Personality: Quiet (as you'd expect of a deaf person), patient, and kind. Young, naive (for an elf), aids anyone in need, opposed to violence. Mel is a follower, not a leader, and while he has opinions of his own, his condition makes expressing them difficult.
Appearance: Mel has shining golden blond hair that reaches just below his shoulders, hazel eyes, and a handsome, mildly angular face. Commonly clad in a simple tunic, and wielding a naturally-made staff (read: a slightly carved and stained branch), he also generally can be seen with a scrollcase at his belt, among other pouches that contain mostly herbs with various healing qualities. On the adventure, he wears a simple chain vest over the tunic.
Backstory: When Mel was born, he did so in silence. Try as they might, his parents, proud hunters both, could not get him to speak. It never occurred to them, whose occupations required the finest hearing in the land, that their son would be deaf. Soon, no pride or ignorance could hide the truth. Still, Mel's parents raised him with love, as he was the only child they could ever have.

As Mel grew, his parents were proud to see his affinity with nature. Many times throughout his childhood he was seen, sitting in silent observance, as creatures from the wilderness surrounded him. One day, a fawn limped up to young Mel, and the child looked with sadness upon the creature's twisted leg. Mel placed a hand on the Fawn's leg, and the happy creature was soon prancing around the elfling. Word of his powers spread throughout the animal kingdom, and soon, not a week past that he hadn't nursed a creature back to health with merely a touch.

His parents praised their son's ability, but soon, it attracted the attention of the High Druid. He was disgusted at Mel's power, seeing it as an unnatural ability that was against the true order of things. The High Druid banned his use of the power, but Mel merely looked at the old man in curiosity, and then smiled, oblivious to the words that the aging elf had spoken. Such action outraged the Druid, and he decreed that the child would be banished to the nearest human village, Eclipse.

There, he was raised by the community. Mel would watch an entire generation pass before he would become an adult, though his healing powers saved many. As the townsfolk began to go missing, he grew concerned, and he could not ignore the cry for help, even though it fell upon his deaf ears.
