Sorry, I'm just catching up.

A quick bit. Rolen is Undead Hunter. So, the idea of the Halfling possibly being a Vampire rated a mention. However, I don't want to pursue it right now.

@SecretID, It sounds like Walton could bring whoever is on the other end of the ritual to us.

That would certainly make our lives easier, but it's not how I interpreted Brimley's explanation. I'm curious to see how he clarifies.

I apologize for being obtuse, but these two statements seem highly contradictory to me. Also, with the ritual requiring a "permission giver," I would think it's somehow tied to that entity, if in an abstract way. After re-reading both statements several times, I think I'm understanding that a reverse summoning will only include whoever is randomly closest to the target location at the moment of casting. Is that right?

That's because different people said them. (: Izim was correcting Rolen. I edited my post to make the formatting clearer now.

So we're clear: Walton can prepare the modified ritual for you in the time you have remaining with the book. To write instructions on how to do different modified rituals is what would take days. He also hasn't agreed to do that.

Understood (at least now it is). If the prime location turns into a dead-end and we need to go to the hells, we'll deal with that eventuality if/as it arises. I think our main worry is the way back - or return ritual. Is that covered as well?

Also (just to clarify), the modified ritual just removes the notification and necessary permissions of the entity in question, correct?

That, and empowers the ritual caster to choose which of the two destinations and which way the conduit goes.

Glanteth has scribed scrolls during his last 2 downtimes. Would that experience factor into the roll at all? Also, what skill(s) will be consulted (or is that a secret)?

Hm. No, nothing for scroll making. Pitch me on whatever else you think might apply. Arcana comes to mind, maybe certain tool skills? I haven't looked over the sheets for that.

Rolen is more a song and dance kind of guy (Disguise Kit).

The only thing that might be useful is his Helm of Comprehend Languages.

I'd give some credit for Comprehend Languages.

BTW, for this adventure I'll allow you to interpret the Helm in either of two ways:
1) RAW, such that it requires casting, and allows multiple simultaneous castings; or
2) the way I think they should have made it, that it automatically functions as an active Comprehend Languages on anyone wearing it.
One way or the other for the whole adventure, of course.

I prefer #2 and seems to be consistent with the way At-Will abilities work (e.g., Eldritch Invocations).

Makes sense to me. Who's our best dice roll for this, or should we just quit metagaming and guess? At this point, it sounds like Rolen with the helm.

Not to be contrary though, but most at will abilities require an active casting - just no spell slots/memorization involved. I don't want to change the rules for this outing to have all of a Sucubus' at will charm abilities constantly active in a certain radius or anything. I'd rather just flummox this check instead. These things tend to work both ways, after all.

Er...you're checking whether this ruling on the helm will affect anything for the enemies? No.

It's just a much appealing way for the item to work, IMO, and it happened to be discussed in a recent adventure PR and I were both on. I think I would do it for any item that empowered the user to cast a Self spell with a duration more than a minute. There are probably a few other items like this, though none come to mind. It doesn't change a ton, because the player could just renew the ability every 59 minutes (for Comprehend Languages).

This is kind of the way I like to play things. The 1 hour+duration stuff can be up all the time, the 1 min stuff (e.g., Guidance) needs to be explicitly cast.
