Resolute (Ex) At 2nd level, whenever the cavalier takes damage from a melee or ranged attack while wearing heavy armor, the cavalier can convert 1 point of lethal damage to 1 point of nonlethal damage. He can use this ability once each time he takes damage. This ability cannot be used to convert ability damage, ability drain, or energy damage to nonlethal damage. At 6th level, and every four levels thereafter, the amount of damage the cavalier can convert increases by 1.

Hey everybody, I'd like your opinion on something. I am getting a Discovery this level. I also get Precise Bombs (lets me target splash damage) as a bonus Discovery, for being part of the Grenadier class, and which is the only real "must have" Discovery on my list.
So my question is, would you like me to use my Discovery to continue developing my bombs (either a new element or a Smoke Bomb), or would you rather I spend it on Infusions so that you can use my Extracts? Note that most of my Extracts currently are ranged buffs, with the exceptions being (in order of usefulness to the rest of the party, IMO) Cure Light Wounds, Disguise Self, Identify, and Crafter's Fortune. I may get other party useful buffs later, but only once I see how often you guys use my extracts. So you get a choice between my being more useful in battle, or turning me into a free potion factory. Oh, and I'm choosing half HD for my hit points this level.

Grazz,
Well, to paraphrase G.I. Joe, battling is only half the battle. We still have lots of other things we need to do. We've got a Dwarven Shielded Fighter as a solid defensive center, a Cavalier and a Witch for physical and magical offense, etc. I think that having somebody who could Disguise Self and Identify would work well and enhance our flexibility, which is always a good thing. The things that follow from those could only be good, and free potions is a nice bonus. All that said, this is your character, not the party's character. When you created this character you had a goal in mind. Pursue that goal to it's end. Trying new things and experiencing different builds is one of the things that makes this hobby fun. If you want to make him the niftiest bomb thrower out there, then go for it. If you want a giggling mad scientist brewing up whatever his twisted mind can concoct, then that's what you should pursue. Or if you want a mentally well-balanced individual who is equally capable of melting a hole in a wall as thoroughly as blowing up a charging enemy, then this should guide your actions. Whatever you do, we'll manage. It's not as if the scenario is built to cater to only specific characters.

Ok, maybe this is me being an idiot and not all that familiar with Pathfinder, but I'm still trying to figure out just exactly what everybody's character class is and how they fit in. The vast majority of my experience comes from ADnD and 3rd Edition. It also didn't help my understanding when we lost one or two of us along the way. The halfling was a thief, I think...
- I've designed Figan as a Shielded Fighter, aiming for Stalwart Defender at a later level. Combat skills are heavily based on physical defense of self and allies and soaking up damage. Good bonuses vs. Fear. - Darian is a Cavalier - a fighter whose martial skills heavily revolve around horsemanship, but no slouch on foot either. - Onder is a Witch - Seems to function much like a Sorcerer, but with a more balanced approach between healing and combat. - Alen is something undead. Beyond that, I don't have a clue as to class. - Clavius is a holy man of some sort, but I'm not quite sure which class, nor how combat focused he is. - Orlog is an Alchemist, a mixer of potions that can be either combative or beneficial in nature. I'm not sure yet about specific combat capabilities beyond "a primarialy ranged combatant". To me, he's like an archer, but using bombs instead of arrows, and with lots of neat fringe benefits. Do I understand your characters correctly? Please, feel free to correct any misunderstandings I've got. I'd geatly appreciate it.

Witches can have a number of roles, depending on their Hexes mostly. Onder is aiming for a Healer/Debuffer type. He is after all a Gentleman first and foremost, being a witch and a scholar comes after that!

Clavius is an inquisitor. A combination of ranger/fighter and spontaneous divine casting. Think like a demon/undead hunter. Very limited number of spells, a lot of stuff that helps me track/identify monsters, fair amount of combat but not quite to fighter levels. Next level I will be able to use any teamwork feats I have with others in the party in any qualifying situation, regardless of whether that person actually has the feat themselves.

There are a couple of teamwork based feats that Figan's focus on using a shield we might be able to benefit from. The trouble is, I don't know if Figan can use them, or if he has the feat then somebody else with teamwork can do so as well, or what.
The feats I'm thinking about are Shield Wall and Shielded Caster. I'm not completely sure what would all would be needed for us to use those.

Teamwork feats require everyone involved to have them, though. The only exception is the Cavalier, who gets the ability to share certain teamwork feats with others for a limited amount of time per day.
In other words, you should probably be sucking up to Darian to get him to choose the feat you want. ![]()

Alen will be going ranger till 5th level to get ranger traps. Then take the kinslayer inquisitor archetype.
So you can expect plenty of heavy ranged backup from here out. |

Oops - slight hiccup; my apologies to you Sai - you were actually with Figan at Gibs' house. However, Figan seems to be fine on his own, so we'll put you with Clavius and Darian instead, and roll with it.
