rhazor turns to the others to the beach to watch the amphibious defenders awaiting them. "How many to you see?" he asks the others, especially the one in the outlook before he tries to count the foes on his own. At that Cha-kra turned around with an alien, curt motion, and after a few steps he was bearing down on the human rogue, putting him face to face with his chitinous face and mandibles. ~They number slightly less than three dozen. Maybe one dozen of them ready to oppose an invasion.~ There was an eery stillness to Cha-kra as he conveyed his thoughts to all around him, and only a single snap of his mandible created actual noise. ~More importantly. Who in our group possesses magical healing? Who possess magic at all?~ His antennae quivered slightly. ~Magic is very practical. I want to know what our party can do. If we land and will make these creatures tell us if they know about the progress of our prey and whether they can decipher more of the landmarks on the map, then I want to plan with all our capabilities to achieve their compliance. We might gain more with a non-violent approach. Any of you may talk.~ Finally Cha-kra turned his facetted gaze away from Rhazor and regarded the entirety of his party. ~Does magic exist to alter thoughts or to break wills?~ Briggs doubts diplomacy of any kind would work on such a creature, and even an inveterate scoundrel like Briggs finds the idea of torture distasteful. But the mention of Grung piques his interest. "Ah, now maybe they can be reasoned with. I've worked with a Grung before, and I must say he was a right decent sort. Lent me his own magic sword when I had no other weapon that would wound our foes. If one of us can translate, I'd be happy to open negotiations." "Our friend Briggs, you have seen, is a man of action, wielding those pokers with finesse. I doubt that our avian companion possesses the ability to master the vocalizations often required in the working of magic. You already know me to be proficient - to say the least - in the arcane arts, but I do not engage in the distasteful manipulation of minds. Perhaps Confor? And Rhazor here - well, he can answer for himself. You do have a certain sly air about you..." Snap Kick waves a hand before Arrogaio defiantly, and declaims dramatically, "A la peanut butter sandwiches!" Nothing magical ensues, and the kenku clacks his beak in irritation. "If I could change the minds of others, I wouldn't start with the newts or grungs." Not expecting that he could get the island inhabitants to negotiate, but deciding it wouldn't hurt to try, the warlock stepped up to the edge of the boat and conjured up the Misty Visions Invocationillusion of a the illusions he can create can fill a cube 15 feet on a sidelarge white flag being waved back and forth above his head. "PARLEY!" He shouted the phrase in Common, then in Primordial. "We don't want to fight you! Will you talk to us?" He again repeated the phrase in both tongues. The lizards wave in response before Yelling in primordial "Hero! Hero! They will defeat the serpent of stone! Hero! Hero!" The boat docks into the sand being roughly three feet in depth. The shore is a sandy beach of palm trees though as the trees continue they are swallowed into a jungle of ferns and vines. The beach goes east and west for a few miles in each direction making it hard to tell the width of the island before it begins to bend. A large mountain is seen in the far horizon past or perhaps within the jungle itself. Last edited by delpinator; Oct 11th, 2022 at 06:18 AM. |

Though the crew remains unsure of their new acquaintances there seems to be no threat.
"Ha ask the statues that woship the serpent. silver wyrm is on the mountain watching, always watching. Watch for the dust in the fane it is the dreams. The fen, fey the fey keep watch over the dream." |

[FIELDSET="Briggs IC"]
![]() To his friends, he says, "I don’t speak Primordial, but it sounds like they want us to defeat the dragon? Yet, aren’t silver dragons generally benevolent, or at least, benign? Something’s not stacking up." He adds, "But before we get there, it looks like we’ll be crossing paths with the Fey. Does anyone speak Sylvan?"

The group garhers to discuss the new information and when asked about the mountain a grung points to the mountain sticking out of the jungle.
The jungle itself seems to be calling as the palm trees and ferns push into it. Confor seems odly silent and distant and meerly returns to the ship lost in thought. |
