MundayKnight - Frask the Binder

The light is so bright, shining just above your face. Cold steel touches skin at your back while the air currents tickle your flesh. Wherever you are, it is not the home you remember, you are naked, and most concerning, you cannot make the slightest move as you lie there.

Suddenly a clunk, the sound of gears and a dizzying shift in position leave you almost upright. You slide down with no way to halt yourself until the balls of your feet hit the floor. You see a stepladder pushed into position above you before an excited looking tiny gnome climbs it and begins to poke and prod and lift. Going into truly uncomfortable detail as he examines your teeth, then your toes.

When no stone is left unturned he stands on the top step of the ladder to look you in the eye. "You are perfectly healthy." he declares, seeming immensely pleased with the fact. He pokes you in the forehead then clicks his fingers and suddenly you can move your limbs. "There now, let me show you around..."

"But a moment of your time good gnome, where am I and do you have anything to lessen headaches on you?"

"You're here, and no, I don't have any remedies that would work on dromite physiology on me." the gnome begins to climb down his stepladder. "We're in a demi-plane, so I doubt you've heard of it."

"I may be able to surprise you I am no great scholar but I am fairly knowledgeable." As he says this Frask begins moving, adjusting to his current body. "Why am I shorter?"

The gnome shrugs "I'm afraid I couldn't say. You looked like this when you got here."

"Where are we going? Why was I brought here? Can I have some water?" As the words rush from Frask's mouth he finds himself filled with ever more questions. The biggest one came out last though, "Why does it feel like I am sharing space in my head with two other creatures?"

The gnome carries the too tall stepladder back to it's cupboard. "Not my job to tell you the first two. You'll have some water soon enough, and those are probably your thralls. They're in your armoury now."

Thralls? like a mindbent puppet person? Making someone a Thrall has been illegal for years. Why would I have one?"

The gnome shrugs. "You wanted them, presumably. That's not the sort of thing that happens by accident."

Knowledge: PsionicsYou seem to recall a fairly comprehensive treatise on the matter of thralls

Thralls are an interesting issue, both academically and morally.

The issue of Mind Control, in both it's psionic and magical forms is a complex one related, but ultimately separate from that of the thrall. Mind control abilities of any known origin are in some capacity resistible by those of great personal willpower and allow for continued resistance after initial failure. Because the subject of thralldom is next to impossible to identify before they are made a thrall testing this resistance is difficult and reports are suspect. No thrall has been recorded refusing their master's instruction, but numerous thralls have been shown to successfully resist more traditional Mind Control abilities strongly suggesting that thralldom functions differently on a fundamental level.

The true difficulty in investigating the nature of thralldom arises in the uncertainty regarding changes made to the psyche by the process. Every verifiable report of a Thrall ordered to respond truthfully claim little to no identified change, but obviously whether this is an artifact of such a change is still unknown. Thralls under this command of truthfulness will admit to a yearning to be controlled, though thralls may otherwise demonstrate assertive or even domineering behaviour that has caused doubt to be raised as to whether this is a psionically implanted sensation, the lack of ability to resist thralldom has created the suggestion that this process locates, rather than creates these people.

If the former is the case then this process is ethically almost identical to the debate surrounding mind control. But if in fact it is the latter the debate takes a very different morality, surrounding the right, as an entity with free will to surrender that free will. With the question often asked "Is denying somebodies right to make this decision any different from letting them choose, from a perspective of denying free will"

The gnome seems to address open air. "Geoff. To the armoury please."

The scene shifts. Your new location contains a wide variety of strangely familiar items arrayed on tables and a rune inscribed, dromite shaped set of finely crafted plate, most definitely looking to be too heavy to possibly be yours.

Perhaps the strangest of your equipment is seated at either end of the table.

These elemental kin look up as you appear.

"So you're the one we're waiting for" comes the gruff voice of the ifrit."They say we're your equipment... What gives you the right to tame me?"

OOCI've tried to give everyone something creative but useful companion characters. These two are ideas I had recently that turned out to be pretty synergistic. An Ifrit Pyrokinetic and an Undine Watersinger.

If you don't want these guys feel free to say so and we can work out some other thralls.

A moment of calm assurance comes over Frask "Calm yourself sir, I know not why I tamed you nor how I would have managed such a feat but you are making this room unbearably hot and I am sure the fine lady over there enjoys it less." Frask then ignores the Ifrit for a moment as he grabs the simple headband from the table and puts it on, it felt right and he could also feel his mind expanding. After the fitting of the band he grabbed a belt from the table and placed it around his hips, the moment the cinch was bound he could feel the cold that had been coming up evaporate. He then touched a blob upon the table and felt it slide over his body and fit snugly upon his skin. The last thing he grabbed was the staff leaning against the table and for some reason was not surprised at all when the stones near it began floating in circles around its head. "Mi'lady may I ask if you could assist me in putting on these boots, I would ask our friend here but he may scorch the leather." As he says this he leans against the table and feels a ring brush against his hand. As he puts it on he feels himself no longer being thirsty and the small amount of hunger that had built up dissipated quickly and he found himself to be very alert. "Lastly I must ask what the last memory both of you have as I am somewhat lacking in that department at the moment."

oocI know it requires a period of time for the ring of sustenance to adjust to my existence but I put my description for it as if when its first put on it gives a bit of a benefit, I won't take the actual effects till appropriate though. I actually really like them, though can I get a character sheet of them so I know what they can do feat wise/what the pyro started as. Can I ask that it be Aegis or soulknife so that he will have full bab and some defense since pyro is up close and personal?

The Undine flows over to you, helping you with your boots.

"I stood at my father's side. Disciplining an unruly slave." The Ifrit allows the flame he had built up to dissipate, seemingly surprised by his own action.

"I sang the aria of the deep for the nymphs of Lyrec" the Undine answers, then "That seems to be of a time long past however, if certain evidences hold true."

OOCI have yet to give him his feats. But rest assured. His AC is such that there is a slightly greater than 50% chance that a randomly selected creature of his CR will miss him on the first attack.

He's not exactly a frontliner. He's built around the fire lash, augmented with Weapons aflame. His major winning factor is the fact that the lash hits against touch AC, and at a distance that means he doesn't need to wade through large creatures threatened area.

He might not do as much damage per hit as your average martial fighter, but he autohits on anything but a nat 1 on most creatures of almost any CR on his third iterative attack. Meaning that he will hit three times in a full attack with high reliably.

I still haven't picked his feats, but I'm thinking of whip mastery, it's improved version and combat reflexes so that he won't take AoO's when using it, and so he can dish out up to seven, again nearly automatically successful attacks per round. Weapon Finesse of course is a must. Basically he can tank because he's dangerous to move away from (The problem most tanks have is that they become immortal but forget that they have to stop their opponents hitting their friends too.)

He is in fact built on the Soulknife, so that he can use the Fire lash with blade augmentation abilties

Here he is.

I haven't built the watersinger yet, but I intend for her to be heavily involved in control. She will carry large amounts of water in extradimensional space for her waterbending abilities too. I intend to build her with a focus on improving her bardic performance, particularly giving her even more rounds per day, because she won't be using it just for combat. She can make walls, bridges etc with her water for some utility purpose.

"I will abide no slave-holding in my presence, now I must ask for names from you both as I know not what to call you. I would love to hear you sing mi'lady, for hearing you speak is already a gift of the divine." Frask smiles and motions toward the plate armor, the tower shield and the few other odds and ends. "Now my fiery compatriot could you kindly grab the last of my gear and well sir gnome I know not your name and find that it was very rude of me not to ask but could you tell me what I am to do now? I feel this is not our last stop."
