[Game Thread] The Boar Hunt

While moving around collecting what arrows you can and tusk needed to collect the bounty, Jesk stands guard watching the woods and surrounding area. After a while of collecting tusk, Jesk suddenly seems to go on guard looking straight into the woods. Looking over into the woods you don't see what has Jesk worried but a large flock of birds take off from the surrounding wilderness, a rather ominous sign.

Seeing Jesk and the flock of birds Tobias grabs for his bow and +1 attack and damage if within 30ft

Standing by and at the ready, you allow your arrow to fly as soon as you notice something coming through the trees. With your arrow hitting the creature, it fully emerges from the woods and you see that it is a large dire boar.

Seeing the large dire boar Tobias decides he would be unlikely to get to a safe distance so he keeps firing at the boar and hopes that Jesk will be able to keep it distracted and away from him.

OOC For clarification, Tobias is using rapid shot and Jesk is guarding Tobias so he will attack the boar. I wasn't sure about whether Jesk had been in range to charge when the boar came out of the woods so I rolled for a full attack action. Ignore the second talon attack and the bite and add +2 to the to hit of the first talon for a readied action charge if Jesk could not charge previously and is therefore not in melee range. As both Tobias and Jesk had readied actions I rolled initiatives for both to determine who reacted quicker. Feel free to use or ignore at your discretion. All rolls can be found here.

Init Order Jesk Dire Boar Thobias

OOC What is Jesk info? HP, AC, attacks and what not. I don't see them listed on your sheet and I don't see a sheet for him?

OOC Jesk has a character sheet linked to my profile as well as a link in the notes section of Tobias' character sheet. Is there a reason that none of Jesk's actions from my previous post where used? Also can I get some information about distances between the boar and my characters?

OOC Can you add it to your char listing in the guild roster. His rolls were used, I just hadn't made the action post yet cause I needed his info to see if the boars attack hit him or not. Which you may want to double check Jesk hit points, by my calculations he should have 19. He is a lvl 1, which gives him 2hd and at a d8, that's 16 +3 from the constitution bonus.

Coming fully out of the woods, Jesk charges the larger than life boar and strikes it hard with its talons but misses his bite. The boar gores Jesk with one of its massive tusk in retaliation for its attack, leaving him badly injured and out of the fight.

Letting your arrows fly, the first one lands just a few feet in front of you but the other one flies straight and nails the dire boar dead on.

OOC I added a link for Jesk to my post in the roster thread. For Jesk's hit points I used the standard average results for all HD except I made a mistake in the calculation resulting in a lower value. From what you are saying here animal companions also get max hit points for the first 4 hit dice. Jesk should therefore have the following: 16 from max 2d8 + 2*conmod + 1 (favored class bonus of +1 hit point for animal companion) = 23 hit points. I appreciate you catching the hit point mistake. From the mechanics thread I see Jesk took 14 damage so he is now at 9/23. Not that it matters since I doubt I can beat the boar before it goes again and kills Jesk. I spent some time making a table of stats for Tobias and Jesk. I included the main information I thought of, let me know if you want anything else added. I'll try to make a point of adding this to future combat posts.

Jesk tears into the boar with both had 19 to hit and 5 damagetalons and goes in for a 5 to hit and 4 damagepoorly placed bite.

 

Tobias to hit 14 and 8 with damage 13 and 9 respectively.fires rapidly at the boar (+1 to hit and damage if within 30ft).

Having shoot two well placed arrows causing the monstrous dire boar to rear back on to its hind legs giving Jesk a clean shot at its throat. Taking the opening Jesk runs forward and digs his claws deep into the boars jugular causing a fountain of blood to gush forth and the monstrous beast to drop to the ground.

Observing the area you can see that the dire boar is indeed dead, a large gouge in its throat is allowing the blood the freely flow onto the ground. That was a hard fought battle but you have the trophies needed to claim the bounty, plus plenty of meat to sell or give to the guild cook, not to mention the hides.

collects as much useful and valuable materials (meat, hide, boar tusk, etc.) from the bodies as possible. That done he calls Jesk back to him and starts back to the farm to report in.

Having gone through you collected tusk from all of the slain boars, as those were needed to claim the bounty. The tusk from the dire boar proved to be a bit more difficult to remove, the meat and hides were a bit more difficult to harvest, perhaps its time to think of specialized tools for this type of job. All said and done, you realize that you have close to 300 lbs of meat.
