Iyani was frightened but still curious, so she took the stone with her as she finished her swim/search using her magic. Once she re-boarded the ship, she took a moment to perform a quick shake of her hair and clothing to prevent from watering up the area. Afterwards Iyani made her her way over to Alain.

Alain, can you make anything of this? I found it on the riverbed. It seems to hold a lost or dormant power, perhaps something necromantic, I am not sure. as she handed him the stone to examine.

Alain looks from Iyani to the stone slowly, he takes it in his hand and he examines it for arcane writings after casting detect magic on the stone, "If it is necromantic then it isn't the kind of trinket we want with us..."

Alain's magical examination of the stone yielded much of the same result as Iyani's had. Though the stone didn't have much in the way of magical power imbued in it anymore, at one time, a long long time ago, the stone had been the repository for incredibly powerful magic that had a feel much like necromancy, but not exactly.

Both
Dice Knowledge: Religion:
1d20+4 (5)+4 Total = 9
Iyani and
Dice Knowledge: Arcana:
1d20+2 (3)+2 Total = 5
Alain wracked their brains looking at the writing on the stone, as they tried to figure out what it meant, or at least who or what culture wrote it.

But they both came up completely blank. The stone was a real mystery indeed.

Iyani shrugged. Well, it's not like I've never seen a strange thing or two under the water before, we could just throw it back in. But I am curious as to what it use to do. It must have really been something to even still echo lost powers. Perhaps someone in town might know, some archaeologist or something. Ah well, guess I will hold on to it for awhile. Then when she was about to put it away, Oh, I wonder if Alistair might know. she tossed it in the a little and caught it with her hand, Let's go see him. as she made her way below deck to visit Alistair in his quarters.

Iyani knocks on the stateroom door, Alistair, are you here? I found something that you might find interesting. as she waits for his answer.

OOCNot sure if he's been on lately last log in was 5 days ago. I am unable to see his sheet so not sure if he would know anything or not, but she will ask anyways.

"Necromancy. Not too popular of a school of magic from what I recall. Dangerous as well. I will not pretend to be ok about having that thing with us, but I guess I can tollerate it for now," Tayrren stated as the conversation began to head below decks. "If anything odd starts to happen I say we get rid of it immediately; although, the sooner it is out of our possession the better I will feel. Better still would to see it lost to time again or destroyed out right."

Iyani smiled, You know, a long time ago Necromancy was the study of Life and Death. Several healing abilities were formed by using Necromancy. In time people began to separate Healing with Life and Death with Necromancy. So who knows, this could be one of those lost artifacts. Necromancy it's self is not evil, its how it is uses that determines that. Example, necromantic spell to destroy undead. Tis like a sword, a tool. For war, for defense? That's up to the user.

The cadets discussed the mystery of the stone and their plan of attack for the rest of the trip up the river. The day before they were to reach Watershed, they were approached by Brannon.

"Well I hope that you have managed to come up with a good plan of attack. Is there anything that you would like me to take care of before we reach town?"

Iyani nods, Yes sir, if you could be so kind as to relinquish the uniform, gun and any other apparel that might distinguish me as a member. I would like to look completely incognito. Perhaps a public dishonorable discharge where the other cadets and soldiers (if there are any spies among them) would see us discharged as we leave the area to become wanderers and the like. Of course you know differently. How better else than to pick up a discharged member who might have turned against the opposing force you wish to beat. They might have information one could use.

"Hm, that's not a bad idea, you cadets ARE quite devious." He pondered for a minute.

"Let's not make it too over the top and public though, it would be better for them to have never heard of you at all. So how about I have the boat stop at one fishing village earlier, then I'll record your dishonorable discharge in my logs for 'conduct unbecoming of a future officer in the Andoran military' and spread a few rumors about the crazy activities you persuaded the other cadets to get up to involving some river dolphins and a local fisherman's daughter." He chuckled to himself.

"Di.. dishonorable discharge?!" Tayrren was nearly beside himself with disbelief and rage at the suggestion. "Sir, I must protest, I cannot accept this! My record is perfect, but to have this placed upon it would be a disgrace to my father. I could never face him again." His eyes seemed to go empty, staring but not seeing, locked someplace near yet very far. With a thud and a clatter, he fell to his knees, his musket falling from his shoulder and his head hanging below his shoulders.

"There must be some other way. I am willing to hide my association to the Andoran military since it was a direct command, but to out right remove all association through dishonorable discharge?" Snapping his head up again and clasping his hands together as though in prayer, his eyes locked with the Generals', "Please, sir..." he trailed off, not knowing what other words to speak.

"Your father?" Brannen's eyes narrowed, "if he's not an idiot your father will understand when this is all over."

"Look, you'll be reinstated upon completion. Cadet Iyani's plan is a good one, if necessary I'll order you to do it but I thought that you'd understand the need. Do you really think that your father's public perception is more important than your safety, the safety of your fellow cadets, and the good of all of Andoran?"
He looked a combination of confused and angry.

Alain merely smiled at the exchange as he casually laid back near the edge of the boat, "Words are wind Tayrren, and any discharge is just words with an opinion by a superior behind them. What is worth it anyway is doing good for the world and not just for the military. Count this as an imaginary freedom to do good at your heart's content without Brannen having to prepare half an army just to escort us out of a village when they find out that we are following orders."

Iyani smiled at the captains comments. Shortly after, she had pooled her items together that were to be left in his possession.

Once she was ready, she looked at the others. Shall we go enjoy the beautiful day and fresh air on deck?

"As long as the beautiful day consists of activities unbecoming of the Andoran military especially if it involves a fisherman's daughter." Alain jokes, "Or Iyani you could play the fisherman's daughter and I shall be the undisciplined military boy." he continues half-heartedly as he stresses the joke. He packs light, holding most of the gear he needs into a rucksack or on his person.
