[Game Thread] The Boar Hunt

Local Rancher has been pledged with a herd of wild boar that have been causing destruction on his ranch. Kill the pack of wild boars.
Reward: 10 gold per Boar
Requirements: Blade-Solo, Dagger solo or 2-3 man team

Tobias heads out of the guild hall before dawn. Keeping an Perception 14 and 17eye on his surroundings while travelling to the ranch Tobias Handle animal check to push, take 20sends Jesk to range around within line of sight and Survival check take 10 for 12, supplies food/water for 2 , half speed (60ft/2 = 30ft)supply breakfast.

Tobias spots a building on the ranch property that looks like a residence and follows the path/road to it. "Jesk Come! Heel!" he commands before arriving at the door. He steps up and knocks on the door. "Hello. I come from the Arciton Mercenary Guild in response to your wild boar problem."

Having left the city and started traveling to the area indicated, you find Jesk seems to be a little to excited about the trip to find any food. After several hours of travel and having left the main road, you finally come across a small farm. Having knocked on the door and announcing yourself, you are meet by a middle aged man with well tanned skin from working outside all day and who appears to be missing an eye. You say you're here about the boar problem. Good, then I will get straight to the point. They've become a nuisance to myself and all the other in the area. They are destroying fields, killing live stock and damaging buildings. We don't care what you do with them after you kill them, just bring proof of each one you kill.

"Understood. Any idea where they tend to come from?"

If Tobias is given any information about where they tend to come from he will check that out first, otherwise he will simply check any area he finds that would be suitable for wild boars. Jesk will be ordered to handle animal checks are both makeable without rolls outside of combat.follow and defend Tobias and Tobias will be ready for combat with his bow out.

Knowledge (nature) for knowing what to look for. Perception checks for finding it and noticing wild boar(s).

OOC Is there a reason for the survival check not getting food or is it simply that the trip wasn't long enough? My understanding is this check is valid for taking 10 which allows Jesk to provide food for up to 2 individuals.

The old farmer simply points to general direction and you are off on your way to locate these pesky boars. Traveling in the direction indicated you find you don't travel far from the farm when you start seeing obvious signs of damage to the surrounding area; trees scrapped up and pushed over, areas of ground all dug up, just destruction all over the place. Continuing along you make it to the top of a small hill the over looks a pond, around this pond is a number of boars moving about, some splashing around in the water, other resting and some seem to be fighting for dominance.

OOC No particular reason, I was simply having some fun, since it wasn't really that far of a journey. That and as you have carnivorous companions I don't imagine they would be leading you to any of the berry bushes but trying to hunt down a rabbit or something.

Spotting the boars, Tobias stops to take a closer look before moving closer and potentially being noticed. He scans the surrounding area looking for perception 27terrain features that could be used to channel, slow down, prevent escape, trap, etc. the boars and attempts to perception 29judge the distance to the boars.

He also quickly knowledge (nature) 8 , thankfully a 1 is not an automatic fail/mishap for skill checks but I still don't expect to get much from this check.considers all he knows about boars.

Rolls

Looking around the area, you don't really see any way to slow them if they start to run. The surrounding area is pretty open, with a small forested area behind them or if they so choice they can rush up the hill towards you. Judging the distance there seems to be a good amount of space between you and the boars, probably a good 200 feet. Thinking about what you know about boars, your mind seems to be a preoccupied with other thoughts but you do recall that boars are extremely aggressive animals.

Tobias shakes his head, 'this is probably a bad idea but what the hell. If I'm lucky I will be far enough away that they don't realize what is happening and I can pick several off before they react'.

Quietly he Free action to command animal companion to do a trick known. Handle animal high enough that the check cannot fail.commands Jesk. Jesk. Defend." He then draws and Rapid Shot: Attack 23 (critical confirmation 14) Damage 13 (critical 34) and Attack 8 Damage 14fires at the closest boar

OOC Please tell me that the first shot confirms. It would be nice to have such a good first attack of the campaign and to know that the BRACERS OF FALCON'S AIM where worth the cost.

Taking aim and firing you are able to take down one of the boars that was wading around in the lake, the kill was swift and instant preventing the others around from taking notice what happened.

OOC I had a hard time figuring out how to go about that so I decided a odds and even choice would leave it to the fates

Tobias smiles as he sees the boar drop dead in the water. 'I'll need to pull that out of the water to get proof but at least the others don't seem to have noticed.'

He then draws more arrows and Rapid Shot: Attack 12 Damage 8 and Attack 21 Damage 13fires at the next closest boar.

OOC Can you let me know the number of hits and misses so I can keep track and determine how much ammunition is recoverable at the end of fights? I'm guessing I have 1 miss from the first round. Also, how would you like to handle animal companions in combat? As a creature with <3 int they are technically under your control (from my understanding of the rules) but I am happy to do rolls and/or directly control them to save you extra book-keeping. I figure that when ordered to defend Tobias, Jesk would wait shortly in front of Tobias (10ft or so) and ready actions to charge anything noticeably hostile or anything that has been designated as an enemy that comes into range. This seems in line with animal intelligence and abilities. I did rolls for a readied charge attack just in case.

Your luck seems to holding out as one arrow misses a board and is now just floating around in the lake but the other arrow strikes a boar but doesn't kill it. This boar starts rolling around in the water as if trying to determine what happened. Several of the boars around it move away from it.

Tobias continues to fire arrows but in being prepared to change targets between shots he fails to shoot either shot with any accuracy.

Jesk remains ready to charge at any boar that approaches within range (~70ft of Tobias).

OOC Can we pretend that didn't happen . Two natural ones in a row, hopefully these are bad enough that the arrows don't get anywhere near the boars and therefore don't risk spooking them or alerting them to my presence. 4 missed arrows.

Having released the arrows you find that each release the string snaps your forearm pretty good. Unfortunately the arrows flew far enough to skip of some rocks and spooks a group of boars and they start a charge straight up the hill.

Seeing the group of boars approaching, Tobias shifts his attention to the new threat and shot 1: Attack 20 Damage 13 , Shot 2: Attack 8 Damage 7fires at the boar that is closest.

Jesk's readied Attack 6 Damage 3charge.

As the boars charge up the hill you see that they split some and only four of them continue up the hill towards you and Jesk. Firing your bow, you find that you take out the first one that you fire at, but your second shot misses any of the boars.
