They're not attractive, but they are reasonably intelligent. However, they are more educated than they are intelligent, so I'm imagining someone stuck on a PhD for years, unable to finish it. I know Power is more like Will Power than physical power, so someone who has gone down the rabbit-hole of paranormal paranoia and taken it upon themselves to train their mental stability. "No ghost is going to possess me!" etc.

Excellent information! So there *can* be a tie in to something something education, but not in the manner that I originally imagined. Love it. In a school, handy with tools, interesting in "ghosts and goblins"... I can work with that.

If you are having any issues regarding connection to Henry remember your biggest connection to Henry is that you belonged to the same paranormal research group at some point. It was open to the public to join and that very well could have been the first time you met him. If you wish to have a deeper connection that's great go for it. This is also how the rest of the group knows each other as well. We will begin with all of you knowing each other. How close? That depends on you.

Character Application Mason Higgs Male, 32 Years, Caucasian Former NSA Cybersecurity SpecialistAncient mysteries website and podcaster Description Mason is still largely living his urban youth days in appearance, keeping it real with the latest trends that fit that of the gaming techno gang banger, light hoodies with layered jack, jeans or cargos. Nothing to flashy that might get him jumped or held up, but authentic enough that he blends into the crowds and could one of a dozen other people around him. Lucky for him genetics blessed him with some better than average looks, enough that the ladies will give him a second glance, and if he is needed to he can clean up real good. Background Mason's grew up close to downtown in a little two bedroom apartment that he shared with his mother longer after his father had split for greener pastures, she worked hard to keep the place and food on the table with a sales call center job that luckily allowed her to work from home and a part time job as a waitress at a little late night diner. It left Mason to fend for himself more times than not, but luckily there were other kids in the building that he could run with and when his mom wasn't using the computer for work he had hours to play around with it and the web. A lot of immigrant families in the area is what got him started on learning other languages, and he seemed to pick them up quite easily which was a gift that would serve him well in the future. It was in his teens on his late night coding and web browsing sessions where he first came across the Cryptic Collective, and he found himself drawn to some of the mystery and intrigue around what Henry talked about while finding himself pulled into the delightful rabbit hole of fantasy and paranormal. So by day he continued to excel at school without much effort and easily secured a spot at a good university for computer science and by night continued his fascination with the occult with a focus on Europe and Americas mysticism. When he graduated with his degree he applied to work at the NSA where his talents in cyber security and languages were in high demand, and he hoped his access might help him delve deeper into some of the mysterious events that were happening in the world. While most of his work was fairly standard stuff dealing with by the book terrorism, your typical drug cartel operations and global criminal organizations every now and then he got to truly get involved in something a bit more out of the box. He probably would have stuck with the NSA for longer if hadn't felt there was a void on the internet when the Cryptic Collective began to dissolve. His initial work followed along with some of the click bait type stories and blurbs that were all to common discussing various mysterious occurrences, lost artifacts and other historical blurbs which people couldn't help but click to read the article. Most were fairly standard but had a tendency to draw people in, and those that proved to be insightful or truly interested would often find themselves piecing together what was needed to find his true website Ancient Mysteries, which tended to be less fanciful and more investigated efforts by himself and others. The click bait business though was quite profitable and it wasn't long before his ad revenue, his podcasts and donations to his site surpassed what he was making at the NSA by double or more and he took it as a sign that it was time to quit his day to day job and do what he was truly passionate about. It was right about then that Henry's letter arrived.... Unless you are starting with the optional Mythos experience package you start with 0 mythos skill. You can’t purchase it up with your points. Which is good and bad. Your 25pts would mean a permanent -25 to your max sanity. The higher that score goes the more of “you” disappears until you’re mad.

So about that. I house rule that 20% is considered fluent . Meaning general conversation and reading is fine with no rolls. Only when obscure words or trying to decipher mythos tomes will I ask for a roll. Especially since this is a modern campaign and things like Google translate exist

Application Name: Phil Collins Age: 33 Occupation: Accountant Description and Background: Tall and a bit hefty, Phil, 33, is an above average accountant who really leans into the nerdiness of the job. He enjoys mathematical calculations and gets a little too excited talking about "the numbers" sometimes which people find to be a bit off-putting. His real passion, though, is playing board and tabletop games and he has even attempted to create and market his own game, The Pyramids of Brightland. However, people found the game required too complex play due to the multitude of spreadsheets needed to keep track of scoring and Pyramids bombed. During his career, he spent two years working for Deloitte before receiving his CPA and moving to industry. He's jumped between different companies every few years and has had a range of jobs including management accountant, internal auditor, and audit manager. His bosses have always appreciated his work, but his awkward nature has at times has caused him to create a negative drag on the teams he's been assigned to. He has a penchant for being overly friendly with by making jokes at the wrong times, some involving physical comedy, in an attempt to be seen as a laid back person, but this often grates on the nerves of his coworkers. Philosophically, Phil is an empiricist and is very reliant on a belief in facts he can verify. Growing up with spiritual parents who also bought into every conspiracy theory they came into contact with led Phil to spend exorbitant amounts of time as a youth and young adult researching the veracity of his parents claims. This likely heavily contributed to Phil being behind the curve on social skill and a bit overbearing, even if he means well. In addition to board games, Phil is also an amateur magician specializing in card tricks. As a child, he had some interest in watching magic shows and trying to think through how the tricks were done, but he never really took an interest in trying it himself at the time. He picked up the hobby in the last few years as a way to do something with his hands other than typing on a keyboard (taking 5-10 min breaks to practice a trick) and found he had a knack for slipping things through his fingers smoothly and with ease. Now he would like to expand into some other types of illusion magic, but hasn't decided what yet. Phil's came to know Henry when he was hired to review Henry's finances a number of years ago. While reviewing the financial statements, he found some oddities that lead him to do some outside research on Henry. That's when Phil stumbled upon videos and podcasts that involved Henry discussing the paranormal. Phil didn't complete buy into the arguments, but he was intrigued and broached Henry about them. They struck up a friendship and Phil agreed to be Henry's accountant for the foreseeable future. Even though he was never an official member of the Cryptic Collective, Phil did occasionally join in on discussions when other members happened to be around while Phil was taking care of Henry's accounts. Phil still doesn't consider himself a full believer, but he's seen enough weird in his time to not discount it out of hand. However, he has been feeling a bit bored with his job lately and this recent letter from Henry does offer an opportunity at something a little more challenging and exciting. At worst, Phil can close the door on the existence of anything truly paranormal and put this part of his life behind him for good.
