Shadowrunner, New to RPG Crossing
I LOVE Shadowrun (particularly 5th edition) and want to find out how I am able to perhaps find a game as well as look for players for my current game I am DMing. Let me know if you have any info for me or if you just wanna say hi. Glad to find another awesome TTRPG community |

Howdy TheSoftWord,
Welcome to our little home away from home and we are an awesome community...if I do say so myself rather immodestly. We are always looking for new GMs for whatever RPG you want to run. I'm not a Shadowrun person, but I'm sure we have a few here. Regarding finding other players, we discourage advertising for games on other sites, but I'm sure once you realize how awesome our site is you'll want to move your game here! As an introduction, I'm a D&D 5e player, but I also love L5R, King Arthur Pendragon, GURPS, and RuneQuest. Tell us a bit more about yourself. Will you stick with Shadowrun or maybe branch out? As I mentioned, we have a lot of RPG systems from which to choose and we're willing to teach. How about genre, do you prefer high magic, low magic, historical fiction, high tech, horror, sci fi/future tech, etc.? Do you have a favorite character class, race? Do you know how much wood a woodchuck chucks, if a woodchuck, could chuck wood? There are a lot of choices for various RPG systems here, although PF and D&D are the two most common. We have quite a few games with very long legs here. In fact, I talk about one below. To start, you may want to check out a solo game. This will help you learn the site tools, since each site is a bit different. As far as finding games goes, try here. This is where there are games seeking players. It can be a bit daunting but don't give up. It may take a few applications before you get accepted...but it's worth it once you're in. This is a great place to scratch your RPG itch and interact with some great DMs and players. There is some incredible role playing going on here. I thought I was a pretty good story teller, but I have been put to shame by the quality of many of the players...and I have learned a lot. This is a place where the people are welcoming, where the games are interesting, and where generally they only expect you to post a few times a week. I've been playing D&D for a very long time and I thought I've seen it all, but this site has some amazing games going on. I've been playing (storytelling as much as rolling) for a few years now in a game that has been going on continuously for four decades, started tabletop and moved online two decades ago. It's set in an alternate Europe where the worlds of Tolkien and Howard existed in ages past. So there is a hint of LOTR and a hint of Conan in it and since it's set in an alt Europe it somehow feels familiar. This is just one example and there are other great campaigns on RPGX. You should take some time to "stroll around" the site and see if anything catches your eye. I hope to see you around on the boards.

! Thanks for the warm welcome here, folks.
@Ildrahil. Yeah, this definitely seems a hub for lots of different games. That's one of my favourite aspects about TTRPGs is their (some times unexpected) ability to dive deep into the cool, niche worlds that people want to experience. That's part of what pulls me to Shadowrun. I love the D6 mechanical system and the way it plays realistic with complexity, I love the relatability of the now-but-close-future world (and how it's easy to find modern battlemaps), and I LOVE the mix of Fantasy and Cyberpunk. I'm sticking to Shadowrun right now and only my current game because I know my logistical limits as to how much I am ultimately capable of giving to (9 campaigns in a week during the 2020 height). This is the first campaign that I've run in a little while and I want to give it the dedication that it deserves, but I'm having a tiny bit of trouble finding players who are of the same mindset. My primary goal right is to see if I can find some likeminded individuals who are compatible with a play-by-post system and contribute to a character/story rich campaign alongside the gritty dark of combat and morality of a corporate-run world. That being said, should things go smoothly then this campaign time will lessen as they do when everyone starts performing within their roles, then I'll certainly be branching out and looking to play in a PbP campaign. I have a flexible schedule and am able to contribute greatly to non-session campaigns. My play style tends towards either the Stealth Archers (no relation to Skyim, I swear) or gadgeteers of a drone-rigger keeping such intense sensory scrutity of the nearest 4 kilos that a fly couldn't lick it's butt without one of the fly-spys recoring it. I feel like a forever-dm, though as the last 3 campaigns that I have been a part of have spiraled. I just want to conclude one story :'( Thanks! Will do I appreciate your welcome P.s., a little gopher told me it was 64 chucked woods per glass of milk. But he looked a little sketchy and I think he was just trying to get gossip-revenge on Woodchuck for their failed ops last week down in Aztlan so I'm not putting faith in that fuzzy little bigmouth. @Admin Dirk This is my default state XD I hope so! I know it makes mine when I find someone who has the self-awareness, organization, and discipline to make it happen. I'll start seeking them out and maybe I'll find someone looking for a player that'll make me rethink how many campaigns I want to be in right now. |

Hey, Softword! I'm sure the Shadowrun signal has been activated and you'll be hearing from that community soon! In the meantime, welcome to the site. I hope you enjoy poking around and discovering areas that you want to join or participate in. There are several threads in the Open Gaming section where you can jump right in.

welcome TheSoftWord!
(That was challenging to write without hitting the space-bar) This is a pretty cool community and the best group of play-by-posters I've had the pleasure to run with. Best of luck and hope to see you around!

Hey, thanks for the recommendation. I have a couple more questions about formatting. I've checked out several story threads and love what I see. But what I observe is that there's a lot of posts that are high-quantity words from single players. In my own game on discord, there's very few times when there's a lot of text because players are often discussing between themselves. Messages can be minutes or hours between each other and can some times be even just a short line, but this seems challenging in a thread-based system. Like having a convo via email instead of messaging. What are some solutions that others have found for this?

Also, is there a place to find replies to threads that have been commenting on? Or do I have to remember the threads that I've commented on and check back in on them manually to see if someone's responded?
Thanks for your patience with my learning and your effort towards answering my ignorant questions |

Then click edit options (under the settings and options tab on the left) Third box down says Default Thread Subscription Mode I set mine to subscribe me to every thread I comment in and to send me emails when they updated Alternatively, you can subscribe one thread at a time from the thread tools drop down menu top right. Then you can check your my account tab and it'll show you all the updates to threads you're subscribed to. Which is handy if you don't opt for email notifications

Goodmorning,
Welcome over here and I admit I had to laugh about the confused state, it's indeed the default setting over here . Let us know if you need help and/or guidance, and if you want to share the last book you have read -> feel free to do so ;-)

Welcome TheSoftWord.
I know it's been a while since you asked but, the way most people here resolve difficulty with conversations is exactly what you saw: longer posts and less real tit-for-tat style than you would have at a table. |
