I think having a crew obliges us to steal a small ship. Isn't that how it works?

Huh. If that's even remotely suggested by the party, I'll have to evaluate if Cha-kra has any issues stealing a boat.

@delpinator:
Can I make a History check for Cha-kra to be aware of security measures in the port and how Westhaven would react if they learned about us adventurers stealing a boat? And maybe a second roll to evaluate how seafaring keelboats are and if they are good enough to advance our quest?

Depending on the answers, there are three options for Cha-kra to react that I can imagine right now.

1) He doesn't care and would agree to keep the boat as part of our treasure at the end of the quest. Either as an item to keep around ourselves or to liquidate into gold as our adventure rewards.
2) He doesn't care about stealing it but doesn't want anything to do with the boat after it served its purpose.
3) He thinks the idea of stealing a boat is stupid and tells whoever brings up the idea of stealing that they are stupid.

Now, OOC I'll reveal that I think that stealing a transport vessel is a pretty fun narrative, even though I'm not sure whether the party's alignment is grey enough for us to agree on that course of action. If we're only joking about it, Cha-kra won't be the first to bring it up as something he would consider. But if another character (maybe our newest goons) suggest that the idea of stealing a keelboat is an actual options, it would have to come down to those History rolls if Cha-kra would think breaking the law like that is too much trouble and be averse to it. Honestly, in most cases Cha-kra would probably be the last to actually push for stealing stuff when he's currently aware that he can get what he wants by simply giving Rockabasher gold. The only reason to steal a boat would be to save some money, which Cha-kra actually doesn't care about.

I think it would be fun as well. Does this have any implications we will need to worry about within the larger we st marches? Go ahead and roll your history though.

I thought delpinator was kidding, but Arrogaio definitely won't prey on others.

Edit: I guess not. Arrogaio will defeat you all!

Stealing ships isn't like regular stealing. How many times did Barbosa and Jack Sparrow steal the Black Pearl from each other? It just gives pirates a reason for adventure. Anyway we're just borrowing it. Totally gonna give it back after we're done.

Cha-kra got a (18) on his History check.

If Arrogaio has morals, I don't think we'll steal that boat. Cha-kra would also have to be persuaded that it's worth the trouble when we can just pay for it.

As for the larger implications, I figure falling out with the local authorities should be supported as plot relevant by the GMs. In this quest it might not happen, but if it did this should probably be something the GM enclave gets clued in and that players would have to add to their note section in the party planning thread so that GMs can consider it for the sake of future adventures.

@secretID:
How does Arrogaio feel about borrowing a boat that we'll give back?

Arrogaio will skip out on splitting a check, but he won't just walk off with property. Is Arrogaio the only party member morally opposed to theft? Has he fallen in with *shudder* the wrong crowd?

If he had to borrow a horse to catch a fleeing kidnapper, maybe, but we're still talking about theft here, without a doubt.

I think we're really cheating ourselves of doing this IC. Is a PC (or a pirate hireling) going to suggest stealing a ship?

Suluruk while in the tavern told you of longships or keelships. While long ships are better made for ocean travel both can handle being near the coast and light jaunts into deeper water if sailed by a strong and skilled sailors. Some mention a group of sailors called the argonauts who hopped from island to island and fought monsters.

The difficulty would be very difficult to near impossible dc25. Though you may be able to pull the difficulty down depending on your actions. West Haven is a sea port that relies on getting adventures into the port. Pirates have been getting through thus increasing security.

Well, if the authorities have a captured hull they haven't sold off yet, then it isn't really stealing. It's just Mother Nature maintaining the delicate balance of life among the predators.

If Arrogaio and Cha-Kra don't know the boat was taken without permission, it should be fine.

Oh, a 100% Cha-kra is not going to ask where the boat came from if someone organizes it without his knowledge.

I've gotten a bit confused here. As I understand it, the PCs are at the docks, with four pirates in our employ, about to talk to Rockabasher, looking for the map locations - or maybe just the thorp? Is that right?

If that's right, I'm happy to have Arrogaio interact with Rockabasher, but I thought someone with better CHR skills might want the first crack.
