Shaking his head, "Hunting for passages would be like seeking a blunt, invisible needle in a haystack. Instead," looking below for an out of the way spot, "perhaps, we can make one of our own. Can you shift into a burrowing animal, strong enough to dig through these stone walls? We can slip in with them unawares and dispatch any guards as we come on them." Thinking some more, "Night or day will matter little within the underground fortress. But, if you know whether ogres are nocturnal or diurnal, we can move in when most of them should be asleep."

The ogres may be taking orders from a skilled strategist, but they themselves do not share their master's keen intellect or attention span. It's quite clear that the ogres on the wall are bored with their duty, barely paying attention, and though every section of the wall is spotted eventually, you do eventually spot an area which is walked less frequently, but even then you'd have a minute at most between the first patrol losing sight of the area and the next patrol arriving. Even waiting till dusk seems futile, as just as the sun begins to set, another set of ogres emerge from below, and the first gladly relieves their archery tools to the new set before descending into the tower. Who ever is in charge has clearly left little room for error in his defenses.
As far as burrowing goes, you know that the entire fortress is forged of the same worked stone, but the outer walls, exposed to the harsh elements, have weakened considerably. While burrowing to get inside will be not terribly difficult, you doubt it will work inside.

It looks like they are relaxed a bit. We should be able to burrow through the outer wall to get inside. However, once inside, I doubt we will be able to burrow. At least we can gain entrance. Let's try and not raise any alarms. Aira paused a moment to give the Lord time to reply before swooping into action.
If everything is a go from the lord, Aira times her approach as they descend to the less frequent area where they land and she transform into a dire badger than begins to quickly burrow their way inside Dice stealth:

Louis nods his agreement. Dismounting, the knight keeps vigil at the base of the wall while Aira digs them a passage within, looking up to make sure that the ogre guards have not come back early.
Once the hole is big enough to duck within, Louis stays close to the giant lady-badger, his sword drawn & at the ready. "Once inside, you'd best shift to another avian shape, methinks," he barely whispers over the muted sound of scraping rock.

Aira ponders, Another Avian form, one you can ride? or my natural form? I can only shift two more times before requiring a night for my magic to recharge. as she continued to burrow.

"One for riding, I meant, m'lady," Louis responds. "Dwarves build grandly, so aerial maneuvering will be invaluable for both us. All the better against brutish numbers lying within."

Outside here, yes. Not sure we will be able to fly indoors. I doubt the area would be wide enough for my wingspan. Shall I become a large sabertooth tiger for you to ride after?

He shrugs. "We'll just have to see how spacious it looks inside." As they burrow several more feet within, the angelkin lord summons the glow of his halo to illumine their passageway.

As she continues digging. Might want to put out that light, we don't need the Ogres seeing a glow coming from this area. I might alert them.

Louis looks at her oddly before dousing his halo. "They won't pass overhead for another half-minute, and 'tis scarcely visible, if at all, this far into your tunnel. Regardless, once inside this fortress, I'll need it again unless the halls are lit. I can't see in the dark as you can."

Aira nods as she finished tunneling a hole thru the outer wall. Here we are. as she waits to ensure they make it before she shifts forms.

Your digging puts you just inside the outer walls, on the second floor. the hallway is twenty feet wide and covered in worked stone. The outer wall has several small slits where an archer could fire from. The path south dead ends shortly, but the hall north turns towards the east further down, and there is a large iron door directly to your east. The halls themselves are completely quite save the sound of the roaring winds outside.

Aira
Dice perception:
So what form would you prefer before we continue? My natural form and you summon your stallion? Aira tilted her head in a questionable way. Congrats on the newborn!OOC Last edited by kaylara; Jun 12th, 2014 at 08:06 PM. |

Louis moves into the empty hallway, alighting his halo again. Looking about, he answers: "It will be a tad easier to avoid attention riding you as a fierce cat, than a dragon and stallion stomping around. If we require a more formidable offensive, I can always summon my steed later. Getting him out will be tricky if we mean an escape from the ogres' pursuit."
