I sometimes tend to see the outline of a game and jump right into character building without thinking about how the character will fit into the game. I've recently been thinking about how I'm going to roleplay Sam in a crime family and came to realize that I had done that with Sam.

After some more thinking, I've decided to pull Sam as my character application for this game. I rarely keep character concepts but this time I think Sam's worth saving. The problem is I have no idea for a character submission going forward and with the limited application time, I might run out of time to put something together.

I figured you'd be in charge of Sea Protection payments. Lots of pirates out there, be a shame if you missed your "insurance" payment and ran into one...

You could have also been in charge of making sure things fall onto or out of boats as they should

Our crime family's main territory is by the docks. Their main racket is smuggling. I just assumed this was the plan for Sam all along.

AlphaZ and Imveros are right that a pirate can absolutely have a place here. But I completely understand if you don't think you can pull of the RP, I'd rather you have a character your 100% comfortable with than force you into something you don't really feel upto playing

Age: 153. Despite appearances, he's not yet middle-aged. It's not the years, it's the mileage.

Description Elves, almost by definition, are defined by their graceful, slender physique. Calorean... is not that sort of elf. Even by human standards, he would be considered overweight; on the tall elven frame, he appears remarkably heavy, indeed. But an elf he is, and so despite his obesity, he carries himself with self-assured, perhaps surprising, grace. Calorean favors clothing that reflects upon its living origins. It is difficult to see much of the bygone plants in the fabric spun from their fibers, and so that leads him to favor leathers and furs where practical -- choices which certainly do nothing to dispel his image as some sort of mad necromancer. That's only reinforced by his typical expressions. Although those who get to know him learn that he actually strives for a life of personal contentment and satisfaction, most of the Family troubles him with stupid questions about stupid problems and so sees him only with a scowl... I'm still looking for a picture here, and probably would have had this application together long before if one had been forthcoming. Body diversity in fantasy illustration isn't good in the best of times, and it's particularly lacking in elven art. The search continues.

Background Many elves go through a period in their youth where they dabble in self-indulgent excess. But as they mature into adulthood, they put those experiences behind them in favor of newfound wisdom. Calorean was never like most elves. Blessed with long life, beauty, and arcane prowess, some elves fall prey to the belief that they are inherently better than the other races; Calorean, instead, quickly came to believe that they -- that he -- should instead use those innate gifts to have better things. Better food, better wine, better finery, better passions. In short, he was a consummate hedonist. At the same time, his racial propensity for magic manifested in an unusual way. Although he showed no capacity for arcane education, he quickly mastered a unique Art that channeled the echoes of the past, even of prior generations, to produce spell effects as real as any wizard's incantations. It was a quick leap to move from drawing power from these psychic echoes to actually calling upon the fallen through the powers of necromancy. A hedonist necromancer with unique magical potential was an irresistible lure for the divine agents of Urgathoa, the Pallid Princess, and Calorean needed little encouragement to swear himself to her causes. His community, on the other hand, had seen quite enough. Despite their self-righteous claims of personal freedom and individual agency, he was persecuted for his choices and his beliefs, and ultimately exiled. Several years later he had found his way to Parsantium. The life of a necromancer (of any sort) is never an easy one, what with most people's bigoted insistence that his magic and his faith represent an intolerable abomination fit only for destruction. Also, the cost of finely-cut onyx these days has gotten simply ridiculous. To say nothing of the cost of a good feast or three. Had he ended up with fellow elven necromancer Nekyia and her La Morte family, things might have worked out differently. But their paths didn't cross at the time, and Anthony La Speranza's work paid the bills. Since then, he's risen relatively quickly in the ranks of the Family. What's even more profitable than a sweat shop? A sweat shop where the workers don't sweat, if you know what I mean... Needless to say, his nickname in the Family is a reference to his powers, and not -- not -- a mocking reference to his physical appearance. Initiates and (especially) outsiders should be cautious about when they use that moniker. Calorean's not the sort to kill over a personal slight, but he's not above an "accidental" cursing.
