"No problem at all!" Schon shouts over the winds. "I'll give you an easy throw."

"Thanks, Cap'n!" While the ship came around, Gil pulled a coil of rope and a grapnel from from his kit, tying one end of the rope to the railing and the other through the eye of the heavy treblehook. "Ey Storm, think ya can land this thing in that boat?"

Storm
Storm makes his way to Gil "what are we aiming for?", he asked. As he looked. The sea was everywhere. Storm focusses on the task. If he didn't his fear would take over. He took aim and threw...

Captain Schon and her crew expertly guide the Journey closer. As it approaches, those on deck can visually confirm that the bundle is in fact a humanoid, apparently bound and hooded, but given the pitch and roll of both vessels it is impossible to tell whether the figure is moving. The crew watch anxiously as Storm readies his throw. The dragonborn makes it on the first try!

Once Gil’s two hooks are both attached, there is little trouble pulling the boat in. The storm bangs the boat against the side of the Journey as Storm and the crew struggle to hold the ropes taught in order to keep the hooks engaged. Looking over the edge, all can now see that the bound figure is moving.

OOCIt occurred to me that I should have allowed for the possibility of hitting the person. I was very easy on you here. ( :

Morgan
right-aligned image

Rather than having to predict that they would win, Morgan had to realize that on her first hammer swing the battle had already ended. The crew overcame the enemies at the back of the ship and Captain Schon felled the last remaining marauder herself, impaling him with her rapier. It took a moment for the agitated cleric of Umberlee to settle for herself that they had already won, but once she reached clarity on that, her deep-green eyes immediately went to the fallen. This time the ones hunting them had gotten too close to the ship before Morgan could have protected the crew better. And although her gifts of healing seemed to have prevented some harm, it was evident to her that a few of the crewmen had been lost. For her, the moment of elation after the battle was swallowed by the realization that she hadn't succeeded fully. When Gil erupted in cheer over their victory, it didn't pierce through the heaviness of her heart. Morgan couldn't help feeling sorrow that she hadn't been able to save more lives. As she regarded the half-elven sorcerer momentarily with her usual blank expression, the primordial healer had no words to foil his well-meant relief. Instead, she was just one step quicker than him as she went looking if there was anybody who needed her talents beyond the healing fruits that she had harvested for this voyage before.

As Schon got everybody in order, the cheer of victory turned to somberness for most. And although Morgan realized that she had proven herself in front of Umberlee and should have every right to not share in their melancholy, her thoughts naturally turned to ponder how much of this outcome had been her own failure. The ocean-dweller knew that predicting this ambush would have been impossible as she had never been part of something quite like it before, yet even though she had almost ended bleeding out right next to Gil before ever doing anything and had only avoided that fate because she had proven that she indeed had grown strong and her devotion kept the fickle love of the Wavemother on her side, it didn't change how she still felt that the lives which had been lost were part of her responsibility. Am I... wrong to feel that way...? I... must protect my heart... too...

Squeezing her eyes shut, Morgan rightly shook herself out of the feeling of insufficiency and loss that had numbed her for as long as she had already been to the West Marches. By now she recognized whenever she let weakness into her heart, and although she wasn't strong enough of a woman to prevent it completely, it was that part of her that needed her to be resolute the most in order to do the things that she had set out to do. Never again did she want her thoughts to embrace death more than they embraced life. Looking down, she noticed that she had been clutching Gil's magical cap in her left hand the entire time since she had drawn her hammer, and only with conscious effort did she relax her webbed fingers around it. Her gaze fell over in the direction of her pack which had followed Schon's call to finish dealing with the boat on the waves. Maybe entrusting herself to their companionship was the right thing to do for herself at this moment. With her green hair swirling in the storming wind the cleric of life silently walked over to join them at the railing.

Morgan was surprised with Storm that he hadn't already turned tail to hide under deck again. Right as Morgan arrived beside her two packmates, she could find the bronze dragonborn accepting Gil's grappling hooks before throwing them successfully to attempt to haul the bobbing boat in. The water genasi had naturally wondered whether the boat hadn't just been bait that had been set out for a helpful soul like hers, yet now that they had drifted closer it was very evident that there was indeed a person bundled up inside of the small vessel. It looked like Schon and Gil had decided on a method of recovering that passenger which would allow Morgan to tend to her own wounds before diving into the roiling sea, but just as she looked at Gil to return him the magic item that he had given her right before he had gotten struck down in the ambush, she realized how badly wounded he still was and that he was standing here next to her without having properly taken care of himself at all. Dismay struck the elemental woman and she remembered that her half-elven packmate could have quite some shortsightedness about him. As he appeared excited while watching Storm's work of pulling the boat closer, it indeed seemed like he wasn't paying any attention to his own condition which was looking still quite a bit mangled despite Tolan's healing potion having taken care of the worst. When Morgan maneuvred herself right next to him, she was actually upset enough to forget her usual diffidence as she softly grasped his shoulder and turned him around to her. Her eyes were utterly earnest yet even with her blank facial features there was something reprimanding about them. "Gil... You almost died... What are you doing...?" Her voice had returned to softness after the battle had ended and she didn't quite manage to sound chiding, yet she strongly felt like reproaching this foolish man.

