I somewhat doubt we have the ability to glean what we wanted from the book without Brimley's scholarly know-how. I'm ready to go all-in with what info we have - show Vizim the summoning book and see what he makes of it - if everyone else is. I'm not sure if we can get anything back from him if we don't.

The more I look at Izim's picture, the more he creeps me out. It looks like he's wearing a wavy brown-haired wig on top of overly long and tattered gray hair. Then there's the beard: apparently, only the hair under his chin is gray, and he's grown it so long that he has it tied into a throat wattle ponytail.

I'm glad to hear that Rolen's getting a good read on him now, though. If he were an expert deceiver, he'd probably have better fashion sense.

Ah. He and I weren't distinguishing between those statuses, but he was pointing out that this isn't really a deal, since he isn't really gaining. Nonetheless, he agreed to help you in this limited way, subject to his stated conditions.

@secretID I can't imagine you'd make it easy for us to take her alive. I don't know of any spells we have that would make such a thing possible. Maybe Izim has a ghostbuster trap for demons...

You can ask him. In general, any time you deliver a finishing blow with a melee weapon, you can say that you want to knock the target out instead. There are other ways to disable without killing, of course. But you're the ones trying to make a deal...

Bringing her back. There are two parts here. First, we can either incapacitate her (seek below), or stabilize her after driving her to 0 (assuming she gets Death Saving Throws). Second, we are going to need something to restrain her (including any magic) as we bring her back. Sounds like we should ask Izim about/for something with which to restrain her.


Sometimes an attacker wants to incapacitate a foe, rather than deal a killing blow. When an attacker reduces a creature to 0 hit points with a melee attack, the attacker can knock the creature out. The attacker can make this choice the instant the damage is dealt. The creature falls unconscious and is stable.

Aye. We need tools to do the restraining etc. Perhaps we can also get a little something else to help take her down. I bet Izim has lots of little trinkets we can borrow. It's in his best interest to give us as much help as possible.

Thanks for the insight from all of you. Sounds like a deal to try and make. I'll post up tomorrow - hopefully after other people too. I'm definitely liking Rolen (and PR) a lot so far and everything he's already had to offer our group.
