FYI, though I try to be accommodating, I like to have the NPCs and the environment react realistically, so the PCs (and players) are accountable for their actions. I wanted to allow for the PCs to work out Storm’s issues, but it looked like that wasn’t happening, so the captain acted as I think any captain would. I don't think any captain would tolerate this kind of chaos on a ship.

Right now, Tolan has made a suggestion to try to help things, but Schon will need to hear something convincingly conciliatory from Storm before she allows him to continue aboard. My understanding is that no such statement is coming, but I'll wait another day or two before resolving this.

Works for me, I think having consequences to player decisions is a large part of what makes RPGs thrilling.

I was to the understanding that the sword and double. single out of storm meant shut and do as I say or die. so if he talks he dies.... Sure feels that way.

Also if Til hasn't gotten enough of an answer to storms worth then I could have him go full lightening rage monster till ID Kills him....( not exactly a plan).

Oh, I think Schon expects Storm to talk rather than to stay silent. I think Schon has probably not understood that having a phobia is something that will make you act irrational from fear. If Storm can show her that he's not a monster and that he is a rational being, something he has maybe learned during his time in becoming a recognized cleric, then she could be helped to understand that Storm isn't a threat to her ship and crew.

About Gil, I'm sure that he realizes having someone strong on his side is valuable. But I think he will need some time to get over being manhandled by Storm. I think for now it's okay to let him be mad, but maybe an apology down the line would go a long way.

Maybe apologizing to Schon for acting scary would be a good idea too. Storm can be very threatening if he gets mad, but Schon can't allow her crew to be threatened like that.

Gil won't be much bothered by being picked up, his background is rough-and-tumble.

His concern at this point is that he's not at all sure Storm is actually able to do the mission. The mission requires sailing, maybe through rough seas and storms, and maybe fighting while at sea. Storm is cracking up and running away while on a ship that hasn't even left the dock.

Gil may come across as very challenging, but what he means is "I want to know that I can rely on you. I'm about to put myself in a position where I absolutely will die for you in a fight, and I need to know you'll have your head together enough to hold up your end instead of running away."

The problem from Gil's point of view is that Storm is running away before a fight even started.

Storm has a 12 char... but as you saw he fell trying to run....his dex is low. Used that in there a bit. Just not sure storm will be able to explain things very well.

I think a show of good faith and effort will be much more important than having a way with words. Saying calmly that Storm can follow Schon's orders would probably be enough if he doesn't trust himself to say more. Morgan has a charisma of 7 and she was still able to convince Schon to take her along.

Hmm, I guess in a situation where everybody is sticking to playing their character fully, the natural story this develops into might be Storm not coming with us? I would have Morgan vouch for Storm and help to try to convince Schon to take Storm with us, but not only does Morgan have her own bad standing with Schon, but she has also only met Storm for the first time today and couldn't be certain to vouch for him in any way. She takes giving her word very seriously and I'm not sure what word I could give here.

If you're not going to allow Storm to have a better understanding and ability for this situation, I'm not sure if any of our characters can convince Captain Schon either.

I'd really rather see Storm finding a way forward though, because I thought the idea of helping him overcome part of his fear by confronting it sounded like a good story to tell with this group.

Tolan will try again. I just need to come up with a reason. His charlatan nature might help. Just depends on if Storm will say he is lying or not, if this doesn’t work the Tolan is out of ideas.

I haven't seen that. It's theoretically possible that there's some other solution with some very creative Deception on Schon or something, but I currently have no ideas in that direction.
