Sounds awesome! When you mentioned having 3-4 parties of characters, my thoughts immediately went to that part of Final Fantasy VIII where you've got the one party trying to stop the missiles from launching, and the other party doing I can't remember what (it's been too long...I am ashamed...)

What are you studying in grad school?

I'm in law school actually. So assuming that our game continues unhindered for the next two and a half years I'll need to slow down/take a break in the summer of 2016 for this little pop quiz called the bar

Posted finally! Sorry for the delay. Monday is just a tough day for me, and every other Monday is actually my Pathfinder tabletop gaming night. Although I can still post here during the game :P

Entangling shot is quite expensive, even with the 1/2 price gunsmithing benefit. I could make a few changes to my character sheet, like getting rid of my melee weapon or armor to be able to afford a couple shots, but I feel that will be less beneficial to me overall. Unless it's super important to have entangling shot, and don't give away any secrets of the campaign by any means, then I could make a few changes.

If you were just pointing out the entangling shot for reference, then I thank you, but will end up passing on it for now.

No skill points to put into crafting, Iyani will most likely rely on her spells. Things like cause fear or obscuring mist and command.

I do have skill in crafting and I believe I should be able to make the ammunition for you with no issue, just that you would have to provide the gold value of course.

Just pointing it out for your reference. You can make firearms and ammunition with no required crafting rolls as part of your gunsmithing feat granted by the gunsmith class ability. You only need 1 rank in Craft: Alchemy to make the cartridges automatically. The relevant tables for cost are here, scroll down and you can find them. The cost for a single bullet is 1GP and for a single dose of gunpowder is 10GP, making total cost per shot with your gunsmithing discount 1.1GP (or 1GP 1SP if you prefer to think about it that way). Salt is 6GP with your discount and entangling is 20GP with your discount. You don't have to worry about the salt though, the academy is providing those and will make sure you have a supply of 20 upon leaving for the Final Exam. Also, I don't want you think I'm railroading you into being a blunderbuss guy, I think musket is far cooler as well but the salt shot seemed appropriate for what's going on at the moment so I decided to allow you guys access to it for the time period without forcing you into any character creation choices.

Right, it's the 20gp for entangling shot that I don't have available to me at the moment. I did take advantage of my skills and discounts when creating my cartridges (paper) though.

But when I get some more money (eventually I'm sure ) I do plan to be making a few entangling shots, other than their effectiveness goes away very quickly in Pathfinder vs D&D3.5. Still, they will be handy for the most part up to about level 5 from what I've experienced from the druid spell.

Agh Alain has a crossbow, he will be fine without the full-round reload of a musket to do cone nonlethal damage...Besides later levels I'll have better illusions.
Also, they are inelegant and lack a sense of aesthetics.

Well Iyani has a natural distaste for firearms they don't work well under water... Of course were not under water now, it's just how she was raised is all...

Haha I figured most of you wouldn't want it I thought I'd just put it up as an option. Remember just because you carry the blunderbuss doesn't necessarily mean that it's your primary weapon. But if you're experiencing weight issues or just don't think your character would agree to use it then that works too. I would be strategizing about effective ways you guys could incapacitate low level opponents with non lethal damage because it might come up a few times at first. Though like I said before, this is not meant to be a riot simulation game, it's just a springboard to greater things.

I do enjoy the use of nonlethal ranged weapon use but due to character conflict, weight issues...and the fact that I'd have to take a few feats beyond the proficiency you gave us for it to be practical to use.

If you need some money, I have about 20 left over.. or could make it 70 if I don't buy an anti-toxin vial. We can just say we met earlier and you showed me a little about guns and I paid for the ammunition.

Oh, how much are ear plugs? I don't see them as gear, but figured with the sound of the guns, Iyani would use something to help muffle the noise.

She'll use the gun for now (it's better equipped to handle crowds than her Glaive) on the keep the peace mission. She figures there not going to need full gear and can leave some of the pack at their post while lightly patrolling etc.
