Additionally, it will be rather difficult to take both groups into new adventures as the wait time for the more expedient party could lose interest while waiting. You might have to start the next segment even before the other group finished to prevent drop-outs. Speaking of which, you're going to have fewer backups should someone have to leave; just something to think about.
Good points. Each party has five people and if they drop down to four I won't replace the missing member. If it drops further than that then I'll seek some replacements. Indeed, the parties most likely won't finish at the same time. I wouldn't keep anybody waiting though. If everyone agreed I'd start the next module right away. When it gets to that point maybe I'll apply for a second game thread and do a proper division. You guys just made me greedy for awesome players! >.<

If this weren't such a short adventure, you could possibly get away with having the two groups "compete" within the same world. One party could be local, another from out of town and together they handle various jobs about the place. Group A hears about one lead and heads off into the forest to track it down. Group B hears about something else from their travels on the road leading them into the mountains. As the story progresses players could splinter off into subgroups where treehuggers might find one task of a greater priority (save the whales!) than the Lawful Do-Gooders looking to protect the town from bandits. This could possibly be easier given that you'd be running each encounter once rather than a potential two times if both groups stumble upon it. It also makes the campaign somewhat "AFK-proof" as if a player falls away those currently accompanying the group always have the option of escaping back to town where the rest of the players will eventually end up. You can always scale CRs back as needed.
I did think of doing that, especially since some of you had backgrounds tied into Brandon's Bridge. But I'm in a game that has like eight people posting and it can get a little hard to follow sometimes. It wouldn't always happen, but still. Running an encounter twice is no problem. It's good practice for a noob like me

As long as you create a few additional BBEGs so that people aren't racing to the same end point, you could use this rather linear module as a solid foundation for dynamic play with a lil' creativity. (Note: I've actually played this adventure before and know it's a lil' difficult for two groups to live within as is. I'll be relying heavily on RP to determine my actions; helps prevent my player knowledge from sneaking it.) Otherwise, I'm open to trying this so long as you can guarantee that managing two groups won't hinder your activity level (as mentioned earlier). You've basically doubled your DM-load which might be a struggle given this is your first time.
I consider it like 1.75 times the workload. Don't worry guys. I've got plenty of free time. I wont let you down, I promise! ^.^

Quote:
As a suggestion, consider making a pair of separate OOCs for the groups, as well, given that we'd have trouble planning in-game events in here if we don't want to spoil things for the other group. This could be like a public tavern where everyone mingles as we run along while the secondary OOC provides a suitable area for information private to each group.
That's a great idea.

Quote:
All that said, if you could inform us of who is in which group, I'd appreciate it! I can't finalize my character until I know who I'll be traveling with. :S
Sure thing. The current plan is:

1st group
zevonian Cto Lok Half-orc Ranger
Coelubris Ishani Human Sorcerer
austarrowsplitter Therkas Glanli Dwarf Fighter (Foehammer)
Rogue77 Trey Bourden Human Magus
JasonWFD Jorven Half-orc Cleric

2nd group
Mcderth Melody Flynn Human Rogue
sertaki Raylan Astarni Human Paladin
Vahnscraze Ulrick Ostgood Halfling Oracle (Nature)
GrassMonkey Vitos Brokensoul Half-orc Monk
IDentityCrisis Gareth Halfling Storm Druid

And thank you for the thought out post. I really appreciate any comments or suggestions you guys might have.

Hey guys! Sorry I didn't get on here sooner, but holiday weekend and all. I'm gonna try to pound out the character sheet tonight but it might end up being finished tomorrow if I'm not able to squeeze it in between the rest of my plans for the night and my online coursework.

So excited to be here! Thanks so much for including me in this game sethdot. Looks like this is gonna be a lot of fun!

fun fact: Identity Crisis and me both started another game here as well this weekend

I like the idea of two teams, if you are up to the task. Will be interesting to compare results

BTW: You ok about my sword being a reskinned katana, sethdot?

Yeah that's fine. I don't mind a little reskinning as long as it follows the spirit of the original. Extra flavor is always good in my book.

Actually, though, I kinda am. Dump statting Charisma on a Dwarf isn't exactly going to win me any hearts. Heh, maybe any small children we encounter should roll a Will Save vs. Fear when they meet me. I figure that Therkas has taken a few beatings, and so he doesn't look quite right. Plus, given that his family's disgraced, there's not gonna be too many options for mates, so there may even be a little inbreeding going on. Plus, again, being disgraced, he was likely given substandard safety equipment at the forge, and thus he'd likely have a few burn scars. Thank Torag he didn't have a big, luscious beard that could've caught fire!

Oh, and sheet's done.

I believe that does it for my character. If I'm not mistaken, with the animal companion, we simply take the animal normally and throw on Link, Shared Spells and 1 trick, right?

Also, you'll see a +6 for AC and CMD misc, that's the swapping out of DEX for CHA.

@Vahnscraze

Looks like you're one point over 20. Dropping your str down to 8 would fix that.
Looks like you can pick one more language.
Damage from weapons should be -1 from str

Other than that looks good.

@GrassMonkey

All set

Okay folks, we're almost there. Just waiting on a few more sheets and we'll get started.

Also:

@sertaki

Your base saves should be +2, not +1

Are you sure? Original scores would be: 14, 10, 13, 12 10, 16.
-3 to STR, DEX, CON, +2 INT, WIS, CHA for old age

11, 7, 10, 14, 12, 18

-2 STR, +2 DEX, CHA for being halfling

9, 9, 10, 14, 12, 20.

Unless I'm looking at an incorrect point buy chart (which is on the srd), that should be 20 points exactly.

As for languages, I should only have 6. (Common and halfling, for being halfling, celestial for tongues, draconic and elven for +2 INT mod and giant for 1 rank in linguistics) Unless I'm overlooking something.

Will update the weapon damage.

Ah, I totally forgot he was an old fogie! You're good then.

The Polyglot racial trait gives you a bonus language.

yup. Figured I'd move away from 'normie adulthood' to 'little, old man' for once.

Ah, gotcha. Will update with a new language. Then all shall be good. ^_^
