Dengalon Cornandus

Name: Dengalon Cornandus
Race: Dwarf
Age: 52
Class: Magus
Personality: Stalwart, Honorable, Skeptical, Good Hearted, Friendly.
Appearance: Before you stands a staunch looking young dwarf male with a well braided red-brown beard and a shaved head. His features are rough but calm looking, making one feel as if he is seeing an old friend. His eyes are a dark brown with golden flecks around the edges of his eyerises. On his head is a tattooed mark of the dwarven elder rune "Tal" A sign of hid dedication to the ancient magic of his people.
Backstory: Dengalon Cornandus of the clan Cornandus, son of Grageore Cornandus the Arcane Smith, son of Hatherid Cornandus the Rune Master, son of Pelgidor Cornandus the Thunder Hammer, is the first born and as such was expected to uphold the traditions of his family and join the elite Rune Keepers Monastery in the high mountains and become a run caster like so many of his fathers before him. From an early age his father instructed him on the art of magic and the elegance of combat, honing him to become a dwarven magus. Rare among his people the magus in his culture is called a Rune Keeper and are some of the most well respected warriors and casters in the clans. It was an honer to be chosen to weald steel and spell as a marked member of the Rune Keepers, and he did not disappoint. His dedication to his craft and to the study of dwarven martial skill made him one of the top students in the monastery.

As was required he spent twenty years of his life with the Rune Keepers in their black marble citadel atop mount Daridore mastering the skills required to become a marked member. During his fifth year at the monastery he and three other initiates were selected to enter a very old part of the underground halls called the cracked catacombs. With the four young dwarves was a master of the Rune Keepers Borgost Handlekeg a brilliant fighter and even more cunning caster, he was to instruct and assess the dwarves on their test in the deep caves. The four of them were instructed to locate and return a lost item called Nurn’s Horn, a trinket from centuries long past it was non magical but valuable nun the less. As the four delved deeper and deeper in the pit of blackness they soon realized that they were being followed. Borgast was back at the gate of the tunnels and said that he would not be accompanying them on their journey, so whatever was following them it was not Borgast. For hours they searched in tombs of dead clan lords and raided vaults pillaged by looters, but the horn was nowhere to be found. Finally the group came to an ancient iron door marked with the seal of Nurn. If the horn was down here this would be the most likely place to find it, and if not they would have to return empty handed. They pushed the door open, a gust of dry air hissed by them as the barrier gave. The smell was stale and bitter like that of a pete bog in mid summer, and almost as warm. Thermal vents must be heating the room within. As they entered their eyes lit with wonder. The walls of the room were decorated by massive carved murals of the hero Handel Nurn blowing his mighty horn in battle against a variety of enemies. The pillers of the chamber bore highly decorative bronze axes, hammers and swords, and the floor was polished granite so smooth and seamless that one could see his reflection as clearly as in a mirror. Upon searching the room further mounted on the far wall opposite the door was the object of their questing, the Nurn’s Horn.

Having spent nearly a day searching for the horn when Dengalon pulled it down and placed it in a sack the four of them sat down to rest. The trek back would take them several hours and they were rather weary from caving all day. Just as they sat down the door to the room creaked open and then shut. Something had just entered in with them. Could it be Borgost he wondered to himself. No he would have announced himself to set them at ease. The dwarves took defensive positions back, to back, to back, to back, Dengalon held his dwarven war axe firm in his hand ready to defend himself at a moments notice, and that moment came far quicker than he thought. Our of the shadows came a hideous white skinned beast with sharp teeth and glowing red eyes, and it ripped its claws deep into the flesh of his comrade Fendt Candilagon who was to his left. The young dwarf lad’s skin became cold and his face turned to terror as he hit the floor. Reacting instinctively Dengalon marked the head of his axe with a rune of power and swung at the creatures outstretched arm separating it from its parent body at the elbow, with a single cleaving blow. The vile creature screamed in pain as the dismembered limb hit the sone floor. Dengalon moved in for a second strike as his comrades took their fallen friend moaning back the way they came, his condition worsening by the minute. The axe head buried its self deep in the thing skull and it went limp, making no further sound on its journey back to the land of the dead.

Confident but shaking from the adrenaline of the battle he was almost completely unaware of the four other like beings gathering behind him. One jumped into the air to land on him from above and probably would have made short work of him had it not been intercepted by the blast of a powerful bolt of lightning. Turning just in time to see his would be assassin crumple into a ball of char he saw the three remaining Wights standing facing away from him. Their gaze fixed on the caster of the magic that had save Dengalon’s life. It was Borgost with his mighty war hammer and clad in glistening armor covered in glowing runes humming with arcane energy. The createn closest to the elder dwarf made the first move and wad crushed by a hammer blow so fast that even Dengalon could hardly follow it. After that monster fell the other two attempted to flank the heavily armored elf but only made it about half way before they were incinerated by a wall of searing blue flame. Amazed and drained all Dengalon could to was stair at the magnificent display of magical art and martial finesse. How could one attain such mastery of both arts and wield them so masterfully?

Ever since that day in the caverns Dengalon has aspired to become every bit as powerful and masterful of the way of the Rune Keepers. When he was ready he was given his mark upon his head and sent out into the world to create a name for him self. We would then be allowed to return to the monastery as a hero and brother to the Rune Master of their order and take his place by his father’s side. Honer, glory, and fame would not be enough, he would have to be able to stand against any foe before he could stand with them. Hearing of the calamity that has befallen the lands to the south in the wilds of the Eclipse, Dengalon has offered his axe and his talents in service and protection of the village. Honor bound he will defend the people their to his last breath.
