Gorrug the Shamed

Character Application Name: Gorrug the Shamed Age: 26 Race: Orc Class: Monk Personality: Gorrug is a rare Orc. His training in the monastery has centered and calmed the naturally destructive Orc. He tries not to break things, as breaking things tends to bring out an inner rage that drives people away from him. Gorrug actually LIKES people, and struggles mightily to maintain his composure and remain living among civilized people. He is an imposing sight, and suffers greatly from prejudice against his kind. Gorrug takes it all in stride, reminding himself of the wrongs committed by his people over the eons. He strives each and every day to break the stereotype of the base, stupid, rage-consumed, destructive Orc. He has sworn a vow of celibacy (not the Vow of Celibacy, simply fluff), and tries to live in peace without the comforts that others take for granted. He lives a hard life, practicing his wrestling every day, and meditating every morning and evening, trying to find the answer to his one and only question..."Why?" Appearance: Gorrug is a typical Orc, standing almost two meters in height, but not quite (6'2"). He wears rough homespun garments, breeches with a rope belt, and a light vest, often open in the front. He lacks the scars that are so frequent in his people, as he was not raised among Orcs through to adulthood. He shaves his head frequently, and here is where his scars are most concentrated. Razor nicks pepper his gleaming scalp, showcasing the irregularities in the shape of the skull. He is a muscle-bound specimen, as many of his people are, but takes it to an extreme. Gorrug's biceps are larger than many human men's thighs. Gorrug's tusks have been filed, and nothing protrudes from his lips. His skin is very shiny from the frequent bathings he takes to keep his typical Orc-stench in check. His eyes are likely the most unnerving quality of his. He tends to act like a somewhat brutish human, but when people look him in the eye, his nature as an Orc is most evident. The town guards have often been called for nothing more than Gorrug walking the streets at an odd hour. He is treated with respect by those who know him, including the watch, as he always looks out for the peace of the town, and is known for subduing fugitives without harming them. Backstory: Gorrug was born, as most Orcs are, in wretched squalor. He was raised to kill, destroy, and pillage, as his forefathers before him, but Gorrug believed that while killing wasn't inherently wrong, unprovoked murder was. At the age of ten, he was cast out of his tribe for bringing shame to his family. His family was restored to the good graces of the chief, but Gorrug was on his own in the wilds. Living on wild fruits and berries, the boy walked far until he came upon a remote monastery, begging for sanctuary. The monastery policy forbade it from turning away any fervent supplicant, so the abbot took in the young Orc, and the monks trained the boy in the ways of inner peace, justice, and harmony. The Orc's base instincts often rose to the surface, sometimes disastrously, but each time, the brothers of the monastery would help him return to his calm center. After years of training, the young orc left the monastery on a wandering, settling in (Name of small town) for several years, acting as a farm worker, and further perfecting his interaction with the civilized races. He endeavors to show a gentler side, though he assists the town watch with detaining troublemakers. He uses his great size and strength to subdue the culprits without causing undue harm. He always carries a coil of rope over one shoulder, in case he needs to restrain something, and has become adept in its use.[ Gorrug has struggled for four years to live peaceably among civilized folk, and has had several episodes of loss of control. Gorrug tries to take his rages out on inanimate objects whenever possible. The large orc has been known to break down an old wall a couple times per week, and the town has started giving Gorrug sanctioned places to rage, generally a building that needs demolishing. Gorrug does the work for them, he sates his rage, the town benefits, and nobody gets hurt.
