Tyler laughed when Jimmy came running out of the freezer. Must've scared him. "Yeah I'll be right there," he yelled back.

Just then some...creature burst past him. What the heck?! Tyler was about to give chase himself, when the rhino that was Jac came barreling past, shoving him aside to join the rest of the debris in her wake. Unphased, he jumped up and began following her.

Jimmy

"Damnit Jac! Jimmy bounces off the freezer wall from Jac's shove and exits the freezer close behind her. Crazy broad! Why in Hades is she chasing after a freaking bat??

Jimmy obviously didn't get a good look at the creature as it blew past him... "Jac! Whait, you'll get rabies or some crap from that thing!!!"

Jimmy tries to stay in the wake of Jac and Tyler's passage with limited success, some of the garbage comes sliding down the piles to slow him down, but not as much as Jac had to deal with. Which is a good thing thanks to his limited height.

The cat thing. The critter thing. It bounces over crates and glides and skitters and dodges and leaps over all sorts of strange things. More than twice the past half-hour's worth of atrocities and curiosities fly by as Jac, and then Tyler, and then Jimmy, careen across the basement. Only the motion and commotion of the cat thing can be seen, not the thing itself.

Joe stands by the back wall, well illuminated by a hanging bulb, looking over his shoulder towards the sounds of things charging through the basement. He appears confused, but also very distracted. Distracted by more than just the people running at him. As the cat thing approaches the area of illumination, it leaps into the air, stretches its wings, and drives it's miniature antlers into Joe's gut.

It then jumps off of him, scampers along the wall, and disappears behind a large unit of shelving.

Joe slumps against the wall, holding his stomach.

The walk-in fridge couldn't exactly be termed wide. While he'd barely managed to swing out of the way of the sleek, furry resident of the Pittston basement ecosystem, Jac was a different story altogether. Despite weighing in the ballpark of half a Robert, she had a wiry strength to her and he became an inevitable victim of her excitement, crashing into one of the gaudy crates as she inadvertently pushed him aside in her enthusiasm for the chase.

A moment of tumbling and crashing later, he was covered in tasty, shiny filth.

Dusting himself off, he allowed himself a muttered complaint about people acting their age before retrieving the flashlight from where it fallen. Blinking through the cloud of dust, flour and sugar that filled the air he exited the storage unit.

Somehow, at that instant, whether due to some trick of the light, or the laws of thespian drama, he saw - with a vivid, terrible, and darkly humorous clarity - Joe get gut-punched by something maybe as large as a football and fall.

"Joe!"

Jimmy

"Damnit! Joe! Hold on man!" Jimmy rushes past Jac and Tyler while pulling off his shirt, leaving his hirsute torso covered only my a tattered wifebeater. He pushes the shirt against Joe's gut wound and barks directions to the others.

"Tyler! Take your drumstick and watch those shelves for that thing, and be ready to hit it out of the park! Jac! Call 9-1-1! You might have to head toward the front to get reception in this hellhole!" Jimmy puts preasure on the wounds and tries to get Joe to talk to him.

"Come on Joe, stay with me.. Talk to me man!"

Jac skids to a halt as she sees the thing attack Joe. Ok, whatever the hell that thing is, it is NOT normal. God damn it what do you even do when somebody gets stabbed like that? Why didn't they teach me anything in school?

At jimmy's words, she draws her crappy old phone and starts striding quickly to the stairs, waiting to see those signal bars. Come on Joe, be ok. It was only little, right? Right? I am going to kill that f****** animal. Wonder who here owns a gun?

Woah! Victor drops his tray as he hears the chaos and sees the stabbing.

what the hell is going on!

I was upstairs making coffee and getting donuts for everyone and this...

Smashed coffee cups are everywhere. Some of the donuts are probably salvageable.

If you ask Robert, a whole lot more of those donuts than you ever expected will be salvageable.

Up close, Joe's wounds are not as grievous as it seemed from a distance. He has a deep gash along his gut, and another two on his arms. They're messy cuts from the last second, when he tried to dodge. He looks at Jimmy.

"... The puck just hit me? Did you see it? Part dog, part rabbit, part bird...!? Tell Jac not to call 911, and call my ex instead, she's an EMT. I'll be O.K. Hurt's like hell, though." He grumbles a thanks to Jimmy for being so concerned, and then eases himself towards a filthy chair. Plubpluprplrplpshh, he exhales, as he lowers himself into the chair.

The earlier distraction comes back to him and creeps in through the corners of his eyes. That weird, not quite Joe-ness. He doesn't look at anybody, and he speaks to the air. "...And see if you can get that animal. If they find out that we've got anything besides rats down here, we're gonna have to... havto... hafta.." He emphasizes the imperative with a vague bloodied arm-wave.

Jimmy

"Are you sure Joe? Geeze, that looked really bad from back there. Keep the shirt covering your wounds anyway." Jimmy turned call to Jac "Jac! Call Joe's ex instead, he says he's OK!" Jimmy looks around the dim basement as he helps Joe to his filthy perch. "AHA!!! Just what we need!" Jimmy hurries back to a row of shelves and grabs two chaffing dish lids.

"Come on everyone, grab a couple and let's get this thing!" Jimmy moves to guard the shelf the thing disappeared behind and waits for the others.

Gotta catch it before Jac. Tyler was only a few steps behind Jac, and about to pass her in the chase, when outta seemingly nowhere Joe appeared and got speared by the thing. Joe! Tyler stopped in his tracks, quite surprised.

Jimmy didn't seem or at least not as much as everyone elsephased though. His orders shocked Tyler outta his shock, and Tyler took up a defensive position between Joe and the shelf that the thing lept behind. That thing better not try going after Joe again. It'll have to go through me first!

Victor, having arrived late, is not wholly sure what or how to fight this thing scuttling about. Nevertheless, he grabs a mop and clutches it in both hands like a quarter staff, ready to strike or poke the thing into a corner.

Robert wasn't precisely sure what they were going to have to do, but from Joe's spontaneous, if somewhat incoherent sign language, he was guessing it involved hiding the bodies somewhere. If long experience with the man hadn't informed him of a paranoid streak a mile wide when it came to health and safety inspectors, he would have guessed the man was going into shock. But while he approved, on general principle, of anything that got Joe and Matt back on speaking terms rather than yelling ones, medical care - for all its exorbitant costs - was one of those unfortunate things, much like brakes, that you tended to not be able to regret if you discovered later that you actually needed it.

Hastily retrieving a donut from the floor (five second rule!), he nibbled on it reflexively before declaring it adequate by stuffing it into his mouth and chewing rapidly.

"You sure, man?" he asked Joe through a mouthful of crumbs, rummaging through the shelves until he'd found a plastic crate. Emptying it of its contents, he flipped it around and strode forwards, ready to complement Jimmy's lids and Victor's broom.

"Got it!" Jac has been told to "call my ex" more than once before. She had never anticipated that the instruction might come as a relief. "Don't worry about people finding out. It's upstairs now, so it came in a window. Everything down there'll be gone soon." She picks Matty off the list and strides on up into the diner, keeping an eye out for the strange creature.

What are we trying to hit, anyway? A mouse? A bit aggressive, biting Joe, isn't it?

And I've been preparing food stored here. Is this a health and safety thing? I don't know how it works in America. Do the cops come at you with their guns again because of violations?
