Edit: Updated Garet's sheet to reflect some changes.

I see thanks.

I hope you don't mind another batch of questions Alashar, but here goes: could I spend some of my starting money on crafting instead of buying ? I could put my skills to use and make a few potions beforehand (if I can afford it). Next, about those re-roll, if you give your permission, could I reroll the 9 ? Marik could really use higher STR considering he grew up doing mostly physical work and is going to carry around the most from the party (small alchemist lab, cooking equipment, etc) and I can't sacrifice any other stat (dex for fighting, wis for healing and int for alchemy).

EDIT: Hey, what does Quin craft ?

Quinn currently crafts words alone, though one day she will likely craft something related to arcane weaponry, likely wands or potions, perhaps rings. For now, just words.

Sorry for the silence, shoddy Internet was but a passing ailment.

So I'm guessing until you pick a rank in Crafting you can't use it since you can't pick what you can craft before that ?

Also, I'm all for magic rings, bling-bling. Trade you a potion for one.

I would hardly consider that equivalent exchange. Throw in 24 more potions and we'll have a deal.

There's also the equivalent Feats required to make most magic items, namely Potions (Brew Potion, I think it is). After that you consume the materials and make a specific amount of potions per day so long as you provide in-game care to the creation of said grog. I'm not nearly so familiar with other magic items, though, but there's room to learn methinks.

EDIT: Not the DM but I figured I'd help up and looked over everyone's character sheet, everything looks in tip-top shape Troy (though you'll need to change your current HP to match your Max, unless you just really don't want that extra point of health). Sinner, I don't think you've allowed public access to your sheet so I don't think anyone can yet view it; unless you gave Alashar permission, to which can only let him clear that up.

I'm going to look over the rules for Potion creation here in a second to make sure I'm not too far off.

Rules on Brewing Potions:

"The creator of a potion needs a level working surface and at least a few containers in which to mix liquids, as well as a source of heat to boil the brew. In addition, he needs ingredients. The costs for materials and ingredients are subsumed in the cost for brewing the potion: 25 gp the level of the spell the level of the caster.

All ingredients and materials used to brew a potion must be fresh and unused. The character must pay the full cost for brewing each potion. (Economies of scale do not apply.)

The imbiber of the potion is both the caster and the target. Spells with a range of personal cannot be made into potions.

The creator must have prepared the spell to be placed in the potion (or must know the spell, in the case of a sorcerer or bard) and must provide any material component or focus the spell requires.

Material components are consumed when he begins working, but a focus is not. (A focus used in brewing a potion can be reused.) The act of brewing triggers the prepared spell, making it unavailable for casting until the character has rested and regained spells. (That is, that spell slot is expended from the caster's currently prepared spells, just as if it had been cast.) Brewing a potion requires 1 day.

Item Creation Feat Required: Brew Potion.

Skill Used in Creation: Spellcraft or Craft (alchemy)"

You also need the feat Brew Potion (which you cannot take without a Caster Level 3 without a class giving it to you early, such as Witch or Wizard) and can only Brew Potions of levels 0-3.

Thanks. Still, it's wording like "the character must pay the full cost for brewing each potion" after just giving you a formula that says otherwise can confuse some people because it sounds like if you had to pay the full cost of the potion. Also, I think I've read somewhere on the http://www.d20pfsrd.com/ that potions below certain cost (50 I think) take only 2 hours.

Could you also explain the normal crafting system to me ? I get mixed up on stuff like dc x success x something gets you something that doesn't make sense to me.

Anyway, guess I could make a few healing potions before the adventure.

Therese's Character Sheet, I still have to add her two bonus languages, so I'll get around to that when I'm able to look into them. Garet and Therese are pooling some resources due to their shared backgrounds, and because her weak noodly arms can't carry much aside from her immediate gear [due to needing armour] Garet will be lugging around a few extra things for her sake.

Instead of reposting that horrendous mess, here's the link and a simple equation I think equals out.

Convert the price of the item to silver (so the price of the item x10 if it's in gp). Pay 1/3 of the base price for raw materials. Take the result and multiply it by the DC of the item you're crafting (see the chart in the link). Look at the price of the material being made in silver, and if your DC x Check Result are more, then you're good. If it's less, that's how much progress you've made that week and you'll need more time to finish Crafting it. If the results are -4 or lower than the required DC, then you made no progress for the week.

Check me on that, I could have left something out but I don't think so.

Get Artisan's Tools, or in your case a good argument could be made for an Chemist's Set instead; either way, getting it keeps you from getting a -2 penalty on the Craft check; getting the Masterwork Artisan's Kit gives you a +2 competence bonus.

Thanks, I think I understood it a bit better with that point by point explanation. But now that I've noticed that the Alchemy doesn't help with Potion Brewing and the only good stuff starts at DC 25 (!) I'm starting to find to be a waste of time, at least until I get a few more ranks in it.

And you always get +2 when using alchemist lab, which I'd rather put on a mule (if it is that compact anyway).

EDIT: Oh, and I made my character public Sass. While on the topic, you forgot to put yours on public Darkling.

I think it is compact enough, so good call on that. Unless Alashar says otherwise, though, I think you'll need an artisan's kit, which, if Masterwork, may stack.

Only things I see missing on your sheet Sinner is you downing yourself the extra skill point from being a Human (for some reason I thought Marik was a Half-Elf in your original app). There's also the matter of your preferred class, which will give you either a free HP or free skill point. Alternately, and you'd have to take this up with Alashar, being Human allows you to pick the preferred class bonus of having an extra Formulae each level.

Alchemy requires the lab, not artistant kit. But I guess I'll need something to craft other stuff.

I'm holding the last skill point until I know if we can get the mule - if we do, I'll take handle animals. If not, I'll take riding.

EDIT: that or just drop craft weapons and take both.

EDIT2: For clarification I picked the skill point as my preferred class bonus. And I can't pick the alternative feature right now because it only allows picking formulas from levels below the highest one you can use.

Oh, and yesterday I got hit by this crazy idea that's following me and I want to ask you to tell me the first thing that comes to your mind about a combination like this:

The Disgraced: Lawful Good, high str, dex and cha two weapon fighting Paladin 4, Sorcerer 1, Dragon Disciple X. Rapier + dagger, parade armor, arcane armor training.

Alternatively replace Paladin with Fighter for a Lawful Neutral/Evil Dragon Blooded Knight with more feats to support two weapon fighting but wasting his Cha.

My first thought is the Dragoon class from the older Final Fantasy games, sans the weapons; my second thought is that would be an interesting mix to play, especially if done so flamboyantly and as Sir Pellinore-like as possible. The Paladin mix would be probably stronger overall with the Divine Grace aspect of it turning him into a walking spell-casting juggernaut, though one can never turn down the endless stream of feats from being a fighter.
