Alright I had almost forgotten to wrap up Mason who I turned into a bit of a polygot, not sure how useful some of the languages will be but I like the feel of it.

Character Application Name: Melissa Jones Age: 28 Occupation: True Crime Podcast Host/Producer (Journalist) Description: Melissa Jones is a slightly heavy-set, but attractive young woman. Or she would be if she took care of herself, which she struggles to do. She has straight brown hair that goes just past her shoulders that often remains unbrushed. She wears large round glasses that flatter her face. She is often seen wearing graphic shirts and jeans that more often than not have a stain or two. Her skin is pale, but she tans easily when she actually spends time in the sun. Background: Melissa Jones grew up in the suburbs as a gifted kid. She was always at the top of every class, but she had few close friends. When she was in high school she got diagnosed with clinical depression, which she is medicated for, but still has major struggles with. She graduated top of her class academically, but she struggled through college applications and ended up in a state college that she was overqualified for. When she got there things were not much better for her. She had no idea what she wanted to do as a major. For her first year and a half, she bounced around a few different majors, but never really settled on anything. During this time Melissa discovered the Cryptic Collective. Melissa was obsessed with them. She spent ages on the forums and helped create the Cryptic Collective podcast as a producer. This obsession came at the expense of her classes. She ended up failing that semester of classes, but she didn't really care(much to the chagrin of her parents). By the next semester, she pivoted to a communications major so she could learn skills to help the collective, but school continued to take a back seat to The Collective. After a few years(5 years totally in college) she managed to graduate with little fanfare because at that point she was fully engrossed in the Cryptic Collective and working for them full-time (with very little pay). When the Cryptic Collective fizzled, Melissa was devastated. This had been a major part of her life for the last 5 years, and now she lost this whole world she was a part of. She did manage to pivot into her own podcast called Twisted Crime which is much more focused on actual crime rather than the supernatural, and she managed to get a moderate success with it. For the next couple years she settled into a routine of making her podcast, but on the side, she still kept up with the various occult mysteries that the collective was investigating. Landon Cross Name: Landon Cross Age: 22 Occupation: Actor / Model Description: Landon is blessed with being extraordinarily good looking. Besides being very handsome and charming on first impression, he is mediocre in most other ways, although he has trouble admitting this - he has a very high opinion of himself. He generally doesn’t care much about other people, and can be narcissistic and unconsciously manipulative, but he has a soft spot for people who recognize his greatness. He can become deeply attached to those people and has a genuine affection for them. He is around 5'10" with chestnut brown hair that is swept back from his forehead, high cheek bones, and he always seems to have a five o'clock shadow. Background: Landon grew up in Toledo, Ohio. He was one of those kids who was effortlessly popular. In high school, he played football and wrestled. He always dated the prettiest girl. Everyone, including him, knew he was destined for bigger things. So as soon as he graduated from high school, he drove across the country to LA to become a movie star. He never doubted that it would be easy. With no real acting experience, things didn’t go quite as planned in LA. He landed a couple side roles playing love interests on soap operas, and he wasn't bad, but there was never enough work to pay the bills. So he started modeling. He was a better model than an actor, but he still told everyone he met that he was an actor. It was a modeling gig where he met Chloe. Chloe was one of those people who was always cheerful and always saw the best in others. Between shoots, he told her he was on his way to becoming a famous actor, and she agreed wholeheartedly, flashing a pretty smile at him. She said he definitely had talent. A few months later they moved in together. Meeting Chloe was another stroke of luck for Landon. He had no trouble meeting women in LA, but Chloe saw something in him that others didn’t. She could see that he was destined to be a star, and told him so every day with that beautiful smile. It was the first time Landon had really been in love. Chloe didn’t talk about her past and Landon didn’t ask about it. Even though he could sense something not quite right about Chloe, he didn't worry about it. Chloe would go from bubbly and effusive one minute to pensive and detached the next, staring off into space, then snap back with a grin. Landon would just grin back. She stayed up late reading on the computer. Landon never asked why. Sometimes she had late night modeling gigs. Landon shrugged. "Don’t wake me up when you come to bed," he’d say. She started to get dark circles under her eyes, but she still looked good. And she still smiled at Landon every morning and told him that today was the day he’d get his big break. She was right of course, Landon thought. It was just a matter of time. Then one morning, Landon woke up in bed alone. Chloe hadn’t come home. Probably went to a party, Landon told himself. But she didn’t come back that night, or the next. After a couple of days he went to the police. Call her family, the cop said. Maybe she moved in with someone else. Happens all the time. Landon looked at the guy with silent contempt. Leave him? The next day, he tried calling her family, but Chloe’s phone was gone. She had said something about her parents once and a sister. He went through everything she owned, but there was nothing - no trace of who she was or where she was from. The cops didn’t do anything. And there was nothing he could tell them. He didn’t even know where her “modeling gig” was or who it was with. He went through her history on his computer. Nothing very interesting there, except that she seemed obsessed with this group called the “Cryptic Collective”. He watched a couple of videos. It was all a bunch of stupid crap - people going on and on about the paranormal. After a while, Landon gave up looking - there just wasn’t anything to go on. But he couldn’t bring himself to move on. He refused to start dating again. Nobody else saw in him what Chloe saw in him. All her stuff was still in his apartment too. But as the days passed, he knew that something must have happened to her. When Henry’s letter showed up, he tore it open right away. He read it a few times. The Collective. Make a documentary? It couldn’t be right. But it was the only mail she’d gotten in months. Somehow these people knew Chloe. I don't have any experience with Call of Cthulhu, but the game looks fun! If I make it in, I'll educate myself on the rules and gameplay. I rolled up stats and got a perfect 90 on appearance... so I'm going with a model.

The idea I'm noodling on is that the guy is basically a jerk and has no interest in the paranormal, but his girlfriend did. Until she recently went missing... And he couldn't believe she would dump him and run off, so he began digging into her web browsing history and started learning more about her involvement in the Cryptic Collective.

I'd play it as his girlfriend was the one who was friends with Henry, and Landon just intercepted her mail and read the letter from Henry, then responded on her behalf to try to learn more about what happened to her.

Any concerns if I go that route? I'd play Landon as the skeptic jerk of the group... at least initially.

Sounds good. No experience isn't an issue I can walk you through. Yeah, I'd say a model is appropriate for 90 APP! My suggestions would be to use the actor Occupation & Skills. If you need help with that let me know. Honestly, he'd probably be the front man if they are going to be making any type of documentary or putting this to film in any way.

Cool, sounds good. I tried using the Actor occupation and allocating my skill points. It's my first time, so you might want to take a quick look and make sure I did it right.

Yeah, he'll definitely have some natural interest / knowledge in film making, so he'd probably be happy to help the group with that. At least initially, his motivation will be to just play along and see what he can learn about his lost girlfriend.