"What? Oh yeah, thanks fer lookin' out fer me, Morgan." Gil had been a more than a little queasy about the harbor-grown fruit when she'd brought them up out of the dockside water, but the prospect of another visit with his ancestor had given him a new perspective on survival. He munched one of the berries while Storm and the crew hauled on the ropes. "Think I'll last longer than the poor sod in the lifeboat though, if'n we don't get 'em up 'ere quick. We still got that harness. Tolan, yer good at climbin', think ya can get down there an' back up? Take the no-drown hat if ya wanta try it."

A big grin came across Tolan's face. He strutted over to the side of the ship and looked down at the hook boat. "Getting down there is a piece of cake. I am more of a lock kind of guy though, never been really good with knots." Turning to the crew. "Can one of you tie a harness for me? Maybe just make me a loop so I can wrap it around who ever...or what ever is down there?"

The halfling jumped up on the the edge of the ship and looked down again. Handing one end of the rope to Gil and holding onto the other, he smiled. "Be right back." Pulling out a crowbar, the rogue hooked the tool around one of the ropes attached to the hooks and put his boot onto the rope, allowing him to slide down to the small boat.

Landing with a thud on to the boat Tolan looked at what was in front of him trying to figure out how best to approach it.

Just as Tolan’s feet touch the center bench of the little boat, the water around the vessel erupts with more piscine figures, two more of the sharkfolk, each one astride what appears to be an actual shark. The humanoids smoothly dismount, leaping to land on either side of the little rogue, but Magic!somehow fail to capsize the boat thus far.

I assume that Tolan is wearing the Cap. Tolan is flanked, and there's no room for anyone else on the little boat.

Storm is one of the people holding the boat close. If he releases it, there may be some consequences.

The sharks can currently be targeted by those acting immediately. It's not obvious that they can bite Tolan, but it's not out of the question.

Storm growled "What's going on down there?", he asked as he felt the pull of the added weight on the boat.( initiative rolled for if he's needed) "Get some more sailors over here in case I'm needed.", he yelled to who ever could hear.

Tolan's boot hit the boat. "Alright lets see what we have h-" The enemies rose up around him. The halfling looked at the rope in his hand, then to the bound figure in front of him. "Here goes nothing..." He moved as fast as he could to wrap the harness around the figure. "This better be worth it! Gil pull!" The slippery rogue darted from the fight and up the side of the ship.

Gil peered down as Tolan stuck the landing. And just as he landed, more of the shark-things surfaced to either side of the skiff. It was enough to make a preacher cuss. He flipped his staff, holding it head down over the railing, and howled at the water below.

"EY THERE, FISH'N'CHIPS! EYES UP IF YA WANTA SEE IT COMIN'!" The creatures craned their necks, one of them just in time to see three jets of flame lance down. Gil backed off of the railing before the other had the sense to toss its spear. "Tolan, can you tie the rope to whoever that is and ride up with 'em? Storm, pull as soon as he's ready! Morgan, try to finish off that sharkguy from 'ere to give 'em a few seconds!"

Morgan
right-aligned image

Morgan was upset. And she was also upset that Gil didn't seem to realize how upset she was. If he hadn't at least shown an effort to regather more of his strength, the primordial woman would have known how to turn her frustration into making him take care of himself. We are in a storm... His life is at risk! Does he not value his life...? As agitating as the half-elf's unreasonableness was to Morgan, it wasn't like she hadn't seen it in many of her male brethren before. Young elementals, playing the great warrior and getting themselves in trouble because they wanted to look big. They had upset her then, and even then they hadn't had an ear for her concerns. Looking at Gil as his mind swiftly pranced forward and he talked Tolan into climbing down to the boat, the tribal cleric at least couldn't see any ambitious need for recognition in Gil. He was simply careless. As a survivalist that made it her duty to take care of others, lacking authority over him gave Morgan quite the conundrum of how to put some sense into her packmate. Because he didn't look like he didn't know these things. He just forewent thinking about them. She had let go of him when he had started munching on the healing fruit given to her by Silvanus, and now she was just staring at him with her blank face and those pondering, deep-green eyes. Water and wind were tugging on her and she hadn't fully taken care of her own bleeding wounds yet, but with the struggling bundle in the boat below her, the primordial healer felt her undistracted presence was very much required. Even after she handed the nimble halfling the magical cap.

