Character Creation

Here are the basics for creating character sheets:

Ability ScoresI would prefer we wrote them up instead of rolling for them. I'd rather you like your scores and agree with them instead of plugging in random numbers or feeling a little behind in an area.

Not everyone needs to have amazing stats to have an amazing game. One of my favorite characters had a 6 Constitution. However, if you have a 6 Charisma, just remember that your character is 'that guy.' You know, 'that guy' that no one invites, no one wants to be around, 'that guy' that everyone jokes about behind his back. 'That guy' that no one can remember his name because he's about as memorable as the number of chairs at a bar.

So, basically, let me know what you want your stats to be. Be reasonable within the 3 to 18 range--remember that a score of 18 is pretty heroic, while 20+ represents the pinnacle of a human's natural development without training. Training and focus represent the bonuses you get at 4, 8, 12, etc.

If you'd rather do ability scores differently, let me know!

FeatsTake whichever feats you like, just let me know if you want to do anything 3rd-party.

SkillsAll skills are as useful as you make them. I will do my best to remember to roll Perception and Knowledge checks for you, since play-by-post takes so much time to go back and forth.

Profession and Craft skills will be helpful as well. Anytime you're around something that has to do with your chosen skill, feel free to roll a check if I don't volunteer information.

EquipmentUse your character thread to discuss equipment. There are plenty of places to 'acquire' magic items, but they aren't typically something every family owns due to their expense.

Any other questions/ideas/discussions? You can ask them here or in your character thread. Just kindly keep the OOC in the OOC.

HitpointsThe usual way I've done hit points is to take max at 1st level, then:

1. Roll the rest of the levels, or;

2. Take 1/2 + 1. So, a barbarian would get 7hp (+Con bonus) per level.

And feel free to mix and match those. Roll for a couple levels, take 1/2+1 for a couple levels, whatever you like.

...

Another option I've toyed with but never tried, is to set the minimum you can get on a roll equal to your Con bonus. So, if you had a +4 Con and 1d8 for hit points, you re-roll anything that is less than a 4. Just an idea--people with high constitution should be sturdier than others, right? What do you guys think?

This sounds really cool, actually.

I would be willing to try out the reroll under con bonus. It sounds like an interesting method.

For stats, would a point buy work? Or maybe just toss out a few numbers and we can put them in whichever stat? Saves us from the dice being super nice to one player and really mean to another.

Hp, that sounds reasonable to me.

You could just come up with your own values for what you think your character should have.

That method of determining hit points, what happens if your constitution modifier goes up when you hit level 4 or so on? I'd figure the roll would still be set, for simplicity's sake if nothing else, but it was a thought I had.

I say your minimum die roll should affect all of your rolls, including prior rolls. There is a very small chance you would roll low enough for that to make an enormous difference, and a wizard with a +8 Con would still only have 6HP + Con per level.

This definitely only applies to normal Con before enhancement bonuses (such as from a magic belt).

Would be a pain to have to reroll every time someone cast Bear's Endurance, haha.
