Hm. If I understand you, you're asking something of a deduction question. You know that the book spell is some kind of transportation, and believe that the scarification is some kind of charm/domination. I wouldn't say that the commonality of symbols tells you nothing about Glanteth's theory. It is true that Brimley could not tell you that the common symbols definitely reference an individual.

Hmm... is there any kind of knowledge check that myself or someone else might make to be more/less sure? Torgrun is quite the summoner (for example) - or Glanteth himself, who's emotionally invested in the theory, with a guidance and knowledge check of some sort... Should I continue the conversation anyways to ask Brimley IC? Edit: I just realized we both began our posts with the "hm" thinking. I just thought it was funny and worthy of pointing out, as I didn't do it on purpose to copy you.

I don't think so. If one of the PCs were exceptionally intelligent, maybe, but I think we all know that's not the case. Does it matter much, though? Whether it's a person, a place, or something else, the book spell could still work the same way(s), I would think.

Okay, your answer makes perfect sense. The only reason it would have mattered is that if it's a person rather than a place, then it would make a search-quest for that Elurik's Accessing the Planes manual unnecessary, as it would only help to identify a place. I'm letting it go. It looks pretty much unanimous that we're going to Izim's next anyways.

Nice. Best results are Glanteth helping Roland (who has guidance). IC though, it might make sense to do it the way you describe as Rolend hasn't met the man before. I'm leaning towards the first (as I can't help myself from metagaming - meaning I have trouble drawing proper lines between what I know and what my character knows), but hopefully secretID will weigh-in and set us straight on whatever the path is. At the same time, Glanteth had a boatload of trouble reading this guy in the past (he's only +3 untrained), so he'll be happy to pass that torch if possible. Whoever's rocking the insight with help needs to be able to inform the other party members of subterfuge/dishonesty from Izim without saying it outright. Maybe we can come up with some kind of code or body-language sign IC before we go in.

Alright just a short IC post to let people know Rolen's intent. It is going to be interesting - Rolen with high persuasion and Insight is going in cold.

OOC it sounds like 1) Maybe Izim knows about the Succubus and 2) we are talking about a pair of books - How to Summon Something for Dummies and Elurik's 'Accessing the Planes', which may or may not be useful/relevant to what we are going to do.

The summoning book is already in our possession, Elurik's Accessing the Planes is the one Brimley said may be helpful to find. I'm not sure we want to reveal that we have the summoning book to Izim. My understanding is that finding out if he knows where the Elurik's book is and/or where the succubus is are the 2 main pieces of info we're after from this guy.

None of us were ever able to get a read on this guy, so any impressions we passed on to Rolen would probably be wrong anyways.

As I recall, you never got an impression of dishonesty from your checks - not quite the same as no read. It could be no read or a good read.

IIRC, you never said we knew with any certainty (indicating a very good or very poor roll). I suppose that without seeing the roll, there's never a way to truly know with certainty for something like insight. I just went with the no-read assumption rather than the good or falsely good one. It's certainly the widest range of probability.