Together with the sailors, Tolan managed to prepare for a rescue that took more finesse than what Morgan had intended initially. Yet seeing her pack put thought into these things and the crew agreeing suggested to the water genasi that her own method had been a bit crude. Especially now that she knew that the storm had been used as cover for other marauding seafolk. Considering that all foes who had jumped onto the ship had perished so thoroughly, Morgan had highly suspected that they had struck them in full force and with conviction that they would easily overwhelm them. After all, if this was a planned assault like it seemed and these were experienced warriors, following a strategy that wouldn't cost their lives seemed like the minimum that she had expected of them. She hadn't believed in reinforcements, so Morgan had felt that the greatest threat awaiting the vulnerable halfling below would be the waves that would challenge his thin limbs. With Gil's magic item it had seemed to her that Tolan was safe to accept duty in front of the pack.

And just like that Morgan's heart fell when the sharks appeared and she was once more shown to have had the wrong intuition. In mere seconds Tolan was surrounded, struggling to get out of the boat as his frail body didn't allow him to get a measure of his rope in time. Feeling dismay rather than the thrill of battle, Umberlee's own already had her warhammer in her hand ready to jump the railing as the path was obstructed by lances of fire shooting down below. Storm called for men to help with the ropes and Gil asked for time to complete their measures, and although it went against all of Morgan's instincts and the promise that she had given Tolan before, she had the wherewithal to realize that the men of her pack had something in mind that she couldn't see. Thus she halted her dive. Instead she pulled the amulet of the crashing waves from her armor and called out an aquan prayer to the Wavemother which turned the next wave that meant to heave the boat into an explosion of radiant froth that sprayed to envelop the assailant to take him of his life. It was another affront to Schon as she had fortunately missed the first use of Morgan's divine magic that the cleric had wrought on her ship, but given the lack of time after drawing her hammer, the primordial woman saw no choice. Tolan... This is my fault...!

Fortunately for the heroes, the sharkfolk did not execute this ambush nearly as effectively. Before the enemy can act, Tolan slips the rope harness around the bundle, then moves to climb out of reach like the proper swashbuckler…until he finds that he lacks the upper body strength. The sailors have made it look easy.

But alone as the rogue may feel, he still has friends. Gil demonstrates his true magical prowess, projecting three fiery rays that nearly fully poach one of the sharkmen. It looks to retreat to the safety of the ocean, but Morgan reminds it who rules there. She coaxes a wave to obey Umberlee’s lieutenant, to sear the sharkman in a divinely boiling light. He drops lifeless onto the boat bench.

Now the halfling must only evade one sharkman…and two actual, terrifying sharks. The humanoid looks to decide this encounter with one move, by pushing Tolan into the water, but barely manages to even touch the dancing rogue. Meanwhile, the sharks flanking Tolan leap past the surface to chomp at him, but fare no better. The little man is putting on an amazing display of agility for his anxious audience!

OOCAll PCs can act!

The sharks are right beside Tolan, in the water, but there’s no engagement there, and they’re not technically flanking him, despite my phrasing above.

With his job done, Tolan turned to climb the rope to safety. However, the combination of stormy ocean and wet rope made the halfling's hands to loose grip. He could only get up a few feet before sliding back down to the boat.

With a loud splash and a thud, Tolan was flanked on both sides by more sharkman. He was sure this was the end. Closing his eyes tightly he prepared himself for the worst. There was flash of light followed quickly by the sound of a torrent of water. Slowly opening one eye the halfling was shocked to see one less enemy in front of him. He looked up to see Gil and Morgan giving him support from above. "Thanks!"

The celebration was short lived as the sharkman in front of him tried to push the small rouge into the water. It was pure instinct that kept Tolan alive. His allies bolstering he resolve, the nimble halfling stayed in motion dodging not only the sharkman's attack, but the two sharks jumping out of the water that could have bitten him in half. A quick look at the three enemies now trying to claim their next meal, Tolan locked his eyes on the bundle in the middle of the boat. "As much fun as this is...time to go?" Darting to the side, he jumped for the bundle and held on has hard as his little hands could. "Storm pull like you have never pulled before?"

Storm
Storm [Waited and worried. As he herd fighting below. Then he herd 'pull with all you got' from Tolan. So he readied himself.
"On my count we let go the rope with the boat and grab the other." He said to the sailors.
" 1... 2... 3!!!" And as he hit three he let go the boat rope, to whatever ends. And spun grabbing the other, with Tolan and package. zzzzzooooowwwwuuuuppppp!!!!He pulled so fast and hard you could see and hear the rope burn a notch in the railing. And Tolan and package came flying up to the railing as if catapulted up. Storm wrapped a forearm in the rope as he held it. And his other hand clasped the handel of his greatsword. Ready to cut down any threat to Tolan that came. As the sailors held with him.
