Introductions!... And stuff!
Okay, well, since I can't do PMs yet, I might as well post whatever I had to say here.
Hi, I'm a new player! Huzzah, I've introduced myself! Right, moving on. I had an introductory post about myself written out in the PM, which I might as well post here instead. Quote:
Armored kilts. They are stackable with normal armor, but increase light armor into medium when worn with them. Now, my character, a soulknife, is using studded leather at the moment (anything else is way too heavy for my measly 12 strength). The question is twofold: 1) Is it possible to enchant both the armored kilt and the studded leather, and have their enhancement bonuses stack? I'd say no, but I'm looking for clarity anyway. 2) Does wearing both the kilt and studded leather decrease my speed to 20'? It's effectively medium armor, but neither armor has any movement speed reducing elements. I would argue that it doesn't, since neither piece reduces speed in the statistics table, and the description for speed refers to said table. However, it could be argued that wearing medium armor always reduces speed to 20'. So I ask for clarity on the matter. With that out of the way, what do you think of the 10 Minute Background? As I stated earlier, I think the majority of a backstory is entirely meaningless with very little to offer a game or a character. I like growing histories organically throughout the game, with only the actually meaningful parts of the character being written out beforehand. I think the 10 minute background works rather well for that purpose, and as both a GM and a player I prefer it to traditional 'story type' backstories. I'd very much prefer to write a background with the 10-minute format, if it's okay. Edit: Third (fourth?) question, if I may: Humans gain extra favored class bonuses based on their class, but soulknife is not among the classes. Might some sort of homebrewed bonus apply there? It would make sense for humans, the jack-of-all-trade of races, to have bonuses in every class, rather than only the 1st party classes. Last edited by Actana; Nov 2nd, 2012 at 01:47 PM. |

Quick question about traits--should we just take 2 from the list in the world information thread, or can we also take those in the general PF website?

Okay well thanks for telling us a little about your self Actana. I am not much to rule lawyering or strictly following it. I am also displeased with the way the d20 limits things, but as you said people play it and if you want to do this kind of game, either join or complain somewhere else.
For your questions 1. By the way it is set up, yes they do stack. The way I came to this is and "with shield and magic shield enhancement bonuses" which is a straight quote from the magic armor page on the Pathfinder SRD. However I will limit it with you may only have one armor bonus active at a time. By armor bonus I mean glamered, fortification, resist whatever and so on. And it will take a standard action to switch between them if they both have it. 2. They do stack because if you look at the rules it says that adding it makes the suit become a medium piece of armor. So it would become a medium piece of armor and move at the reduced speed. Also the penalties would stack, or if it did if the armored kilt had any beside weight. 3. That is perfect and what I want. I want you to have a clear idea of who your character is and what drives them. This way I can dangle the proverbial carrot in front of their nose and drive the adventure forward. Link me the soul knife information, and I will look at it tonight. |

For traits any of the basic ones, racial ones, and regional ones. Or the ones I made.

Sorry for the slight absence. Had a spontaneous gaming session develop today when all the players were present and wanted to play. That, and going to watch Skyfall took up most of my day. I'll have my character ready for play on Sunday at the latest.

Okay it looks like everyone has made it. I will be making a game post tonight and going over backgrounds as I find time to do it. I will also make some secret text for each person as well to clarify, expand upon, and modify things I see in their background. Please link your character sheet somewhere in the thread and make it open permission so we can view it. If you ate unsure how to do that just ask.

Game thread up, and please remember your characters do not know each other. First Meeting and all, so give us a little flavor text as to how you dress, carry yourself, and any important features.

Okay I have read through each background. I love each, and everyone. They all work within the world with a minor exception that I will discuss with the player. I have some plot hooks, ideas, and story ideas after this original bonding adventure because of them. Ofcourse the ever popular dungeon crawl and time to save the town adventure will happen.
A not about my DM style. I like story, the rule of cool, and you guys actually being heros. So if you want to do something give it a shot. As long as it is feasible to even attempt we can throw a DC on it, and have you roll. Also I will burrow creatures/monsters/ideas from video games, movies, whatever. I will give them what I feel is a twist on them so it is not copy and paste, but you may recognize something to give you a heads up. |

Hi,
apparently i'm the new guy joining this adventure. I'm in role-playing more for the flavour than the power gaming, but both have a right to exist quite obviously - another thing you should probably know about me is that i've only recently started playing Pathfinder, so I wouldn't really know how to make a truly efficient character anyway - which is why I play what I do, a grappling monk archetype. I'm sure i'll find my way around though, since the PRD exists and i've gotten around using that, as well. In real life, I am currently studying law. |

Welcome to the group :-)
Let us know if we can do anything to help, including suggestions and the like for viable options, as you said you were new to Pathfinder :-) DM: Are we familiar with oreads? Are they common in this area? Or should we be astounded and surprised when we see one for the first time? Last edited by Ghostwheel; Nov 7th, 2012 at 07:48 PM. |

Thank you for the kind offer, I also finished up my background now - let me know if it's alright the way it is or if I should change anything to fit the story better. Since I (and therefore my character) missed the meeting with the lawyer, I figured it would be better to have him come to the city late and maybe meet the others in the inn when they are just trying to find out where this Jimmy character is. Of course it could also be retconned in a way that he was with the party all along, just standing in the shadows and being silent.

I'm still not sure how to work my character in, which is why I asked what the best way to go would be.
